Aussies oppose the MOD-chip ban

Aussies oppose the MOD-chip ban
Well, who wouldn’t? Earlier this week Sony won their court ruling appeal against the court’s decision to allow MOD-chips and similar methods that used to bypass protections of console games. This makes MOD-chips illegal in Australia.
However, yesterday, the Federal Court upheld Sony's appeal against the decision, and ordered that the company be awarded legal costs. The chips are now illegal. The decision comes as a blow to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), which intervened in the orginal case to argue in favour of upholding the chips' legality.

Now however, the The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has raised it’s voice against the recent court ruling.
The ACCC believes region coding is detrimental to consumers as it severely limits their choice and, in some cases, access to competitively priced goods," said the new ACCC chairman, Graeme Samuel. "The ACCC is disappointed that technology which can overcome these unfair restrictions will not be generally available for consumers' use.
Actually the region coding is not the worst feature of game console original games. The expensive game discs receive heavy usage, lot of swapping in and out from the device possibly in daily basis. And many of the console gamers are small kids, often carelessly handling the valuable discs. The consumers should have their fundamental right to make a backup in order to protect their property.

What the hell?! Just because some people use this as a chance to play pirate games DOES NOT mean it can be ****ing banned! I have broken 5 PS2 backup discs before and was really glad that it was a backup. I mean these originals cost around 45 pounds in England! Either Sony makes their games cheaper by at least 20 pounds, or they allow Modchips! That is totally ****ing unfair!

When you are on your deathbed, you will wonder, "Did I waste my life? Was it worth spending all that time on that?" Do not despair, no one has wasted their life. After all, you can only waste something if you throw it away. And you can't throw life away.

It's just another one of those stupid things in the world that doesn't make any sense at all. in america, at the age of 18 you can get married, have kids, and go to war and die for your country but you cant go in to a bar or drink alcohol until you are 21. it just makes no sense at all. just because you CAN use a mod chip for illegal purposes, doesn't mean the people that want them for legitimate reason should suffer. hell you can go buy a high powered rifle for hunting at the local department store with no problems, how do they know you actually aren't going to use it to go kill someone? it's just all a crock of crap and as long as they do what they are doing, we'll keep finding ways of doing what we are doing. never forget that alot of the guys that come up with these protection schemes are also guys just like us who beat them. it's the whole "cops and robbers" game, it will never go away.

A thought for all these companies: A comsumer with a scratched or damaged game (even movies)should be given a replacement by the company by sending in the damaged copy. If these companies really want to dampen or stop pir8ing, they got to introduce policies that are more consumer friendly. I have lost games to just one accident.

DiscoStew thinks this is againgst our rights to protect our investments. DiscoStew says" if im not aloud (as a consumer) to protect my investment, then what rights do i have when buying any product at all?
well we have insurance ...BUT..(A game is not coverd by insurance unless it is store stock.)
but what if the your PS2's cd drive scratches the game. (A product that is made only for another shouldn't be damaged when used) .............As soon as we open that clear plastic wrap we loose.
    its a sony

Also they want to drived down the costs of marketing. I don't give a ****. I wan't my privacy. HAVE YOU HEARD OF THE TOTAL INFORMATION AWARENESS PROGRAM?
