Opera web browser for DS

Opera web browser for DS
Nintendo has announced a web browser as an addition to it's free Wi-Fi service. The browser is a DS-optimised version of Opera, using the touch screen the way commonly used for PDAs. The browser will debut in Europe 6th of October for around £30 ($57).

The Nintendo DS Browser will feature two main modes, Overview Mode shows the entire page on the other screen and highlighted area is shown enlarged on the other, and Opera’s Fit-to-Width Mode which fits the whole website in the dual screens, therefore requiring no horizontal scrolling. You can browse the web, check and send email, bank and shop online, and chat live with your friends. The browser features a quick start for faster start-up and bookmarks for your favorite sites.

The Opera's web browser includes a password lock, which allows parents to set a password to protect their children from accessing websites. Nintendo and Astaro will also provide a parental control service which works like a proxy filter blocking unwanted web content.

The browser will be sold in a standard DS cartridge, and to support downloading of larger files and websites it comes bundled with Memory Expansion Pack, which fits to the GBA slot of a DS. The package will be available in two versions, one for the original DS and a slimmer version for the DS Lite.
