CD-R manufacturers to increase prices again

News about CD-R media price increments have appeared quite regulary during the last year or two. It seems that to the customer these price changes are again very unlikely to cause a price increments at the store shelfs, but on the other hand it seems that the prices haven't dropped either for quite some time. At least this seems to be the case here in Finland.

The proposed increase of CD-R disc prices is taking a more definite shape in Taiwan, as two second-tier disc companies said they will match moves by major disc makers to bump up prices in October.

Lead Data said it will adjust spot prices as early as next month, but intends to hold long-term contract prices for another three months. It did not give details about its new pricing plans, except to say they will be in line with those of first-tier competitors.

GigaStorage said it will raise prices by 10% in October.

Taiwan’s “big three” disc producers – Ritek, CMC Magnetics and Prodisc Technology – all announced plans this week to raise disc prices by 10-15% in October. The CD-R disc sector normally resets prices ahead of the seasonally strong fourth quarter.
