Real to launch Rhapsody in Europe next year
RealNetworks announced that it is planning to launch its digital music store, Rhapsody, in Europe during the second quarter of year 2004.

Currently, legal European digital music scene is rather empty, only major player in the arena is Peter Gabriel's OD2, but according to industry rumours, most of the major players, including Apple and Roxio, are in talks with record labels in order to launch their services in Europe next year.

According to Real's spokeswoman, company plans to follow its subscription-plus-fee-per-song pricing method that it uses in States, in Europe as well.

I live in the states and I subscribe to Rhapsody and love the service. I’ve found lots of great bands like The Ramones, Love & Rockets, Bauhaus, Eve 6, Stained, Our Lady Peace, New Order, Collective Soul, Electric Light Orchestra, RUSH and more classic Rock and Alternative Rock and Grunge. Rhapsody offers the entire album to listen to at a mere $10 per month. If you want to burn you pay .79 per song (if you don’t have a stream capture program). I don’t like what the RIAA has done but this service is great and you have to consider that an awesome attempt since legal on line services have not been out that long.
