UK music sales up -- both online and offline
Both the music download sales and CD sales are on the rise in the UK. Especially the number of online sales has boosted after the launch of Napster and iTunes in May and June respectively.

During the first five months of 2004 500,000 songs were purchased online in the UK. The figure has now risen to over two million, according to the quarterly review published today by the BPI, British record industry's trade association. That means a whopping 400% increase in the monthly sales rate.

The sales of music in other formats have also increased. The total value of the sales has increased from £1.18bn (from June 2002 to June 2003) to £1,22bn (June 2003 - June 2004). That's an overall increase of 3.0%. The largest increase has been in the sales of music videos, whose sales increased by almost 70%.

Peer-to-peer piracy doesn't seem to be hurting the British music industry too much.
