60GB PS3 + three games equals over $1,000

European online retailer Play.com has listed a bundle of 60GB PlayStation 3 on the Internet, consisting three games it has been priced �549 ($1,019), excluding taxes or shipping. However, most of the gaming products are cheaper in the US, and the PS3 was originally announced to launch for 599 euros or 425 pound in Europe, which translate to $758 and $799, while the console was announced to retail for $599 in the US.

The games included in the bundle are SingStar, Warhawk and Formula One 06. Presuming that the �425 PS3 price is correct, the three games will sell out for �124 ($229) or around �41 ($75) each. But don't just yet go wrapping up your christmas presents, Play.com doesn't promise delivery before Christmas.

This surely isn't all we're going to hear from expensive bundles. The upcoming launch of PS3 and Nintendo's Wii will encourage retailers gathering one another crazier bundles.

Seeing how u are new to aD and havent seen the amount of flaming and bashing that has been going on in the next gen console forums i wont say a word. I have never seen as many suspenisons as there have been recently. Also, these opinions are not "ill-informed" The ps3 is going to retail for $599, correct? BluRay techonoly is going to make games cost at least $60 (this is the price of 360 games, which are dvd) At best, you will pay $780 before tax, based on the games being priced at $60 in a best case scenario. After tax, where i live, this equals $839. So, how is this "ill-informed." Seems like its based on factual data to me.

Because it's not the $839 that people on this thread are complaining about, it's the $1000+ being charged by Play.com, yet people are acting like Sony is responsible for this gouging. That is most certainly ill-informed.

If you think $599 for the console and $60 for games is too much is unreasonable, that's fine, but that's not what's being discussed here. Perhaps there are reasons to be upset with Sony, but retailers deciding to overcharge for their products isn't one. The misdirected anger is ill-informed.

Last year I bought an X BOX 360 at Bj's Wholesale club for $397. I did not open it and decided to sell it around Christmast thinking I would make about $200 profit. When I went to but it up for a big I looked at the average cost they are selling for. That cost was $1,050. I decided to use the buy it now feature and posted it for $1,150 with $50 shipping. Less than 24 hours the X BOX was sold. So when someone states that people are not ready to pay this much for a console they are wrong. There were 26,000 X box 360s on ebay and they were all selling for over 1k.

I think play.com needs to shake their heads, no one I know will be purchasing from them. Even still the price of the ps3 is too steep for me, especially after the problems I had with my ps2. I'm waiting for a drop in price and to see what bugs this system has before handing over my live savings for a new system. Besides I just had to replace my ps2 with a ps2 slim last christmas, it's to soon for me but that's just my opinion, so don't everyone get all excited now. I'm also hoping for some more female friendly games due to the fact that being a female I'm kinda sick of havin' to be a male character running around killin' things and ppl, Come on game makers where's the games like perfect Dark for sony please please I'm holding my breath.

As for the PS3, movies here in Canada (blue ray) are already being sold for 54$ with a reduction of 8$ at best buy, so that's 46$ + 7%+7.5% tax= to roughly 53 dollars. For a movie!!!

Now the PS3, is 649$ for the 100 gig plus the bundle included with it, plus 14.5% tax= 743.11$ just for the damned console here in Montreal, Quebec. You add three games with the PS3, let's assume they are 60$ each, with tax its 68.70$, multiply that by 3= 206.11$.

Now, let's calculate the cost for both the PS3 and the 3 games:

743.11 + 206.11= 949,21$ (Now that's assuming the cost of the games is 60$ each, which I doubt it is since I see Xbox 360 games at 79.99$)

I think the real cost of the games here are 91.59$ if they are being sold at 79.99 + tax, therefore, 91.59 x 3=274.77$

743.11 +274.77= 1017.88$

Hence, the price does exceed a 1000$ easily, because upon release, games will certainly not sell less than 79.99 or 69.99$.

I dont think the game will be 60 bucks. A blank Blu-ray disk is 25 bucks. Lets say the game develops get a discount by buying them in bulk so 15-20 just for the media. Then you have to factor in that most companies besides EA have to actually go to publisher to release the game. Then there marketing shipping taxes Sony cut for using the Blu-ray format how is this a valuable option for game developers. I know all the systems sold at a lost beside the cube, but that was made up though software. If the software department is also bleeding money isnt this a problem? They would have to sell game starting at 75 bucks to make a profit?

I think what Sony implied by next generation, is that all dimensions of its product would be different, including ridiculously priced items.

Its too expensive and pointless to buy on the release, unless you have a spare grand lying around, and you've bought everything else.

I hear that, to this day i make a point to play FF 2 and 3 as well as chrono trigger every year. Those are examples of how games should be. I would much rather pay $80 bucks for a game with a great story and is memorable instead of on a game that is eye candy, ehich is the case with most next gen games.

FFX was too linear, half the fun of all the others was wandering around and finding secret stuff, like in 7. X-2 i didnt even get a chance, i just got the feeling my 12 yr old sister would like that game more than me. Like I said in my previous post, Dragon Quest is awesome, the guy behind the animation on DBZ lent his talent to the game, looks beautiful, is long (60-80 hours), is in my opinion, is the best RPG released in a while (Until FFXII comes out:p)

Okay so let's try to settle the debut on the pricing of games. Let's jump back to the release of the PS2 does everyone remember the price of the console and games? (honestly I don't remember the price was to high for me to even look at during that time) Anyway let's face facts we are looking at that lovely term supply and demand. As long as ppl are willing to pay it the price will be as high as they can get. I for one don't blame sony or any of those suppliers for trying to get the biggest buck, I myself would do the same if I could. My only complaint is that I won't be able to purchase one anytime soon. As for Deedee's comment about canadian prices it may not be beneficial to you but it is to me and other canadians. I never consitered the fact that canada would be around the same price as play.com, so good on ya for pointing it out hot ice. However if I come across $1000 that I can waste away I would definatly waste it on a PS3 but I still want a GTA game with the opition to be female, I love games and I suck at lara croft so I need something else.

@zippy I too have been playing legaia 2 I'm at the point where I have found the other female character and I'm finding the wondering around in the sew/ ruin whatever you call it lol very boring. This is now the second time I've played it. The first time I got the last charater and quit playing it from boredom they I got interested in playing it again but ended up starting over cuz I couldn't remember what I was suppose to do. Is there ever a point when you don't wonder around hoping you know where your going? As for the new Lara Croft I will have to check it out thanks for letting me know. I had a hard time with the controls not so much the game play. Anyone else play the GTA series, if so I just want to say I'm disappointed in liberty stories it's basically GTA: 3, I really don't like that you can't swim or climb over walls. I was hoping it would be like San Andreas with a few more perks like being able to climb ladders and so on.

To my recollection, there are female oriented games, like Bloodrayne, Tomb Raider, Champions of Norrath, Baldur's Gate, etc.

Could not find the rental of Zone of the Enders 2, Onimusha 1-4 is amazing, wild arms gross, xenosaga only played the second one frustrating, etc.

Well I can't wait to see how much the PS3 will go for after 1 year or 2.

I don't know, but lately, my PS2 has become sluggish, the dvd drive when you open it, struggles in its way out, as though its become rusty, and when I try to play backups, you hear the laser going crazy at times. I wouldn't be surprised if my PS2 dies out towards the end of this year, hopefully by then I will have played superman returns, disgaea 2, and God of War 2. The only 3 titles that have some promise left in the old PS2.

The PS3, if I purchase it, ya right, will replace my ailing PS2 console, but at projected prices of 600$ +, I doubt I will buying one anytime soon.

Hopefully, I can repair my PS2, I will try to check out what the prices are...

Yes the PS3 is going to be expensive at first (like every other system at launch). Just think of it as a cheap blueray player. Ive read elsewhere they sony is designing the ps3 so that consumers can go out and buy a regular hard drive and replace the one that comes with, so just buy the 40gig package and save some dough.

What little missing things? I was not aware of a major differance other than the hard drives. Yes $700.00 is alot of dough but so is $400 Remeber when the original PSX and Saturn were released? That was alot of money back then. The thing is we all know that after a year the PS3 will drop in price but in order to get to that point the damn thing has to sell. Also does anyone else think that that pricetag may be a feint? Selling your product for almost twice as your competitor is insanely stupid. So I think the price will suddenly drop at launch time. Your tray sticking means it needs to be greased (white lithium) as far as the laser i dont know. My old ps3 like to get so close to the cd games that it would leave perfectly round scratches. Lasers dont cost to much though

By the time you upgrade the HD,the Wi fi thats 100 right there ,I dont realy know what all the Multi card reader is for,blue tooth is wi fi however knowing them they will try and make it seprate,also theres a obsucre DVD rule(?) that might make New format moives unpalyable on the low end PS3 becuse it lacks DRM High def outputs where the moive HAS to confrim HD output altho most think it wil just downgrade the stream to non HD.

When teh PS2 ethernet adapter came out it was close to 60 or 70 these little add ons that are 20-30for the comp will be nearly twice the price for the PS3 plus other small things sony is not saying just elad me to the ieda the low end is bad....just save yourself the trouble and get the 600 one!

I've tried the PS2 on a backup of Champions of Norrath, works quite fine, it must've been having a hard time with Grandia 3...So the only real problem, is greasing the tray, but where do i get the white lithium as suggested?

Honestly, I hope my PS2 sticks in there, just long enough, for me to play Superman Returns, Justice League and God of War 2. That's it after those titles come out for my PS2.

As far as the PS3 goes, wasn't there a 100 gb bundle pack?

It depends on the copy and the Media its on some run ok some run funny,if tis a copy try useing Nero on the losest speed,altho Alcohol 120% can do a better job soemtimes.

Is also if its the real thing is it a DVD9 game? funky DVD9 reading is a sign the lens is running out of time.

its a pain to run no cracks that I know of I got both to run,but I ahd to remove all the CD/DVD emluation stuff I had AND then get game jack whitch was a newer CD/DVD emlaution that is not black listed in the game.Game jack has the abilty to run some/most protected games even if the ISO dosent have the protrection info on it.

Hot_Ice You can get the white lithium grease at an autoparts store (autozone, oreallys ect) just shake realy well and spray the grease ONTO A CUETIP NOT IN THE PS2 (sorry, but some people dont think) then just rub it up real good but not dripping wet also put a little on the poless the laser rides along will probaly help. Also clean the fan those burn out easy on the old PS2s

Sacred(sacred underworld is the expation I beleive) in many respects its like Diablo 2 the engine is alot diffrent it uses a 3D engine for charatcers and soem objects and a 2d engine for the fleid and houses and such,the only real downside to it is your magic/abilties are item drops like in diablo 1 and its very random,your skils you can put exp into but the gained abilties (and lvl up to thos abilites) are found thru item drops and rarely is a abilty the same palce twice.
In all its a point or 2 less than diablo 2.

The newer DBZ's are still pretty simplisticcompared to Soul Caliber and Tekken, but for a true fan, they are great. The combos are generic as hell, but being able to fusion and have projectile battle is awesome. I recommend Budokai 3, i still play it regularly, its great. I would love a true BDZ RPG, not that bs Sagas that was released a while back, although i did beat it lol.

I ahve watched the Series at elast 3 times in 2 years just finished it again its a great show filled with contrasts,when it coems to gameing like anime story OR gamepaly must be there.
I hate medicore games that try to be mroe than medicore like any resent FF game (I cant say that about 12 not palyed it yet) however when a games story surpasses most other games and the gamepaly of it is only slighty annoying like Vagrant Story (limited storage,limited weapons building,phantom points to incress attack and entropy poits to degrade it cripple the weapon,hidden magic to find I belive you hve to be hit by it and magic useing monsters are rare 0-o) it adds up but only knocks acouple points from a 10.

Were as soemthing like FFX starts at a 10 then deregadeds into a 4 or 6 0-o

Vagrant Story was very cool just a pain to play. I dont think i finished the Iron Maiden or whatever the bonus dungeon was. Heard that they did a second one never seen it though. FFX had a great story unfornutately the game play was too simplistic and taking away the exploration element kinda sucked but the story was its saving grace.

Theres a vandle hearts 2 but no Vagrant Story 2,frankly it took me 2 hours to desided the Phantom and entropy point system was BS thus I gamesharked it away that made the game I dunno...more fun,altho the same basic thing applyed to the rest of it I dint care for the weapons custizeing to one class of moster the more you used it...liek fighting zombies with a nice little knife and gettign my arse handed to by soem humans when I got out of the seswers.....that was not good..but haveing max PP helped enough to make the game somewhat fun.
And to think the gay that did it and FFT another great story annoying gamepaly game is makeing FF12...... will the horror ever end? *L*

I love FFT actualy but i do hate the level system and the fact that no matter if i was levell 99+ the monsters were just as strong that sucks. Kingdom Hearts 1 is a rather good game just takes a while for the story to get interesting. KI2 is just a rehash. Guess ya just have to think of it as the midway point. For instance LOT The 2 Tow wasnt that great (except for the battle at helmsdeep) but it served its purpose and moved the story along. I was looking at my finances recently, and 600$+ on the PS3 alone, translates into a lot of money at the end of the month, if you are tight on money as I am it seems.

I just don't think this expenditure fits with my current budget, and I will have to wait 2 years it seems before considering purchasing.

Maybe by then, it will cost 299.99$, but at current prices, I certainly doubt that.

Think the last game I really liked was God of War, or Star Ocean: Till The End of Time. Like you said, its rare, but ince in a while, developers get it right.

GOW is good I wish Onimusha and DMC would learn from the gamepaly but it seems the devs would rather ignore whats right in other games and focus on thier personaly made "invoations" ......*sigh*
Not palyed SO TTEOT,I didnt like SO 2 it wouldnt let you controll other party members...I jsut couldnt take it.... *L*

I palyed tales of desnity 1 liked it,Played what they called TOD2 in the states it was ok..not sure about the newer ones,I know for a fact tho I want to get Y's and Phansty Star generations when ever they bring it over...

havent played starocean yet. God of War was great up untill the point that it pissed me off so much that I threw my controller to the floor breaking it. Hmm just popped KF into my PS2 it The Ancient City lol isnt that like #3? i wrote 5 on the disc because that is what the title was in the torrent. I do most definately have Wizardy 5.

Yeah when i type Kings Field 5 into google it comes up with Kings Field the Ancient City. Wow Eternal Ring was one of the first PS2 games I bought ($10 thankfully) and it sucked bad, a whole new spectrum of sucking, it was like a rainbow...

ya legaia 2 sad to say is a system test of a game for the most part it looks great for a frist gen PS2 game the codeing I question (some equiped items act like a crused item and wont let you up your defence with items or spells)

SUmmoner is not "bad" it has its bright spots...I always liked the odd US made RPGs liek it and Adina Chroncils on the N64 sure they ar e unpollished and have issues but they are nto a compelte waste like FFX2 *L*

I realy wish theyed make a good Z.O.E streadgy game that one on the GBA was near perfect great story and good gamepaly the only downside to the game was no splash/radius damage.

ZOE 1 on the PS2 was ok at best a simple action/rpg thing to bad they cant mix action/rpg and streadgy togather make it where you can pause the live action in order to figure out who to atttack or it enime that are close togather need to be bombed and such.

I never got around to ZOE always looked cool but stuff like robotech or gundam or some horrible game of that vibe put me off for a while. Always thought mechwarrior for SNES was the shit. Summoner i just couldnt stomach wasnt bad but wasnt playworthy to me Im sad to say that i finished FFX-2 hoping that at some point it would redeem itself now you can understand why I shudder when i see it.

Well wasnt gonna justify the fanboy with a repsonse but what the hell well call it peerpressure. Well fatjohhny yes the PS3 is expensive now as far as "gayass" youll have to eullucidate on that one. Zippy more or less nailed everything on the head the PS3 will use gyros not motion sensors so they would be ripping of the DS not the Wii. Now speaking of greedy corporations isnt XBOX owned and controlled by.....MICROSOFT! Yes they may make great products (after a few years of updates and patches)but they will squeeze you for every single dime. Also dell computers are crap, No offense to dell lovers just saying you can do alot better.

I forgot to add I palyd ZOE some ,I thought the story was so so,the game itself is a DMC/Onimusha clone add flying and shooting and EXP to go to weapons and stuff.

I think Ill look into ZOE. Ive never seen the anime so that will probaly make the game more enjoyable. I started to Play Morrowind last night and died withing the first 30m lol. I gotta remember cant let em see ya steal.

well the ZOE games dont use the man charatcers from Z.O.E I think ZOE 2 might..msotly the games are about unknowen charatcers getting the Overpowerd mechs *L*

If you like stradgy games like SHining force or Fire emblem try ZOE on the GBA its near perfect as far as streadgy games go (its only lacking splash/radius damage).

I ahve seen teh ZOE TV show 26eps and the moive the moive is darker and mroe depressive the TV show takes from it but is more comedy and action.
Most anime game tend to follow the show or try and recreate the show the ZOE games I ahve seen build on the shows storys not redo and such.

Well I have oblivion but I made myself swear that i would play morrowind first (I bought it a year ago and havent touched it) I also have to finish Fable because I know Oblivion is just going to spoil me rotten. The few minutes i played of it ive liked >graphics and proscessing are not an issue with my pc => I just cant get into point and click RPGS TOEE, NWN, and last one i tried Planescape:Torment. I guess I just like active games more.

Fable is overly short plus if you take to much tiem your guy becoems OLD *L*

the 360 caps out at 400 altho thats a bit high for what it is,its more a 300$ system at best,the PS3 is realy WTF.

I think if anything, I am annoyed with the pricing of the PS3, what kind of a price is 600$ + for something that plays games, and reads movies. Its the price of a computer!! Why would I put that much into something like that, I would rather buy a computer!!

I gather the PS4, if Sony doesn't go bankrupt, will cost 800+, as the price seem to get more and more incremental with every release of a next generation console.

Yeah i really hope sony isnt serious and will release it at a decent price. North America counts for almost 1/2 theyre market if the PS3 flops over here (and Europe too of course)then that will cripple SCEA the japans sales might be enough to keep SCEJ afloat. Also has anyone heard of any developers pulling out because of the projected price? Just a thought, that if Sony is serious bout $600.00 then I as a game devoloper would know that I wouldnt make any sales and because no one can afford the system and I would lose alot of $ and pull out.

Here's the scoop on the PS3. It's not expensive when you think about what you get. A gaming console, a 60 GB hard drive and a blue-ray DVD, but what's going to kill it is eventually you'll have to upgrade the console to play future games, it's like a computer, and Sony's plan is to get developer's to make games into chapters. You buy the first chapter at the store and future chapters of the game on-line. That's where their going to make up for the mojney lost on the $600 dollar price tag they have on the PS3.

This is ridiculous. people get pssd off bcoz as soon as a new console comes out people rush to buy it and the next month, it drops over �400! the best time to buy any console is 6 months after its release. There will be more games, there will be cheaper games, the game graphics will have improved, the console would have gone cheaper, there would be "modding" services available, and there would be a smaller, better version of the old console. wait a while, dont be a fool by giving your money away and getting ripped off! the consoles only cost under �50 to build, and yet they are bieng sold for �500!
