Ahead Software announces the Nero Digital codec
As we reported earlier, Ahead Software is about to release a MPEG-4 audio-video codec to the Nero product line. The codec is a competitor to Divx and other similar video compression solutions. Ahead has now gone public with the new product and here is their press release.

Ahead Software to preview complete MPEG-4 audio and video solution encompassing full ISO/14496-2/3 compatibility, and state of the art audio, High Efficiency AAC in MPEG (aacPlus).

Ahead Software, the makers of Nero, the technology leader in CD/DVD recording software, are set to preview at the forthcoming NAB exhibition, the most complete MPEG-4 audio and video compression technology available to date – Nero Digital.

Designed for optimum compatibility with the ISO/14496-2/3 MPEG-4 standard, the Nero Digital MP4 A/V codec’s will have the utmost quality video coding algorithms and full High Efficiency AAC in MPEG audio.

With DVD quality at only 20% of the space, Nero Digital video codec supports the most popular simple and advanced MPEG-4 visual profiles, and can decode DivX, Xvid, QuickTime, and other MPEG-4 implementations.

The Nero Digital audio codec is built on Ahead’s proven proficiency in AAC technology but goes much further with significant efficiency and quality enhancements. Now set to become a key core component of MPEG-4, High Efficiency AAC in MPEG audio, is an incomparable bandwidth extension technique allowing bit rates to be considerably reduced with no definable quality loss.

Nero Digital is the result of extensive co-development by Ahead Software and one of the World leaders in video and signal processing, Ateme of France. The audio/video codec will be available for download during Q2 2003 with turnkey solutions for Consumer Electronics manufacturers in the same time. More information will be released from the www.nerodigital.com and www.nerodigital.com/embedded web sites soon.

"It's great to see Nero Digital joining the growing amount of products that provide cutting-edge technology building on the interoperable, open standard MPEG-4 standard" said Rob Koenen, President of the MPEG-4 Industry forum.

"Nero Digital will be the World’s first complete end to end MPEG-4 solution to include MPEG-4 High Efficiency AAC profile", says Ivan Dimkovic, the MPEG-4 Project leader at Ahead Software. "With its unbeatable video and audio encoding power, we are confident that Nero Digital will be best positioned to become ‘the’ technology leader in the ever increasing MPEG-4 market"

The press release from Nero shows Ateme of France is heavily involved in this venture. I have decided to boycott all products from France, because of the attitude of France at the UN. You don't have to be on my side, but if you are my ally, at least act like it.

You're boycotting France why exactly? Because they don't want to mandate a war of aggression? A war, whose sole purpose would be to let the US citizens to fuel up their SUVs at a dime per gallon?

Hell - count me in the boycott!

Ketola...Just what is it you administrate. Information that suits your own agenda? Get with it man, we Americans have had to do it alone since the beginning of time. We don't mind doing it alone, but don't pretend you are on our side. Fakers are a dime a dozen. Stand up for what you believe in. How you could cuddle up with Hussein is beyond me. I wonder if you could possible call the culprits that hit our country with their sneak attach AGGRESSORS.

The fact remains that United States is the only nation that has fought dozens of wars, and not a single of them on their own soil. Who is to say who is right? Was destroying WTC buildings any worse than bombing Hiroshima and Nakasagi? Innocent civilians were the targets in both acts of terrorism. USA still posesses nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons. Should UN authorize other countries to act against USA, because there is a chance that the weapons might be used against another nation in the future?

How am I administrating information? All I am doing is telling my view -- just like you are. There's no need for you to agree on my views, just like I'm not agreeing with yours.

My original comment and still is...that I am boycotting all French products. You said France did not want to mandate a war, of course not they would lose too much with their dealings with Iraq. Don't you really think down deep in your heart that YOU are safe, when you know America has the nuclear power, or would you rather let honest and straight shooting Hussein promise you that he would never use his arsenal against his neighbors. Check the history, he has already done it in the Gulf War. Nagasaki and Hiroshima was necessary to end the war quickly. That was payback for Pearl Harbor's sneak attack. Some civilians who are told to leave before they get involved with the war, option to stay. War is a terrible thing, however people are always killed on both sides. That's the price you pay for engagement. We would use our arsenal against anyone in self-defense. You might not recognize it right at the moment, but you will be much safer yourself, when we eliminate Iraq's threat. That sand in Iraq has a lot of ostriches sticking the heads in it...don't join them...the real world is still above the sand.

I've always found most amusing the fact that virtually all of the recent conflicts that U.S. has had, have been caused by Ameicans themselves.

Obviously you did know that U.S.A. has funded, very knowingly and willingly and directly, the whole Al-Qa'ida organization during the Afghanistan war. He was trained by Americans and funded by Americans.

Exactly like Saddam Hussein -- Iraq and Saddam Hussein have been America's closest allies just after Israel ever since the late 1970's. Virtually all of Iraq's weapons are funded and in most cases, delivered by U.S. to balance power in the Gulf area against Iran -- which was considered to be a greater threat to West and therefor had to be balanced by supporting Iraq and Saddam Hussein (by American/Western funding he has managed to stay in power, without that his empire would've never existed as strongly as it does now). This only changed when Saddam Hussein miscalculated his support in States and invaded Kuwait -- this was a misjudgement, because U.S. doesn't want one entity to control too much oil production (Iraq has 2nd largest oil reserves in the world, just after Saudis -- by curbing combined Iraq/Kuwait oil production, Iraq would've been able to hike the oil prices dramatically and such complicating Western economies).

To be exactly, perfectly honest -- no one in the world gives a ***k about human rights in Iraq/etc, they only care oil. There are _FAR_ worse conflicts in Africa, Asia, etc -- no one even bothers to bring those issues to UN Security Council, not to mention do anything about those. Worst wars/human rights abusements have been going on since 1960's without any western country doing anything about those -- they happen in countries where there's no oil, no gold and no diamonds.

    Just my €0.02...

Let's see what happens in Iraq in the next few days, then you can rewrite history again to meet your needs. After we take Iraq, maybe we should keep the oil for ourselves and sell it to the nations that are our allies. We don't need oil here in America, we have an ample supply from our neighbors to the south and north, in addition to what we have stored underground. Remember to the victor go the spoils......we don't have to share it!

    Rodgers,

Glad to hear you're finally acknowledging that the Iraq-issue is about invasion, and nothing else. It's sad, though, that you feel that it is the USA's God given right to invade an independent nation at a whim.

You twist words so well you should Administrate for the UN. Reread what has been said. Please take particular note that it was our country that was invaded on 9/11. Also take note of what happens in the Mid-East in the next several days. You are ungrateful for what America has done for you.

    Geez..

    To invade
    Pronunciation: in-'vAd
1 : to enter for conquest or plunder
    2 : to encroach upon : INFRINGE
3 a : to spread over or into as if invading : PERMEATE <doubts invade his mind> b : to affect injuriously and progressively <gangrene invades healthy tissue>
    synonym see TRESPASS

So.. Is USA still invaded? By whom? This is quite a pointless debate, since you clearly do not comprehend what is being discussed.

Ketola, you still have your head in the Iraqi sand don't you. Tune in tonight 8pm Eastern Standard Time here in America (you have not divulged yet, as to where your homeland is), so I don't know what time you will be able to hear the words of our President. It should be an interesting ultimatum. You say I don't comprehend what you are saying. I do understand what your are saying, but like the French, I don't know the why. Our discussion is not going anywhere and probably is not good for the forum. If you want to debate further, you can reach me at camera1@nycap.rr.com.
