GTA must be banned to protect Prostitutes

No, you did not misread the headline, and I did not make a mistake. There is yet another group that has joined the list of the enemies of the Take-Two's Grand Theft Auto games. The Sex Workers Outreach Project USA (SWOP) says that Grand Theft Auto games "accrues points to players for the depiction of rape and murder of prostitutes." The group is reaching out the educate parents of the dangers violent video games pose to their children. They say they are doing this "as concerned parents themselves".

The group did say that it is "adamantly opposed to any and all forms of censorship," but it is "opposed to the depiction of the rape and murder of prostitutes." According to its Web site, SWOP USA is an organization dedicated to improving the lives of sex industry workers and the promotion of a safe working environment for the industry. So a group concerned about prostitutes wants to warn parents about the influence GTA may have on their children.

im pretty sure that by now parents have a damn clear picture of what this game is about, and what is in it. it only been out for half a frikkin year!! there cant be a single parent or child out there in the world who doesnt know about this goddamn game! if it aint headlines on 'hot coffee', or that damn Jack Thompson and his multitude of lawsuits against take 2, its a bloody prostitute protection agency looking out for childrens interests by educating parents on how the game permits the killing of hookers!!

Mike3 i agree with you. They are not banning R-rated moveis or adult only movies. It is the parents responsibility to monitor what their kids play. The games have ratings on the box just like movies do. They need to stop trying to put blame on others when they should be looking at themeselves if they get their children a game and then dont approve of it.

For those of you who may have seen the movie "HOSTEL".
There was a couple in the movie theater with their daughter who had to be about 6 or 7. But then they want to blame others for their responsibilities. No way a child need to see that movie at that age.

This is just silly. I agree with the that parents and the like just try to blame others. The reason there are ratings is so that parents know what they are buying. Most think that just because it is a game, it is just kids stuff. Oh well. Granted I haven't finished the game, but I don't ever remember this being a part of it. If they are saying having sex with a prostitute is rape, though, that's ridiculous. Its not like the game is biased against prostitutes, It has a fair and even amount of murder of all the races, stereotypes, lifestyles and professions.
On another note, if your job is to stand up for the rights of prostitutes (an illegal profession almost everywhere in the US) you should really ask yourself: Is there what my mom would have wanted me to do with my life?

What SWOP means by rape in GTA is that prostitutes who offer their services, conditionally offer their consent to have sex on grounds of payment thereafter.

Basically, you pay her money, she agrees to have sex with you, that's not rape.

If you pay her money for sex, and then casually decide to steal back your money under her nose like its done in GTA, that is considered as rape by prostitutes standards.

By societal standards, this doesn't make any sense.

Get the facts right, I only brought up explaining why they can't play a game based on the rating, and just the game. I didn't talk about any other restrictions, such as how long they can play. Had you have read my other posts, you could infer that I would never put the blame on any company, and I would do what I could to make sure that game doesn't get into my childs hands until he/she is an adult. I think you and I can agree, that a lot of religous people accept the science of, for instance, reverse psychology to further impose their views onto the open-minded.
