HE AAC decoder source code released as open source
The HE AAC (High Efficiency) AAC audio compression provides huge sound quality improvements for low bitrate applications, for example to be used in portable players. With HE AAC one can achieve pleasant sound quality with extremely low bitrates (<96kbps).

The first HE AAC encoder is included with the Nero 6 retail version, by Ahead Software. Today Audiocoding.com has released the source code of a HE AAC capable decoder, and it is likely that HE AAC enabled audio players will emerge soon.

    Audiocoding has also released a Winamp2 plugin for the playback of HE AAC encoded MP4 files ;-)

    Actually, Audiocoding doesn't release binaries. That binary was released by RareWares. :)

    You can also get command line decoders for both Windows and MacOS X at RareWares:
