Synapse - an artifially intelligent MP3 player

Just when you thought that everything has been seen in the MP3 player software, something very innovative comes up.

The Brain is our ground-breaking intelligence module. It's not a playlist. It's not random shuffle. It's the way you listen to music. The Brain knows what you want and how you want it. It knows when you want it and it's going to give it to you. You've got to hear this.

Synapse MP3 player builds a database of your MP3 listening behaviour. The database is built and updated on the background as you listen to music. And the catch here is that in the Brain playback mode the Synapse aims to play the music the way you want - the music you want to hear.

The concept is quite unique, but so far it is hard to tell how intelligent the Synapse Brain actually is. There isn’t much information on the webpage either, only lame marketing slogans one after another. I have tried the software for few hours and so far it has been building a chart of the songs I have played the most. On the webpage they say that a one week of active MP3 listening is needed for the Brain to learn the habits of the user.

The player software is a bit sluggish and quite bloated too. But on the webpage you can also download a Brain plugin for WinAmp (XMMS plugin is promised soon), which seems to work quite well.

In my opinion their concept is quite cool and worth a try. Both the player software and WinAmp plugin are available for free on the their webpage.
