Daemon Tools v4.00 released

Daemon Tools v4.00 released
Yesterday the popular Daemon Tools software was updated to v4.00. This excellent free software allows users to mount CD images onto virtual drives and also supports emulation of most popular copy protections. This version has also included Adware called "Daemon Tools SearchBar", to help fund the project. However you are given the option to not install the Adware during installation, but do install it if you would like to contribute to the project. Here's the changelog...

  • Complete redesign from scratch
  • Support of 4 virtual drives
  • ONLY X32-supported now. X64 will follow
  • Drivername randomly generated on each machine (not finished yet)
  • Drive-vendor and versionnumber randomly generated
  • Complete new emulation architecture
  • DCP (DaemonCodeProtect) to make analyses harder and increase development time for malicious anti-DT tools
  • Digital signature verification of applications who are trusted to access DT in secure mode
  • AutoInsertNotification fully implemented (can be turned on/off at ControlPanel)
  • Dropped: MS-Installer, DT now use modificated NullsoftInstaller
  • Dropped: analog sound support (as Windows 2000 and above do not need this feature)
  • Supports all popular copyprotections

You can download Daemon Tools 4.00 from: https://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/daemon_tools.cfm

this post has nothing to do with afterdawn,it was just for info..

Daemon Tools 4.00 released with many changes

Posted by Dan Bell on 15 November 2005 - 16:38 - Source: Daemon Tools

msanto, Shoebedobedoo, oliwan and captqbec all used our news submit to tell us that Daemon Tools has released the next version of this very popular utility. You may experience a bit of trouble accessing the site as it seems to be overloaded at the moment due to this new release. In the meantime, you can read the notes and change log below.

In case you don't know about Daemon Tools yet, the software provides a virtual CD/DVD-ROM on your computer with which you can directly mount image files created by various other software packages. Daemon Tools can also emulate many popular copy protections so that you can always play your back-ups, even when your drive normally cannot copy the protection.

    Notes regarding the 4.0 release:

    Dear DT-Community,

Today, we release the new V4.00. As we already heard from our customers, it fixes indeed most or even all blacklists - however, it is STILL a SCSI-Emulator, therefore it"s still necessary to remove present IDE-Drives! As nearly all protections now block ALL SCSI-Drives, no matter if REAL or VIRTUAL, you need to DISABLE your ide-drives!

This version is more or less only a "next step", it does NOT contain an IDE-Jammer atm. However, we are working on it and will hopefully have it ready soon. So be warned - do NOT complain about the "lack" of the IDE-Jammer-Device. We release it now, as is. It fullfilles its job as long as no IDE is present in System or you otherwise block that IDE-nodes. After all it"s STILL free!

Another important change is the integration of ADWARE. Yes, we need that revenues. However, we decided to let YOU choose to run it with ADWARE and support us - or simple turn it OFF in installation-process and run it same way as former versions - without ADWARE. By default, it is turned ON - to not install that ADWARE, please UNCHECK at installation "DAEMON TOOLS SEARCHBAR" (or you can remove it anytime later when you wish via "Control Panel"-> "Add/Remove programs") We leave that decision to you, so please don"t blame us that we did it that way. It was a compromise to continue the free support - we would much appreciate it if you install that ADWARE-stuff.

We set- up a special forum so please post in THAT forum only about questions, concerns or anything else that is related to that ADWARE. The forum"s name is "DAEMON Tools Searchbar".

To sum it up:- NO IDE-Jammer atm - we are working on it! No ETA for it - it"s done when it"s done! - ADWARE INCLUDED - you can, however, UNCHECK that ADWARE at installation!

    The changelog for V4:

    * Complete redesign from scratch support of 4 virtual drives ONLY X32-supported now.
    * X64 will follow Drivername randomly generated on each machine (not finished yet)
    * Drive-vendor and version number randomly generated
    * Complete new emulation architecture DCP (DaemonCodeProtect) to make analyses harder and increase development time for malicious anti-DT tools
    * Digital signature verification of applications who are trusted to access DT in secure mode
    * AutoInsertNotification fully implemented (can be turned on/off at ControlPanel)

    Dropped:

    * MS-Installer, DT now use modificated NullsoftInstaller
    * Analog sound support (as Windows 2000 and above do not need this feature) supports all popular copy protections

Again: This version is an "in between" step to fix latest issues not only with protections but also many other issues and installation-problems. We work hard to release soon next update!

You can visit this link to choose between two different servers for the download. They are both slow of course at the moment.

Truly, with all due respect, I think banners on the main page would be a better way to generate revenue. I really dislike something I love packaging adware. I really do not believe anyone is going to install it.

No offense, but I'm certainly NOT going to.

I agree about the Adware. I certainly won't be installing it! I mean, who in their rigth mind is going to be like "Gee...something to infect my computer, do god knows what, track me like some wild animal, possibly slow my system down, AND force me to get pop-ups/unders or whatever...."

To the DT crew: Bad move, but thanks for making it voluntary!

Personally I'd prefer to paypal you a couple bucks for the program. While perhaps many people wouldn't donate, or even pay $5 for a good program (preferring to steal it via crack) I do believe that enouigh people would do the right thing and you'd make your desired amount of money.

Besides, for what I use DT for I really don't need an upgrade and just the fact that there is adware involved (and set to default install) I'll avoid it till I need it.

    Just to summarize:

    1) have a donation request
    2) require a $5 or so purchase
    3) put Ads on your site
    4) just say no to adware/spyware (even if 'voluntary')
    5) So if the revenues are satisfactory with voluntary adware is the next step to FORCE it on your customers and install it covertly?

I am a greatly saddened pain licensed user of Damemon tools.

I was until I Had to remove Daemon Tools from my PC, because the once fast, reliable product that I happily paid my licensing fees, was aborting and causing lots of problems that I do not have time for .

I have to use other products that I have, legally licensed products, because programmers should be able to support their families, that are slower and not as effective as Daemon Tools USED to be.
Of course I never user Microsoft of Apple products who are part of the monopolistic anti-American and anti-technology and anti-World and just want control.

I hope that someday I can use Daemon Tools again and I haven't a clue why the decision to limit its usage so dramatically was made when version 4 came out.

    Thanks,

    Jon

What a bunch of crying beotches. Do i understand why the crying beotches are crying? Of course i do. I also understand that for the few minutes to a few hours worst case this can cause your crying asses, these guys have put in a few months to a few years! working on this program for free. Now they look for a creative way to bring in some cash without directly charging there customers and your all over em like stink on you know what.

Am i biased, not in the slightest. Actually my rig will not work within the contsraints of the current version, so i will wait for the next patch from my "free" source. To those that have already been using it, and now are having problems. Get over it, you go thru exactly the same headaches with the software you pay top dollar for.

Well i guess i better end this by screaming bloody murder as now im going to go uninstall it, because i was to stupid to read up on it before i installed it. Damn, another re-start i guess. How will i ever survive.

P.S. Had my aniti vir and anti spam/trojan going and not one bell or whistle sounded when i installed. Of course, i did uncheck the toolbar box as soon as i saw it...........

Well I do not know what every one is crying for, this is in all a great peace of free software, so quit your griping did any of you think that this is honey roses & wine, well get over it, it is free, just look at what we really pay for MS BS and that you do not complain a bought, most of the spy ware is do MS holes and the software that comes out looking like DAEMON, when DAEMON is just the competition with out over charging or like DAEMON free software that does a better job, and ass far zemantec you pay it that has as many holes as MS and if your not on there preferent list than it is marked off as spam worm or spyware, so there get real get a real antivirus like from CA that means Computer Associates, you pick what you need virus by it self or virus&firewall or suite it is your system but do not blame the people that make the software they are just trying to make a living, and as far as the installation, just do a custom install, if you do not want ad ware not, that is all, and as far as removing it do not depend on MS black hole to get you out of it, it was never made to do that if any thing MS keeps track of any thing that you install no matter what it is, just look at the new patches, for this past 2 years RIAA&MIAA have been pushing for new suckers, well MS is helping then out. With tracking software in the media player and there new security patches, all of that info is being share and guess what, we are the lemurs, and the fall is greater than you think so be wherry. I am using XP PRO Sp 2 and CA protection and the and way set it up, it even blocks most of MS spyware and tracking bits, so it does not make me look like a fool any more , so be very well inform on what you download & what you install, it is your PC, it is not the software makers responsibility to keep it running, they never intended for any of the OS to run wright just that it would look like it did, if you think that I am full of it, just look at the past, just when 95 running fine, here can 98 then when you where almost done, it is XP, well look it here! it's long horn nono it is vista it started having all of this things that they promised sense NT can out, and look it is 5 generations later and we are still waiting for that so call security, just more hot wind from bill, bill has more bellows then Holland has windmills. So what is it all abought? well it will never be right, leave with it, learn, ask, and read before you do any thing. That is my 2 cents.
PS: try this support then, register. it shall get better.
