Movies and TV shows on Xbox Live

Movies and TV shows on Xbox Live
Xbox Live US Marketplace yesterday launched the service for selling TV shows and renting movies from CBS, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, MTV Networks, Paramount Pictures, and few other companies. The pricing of the content depends on media format and type, and whether it is a new release or a classic.

High definition TV shows cost 240 ($3) Microsoft points, while the inferior standard definition media costs a whole lot less at 160 ($2) points. Movie prices vary from 240 to 480 ($6) points, standard definition "classic feature film" will cost you 240, high def classic 360 ($4.5), a new release film in SD 320 ($4), and at the top a brand new HD film 480 Microsoft points.

The movies have a 14-day "rent period", during which you have to watch it, however the movie has to be watched within 24 hours from the first time it is launched.

they don't have a 20GB HD replacement they don't have a plan for HDVD gaming and yet they have streaming video.....PITIFUL!!!!!
MS show me what you are doing with gaming insted of playing with fluff smoke and mirrors.... its bad enough to get threw sonys BS....

Old it might be but new here it is,thus comments needed.

the Xbox is sadly still a joke......
    or prehaps I should say...
the xbox...a joke still....sad it makes me....

perhaps they are finalizing DRM for the new larger HDs......

MS are trying to out "useless feature" the PS3, and so far they are failing come on 20gb for an HDD yet you can stream HD movies of 6gb to it thats gotta be the most useless thing I've ever heard. They have completely got their priority's wrong with this system (360) there are so many other problems/features they should be adding/correcting rather than a download service very few people are going to use.

Also isn't old news, was announced previously but this is saying that it has been officially launched.

i find this great because you have 14 days inwhich to watch the movie or show and even better it lasts longer and microsoft has already stated in 2007 they are releasing a 150 gig hard drive for the xbox 360 two bad for sonys little 60 gig and worse sonys hard drive is not upgradeable by user you have to pay sony to upgrade it for you how sucky is that worse i like the 14 day rental because i wouldn't do the 48 hour rentals from sony

    24.11.2006 02:46 #5

  • duckNrun

So those prices listed are for rentals?? LOL

No thanks, I'll just stick with my local store or Netflix and save my money.

yo MS, how about you figure out some cool fetures to add to the 360 that ARE FREEE instead of this retardedness. anyone who might download a tv show is going to do it for free not from MS as a rental.

halo 3 better be the best thing since sliced bread, thats all i have to say.

anyway exactly MS doesn't have a clue about whats it dong and the PS3 know t can live ff the fanoys until they are forced to drop the price...

what people fail to releize is that the 360 has a DRM'd HD....
with the frimware being net friendly...you'll only be able to mod the system the way you want if its fully offline.
anyone know if you can update the 360 offline with the updates you approve of?

    I got a weak link

    barely ok gaming future?

mention of metal gear coming to 360, assassins creed... i dont like it , but halo 3... come on dude.. there are plenty of games coming out.

game seaqules are becoming like movie seaqules, bigger louder and sux harder rarely are they truely better than the first gamethe 360's futrue is bleak for 3 reasons

1.its built on current tech whitch wil be old in 2-3 years

2.without the larger size of DVD or at least a HD to paly speed up the 360 is going to look cheap and slow compared to the PS3.

3.teh 360 offers the least in innovation .

The kills the 360 dead on shear fun factor alone.
the PS3 while it suxs in every other way than the 360 has a better grasp on where its going.

SInce the wii covers inovation and price and the PS3 covers graphics the 360 has no legs to stand on maybe its "Xclusive" titles but that sadly is about it,if it where to amke the core system under 250 the HD system under 350 then they would have a better chance at fighting the others but as it is now the 360s going down mountain.(slower than going down hill and more rocky).

    1. almost all current technology is old in 3 years, blu ray might not even last that long

    2. cheap and slow?
unless you are running 12x Blu-ray, regular 12x dvd rom is faster, and even 12x isnt that much faster.

    Blu-ray 4x: 144MBps / 18MBps
    12x DVD: 66 - 132Mbps / 8.2 - 16.5MBps

    3. 360 offers the least in innovation?

because it doesnt have a Blu-ray drive that jacks the price of the console up 200 bucks? how abotu no rumble for innovation?

not arguing, just debating your points.

"HD system under 350 then they would have a better chance at fighting the others but as it is now the 360s going down mountain."

you can get a premium 360 for $340 a few places, dell.com had them the other day for 340

    *huggs you*
debates are fine arguments are trireing :P

1.What was the Xbox about? power frist onine 2nd,the 360 becuse of its quick deving time is not ,its a 1.5 system the HD is lacking because you can not create a cacheing system for multi games.

As it stands now the PS3 is a full 2.0 if not 2.5 system the trouble with it its 600$ and is a over hyped media machine but it will keep pace with even computer gaming for the next 5 years the 360 as it is is barely a 1.5 system because of the BWC cock up almost a 1.2 becuse the 360 is only slightly more powerful than the Xbox its going to ahve a rough road ahead on it fighting with the ps3 .....all these little thigns add up

    2 and 3.
you are right however the PS3 is as lacking as the 360 but its able to do things the 360 can not thus why I say the 360 will be showing its age in 2-3 years.
they could have done soemthign about loading but they have not which will only becoem ore a problem as games get bigger.

About time prices started to come down.
maybe another 100 and I can afford to get one for myself...or do what I always do and build it myself *L*

In the end the 360 is a hop pog with a unclear next gen game future it can do current gen all fine and well.

the PS3 is living in aggogance land they have a ok next gen system built the price is to much and they think they can do no wrong..well..MS is like that but *L*

the WII is about the only real next gen system to me,why because of the new controls that alone makes it 10X more interesting than the just another upgraded 6th gen console like the other 2.

I'll end this by saying the 360 is looking better the game line up for next year dose look neat far better then the Xboxs 2nd year plus the enw revision is coeming out new hardware to fix all thos old hardware bugs...in all not bad....but still on a whole MS is meardering a bit to much for me to flop 300 or 400(games,system,tax) down on.
I am not even going to speak to the pS3 until it lowers its price below 350.

if thats not clear let me put it to you liek this
360 was crap now is smelling better but still stinks alittle.

Sonys arrogance has turned the PS3 into fools gold.

the WII is for me :P

    @kaosX
BD is has way faster read/write speeds than DVD, 2x BD (which is in all BD players) is 72mbps DVD at 16x is only 21mbps how does that make BD slow?

    @zippyDSM
Ive been hearing of firmware upgrade issues and stuff with the WII, which is putting me off getting a release console in December. They might just be user stupidity but im not sure.

wait so legaly i can upgrade the hard drive size on the ps3 ??????

oh and your right about the 360 having more issues vs ps3 so far only 2 and my x360 i really dont feel TRUE HD gaming i got my full 1080i tv ( rca f38310) crt tube!! monster cables and i even have GOW ( gears of war) it feels more next gen but even the ps3 lauch game on target looks amazing and i dont think from 8 to p it would make a slight diffrense so ps3 is the clear winner ... and yes halo 3 is the only reason i got 360 ...

    25.11.2006 15:32 #22

  • Andrew691

Yes you can upgrade your HDD in the PS3 whenever you want and it still keeps its warranty.
Halo 3 and maybe GOW would be the only reason I would get a 360, but Halo doesnt come out for a while and in that time there might be a price drop or it might be bundled with a system for cheap so im waiting.

the only thing sony scrwed up on the PS3 was by putting it all to gather for half a grand, you can put SATA HD in it you want ,it uses linix as a OS ,I dont know what the partention imits will be but ti should take a 200GB HD eaily.

the 360 however they DRM'd it there "might" be a update or they could un DRM it off the frimware maybe but still tis rather limited.

Grears of war is said to use 70ish% of the 360s power ,and the PS3 should be able to do that out of the box.
AS much as I laoth sony the PS3 more power.

In all the 360 is messed up but the games are getting better, new revision of the 360 comeign out in feb to.

I like the WII the most tho :3

i bought my 360 @ costco so once im done with halo 3 ill be returning it for my full cash refund , im guessing sony invested alot so ppl wouldnt break in d/l steal games and be legaly able to put a bigger hd .... i mean nobody has talked about trying to hack the ps3 but what happen with 360 everyone wanted to hack it and talked alot i wonder why not the ps3????

    25.11.2006 15:40 #25

  • gus738

so ppl are considering a screw up on selling cost??? WTF i wouldnt cuz i mean its a gaming PLUS blue ray right there alone the blue ray cost that much and more and fianly its a LINUX so i personaly dont think it was expensive IN FACT it was cheap i mean why did everyone buy it and MOST ATLEST 80 % OF THEM re sold it for INVESTMENT!!!! ps3s are sellling on ebay for 70hun 8 9 and AVG of 1 to 2 gs and atmost 9 and once 14 thousand.....

i really think it wasnt so expensive ppl are paying more on ebay....

gow is pretty good and at some points is does use more of its "power usuage" but hardly any how do i know? cuz i have a bugged edition and it tends to crash and yea so its really stable wow so much for the 70ish % of usuage of gow handing....

both systems will be hacked in time the Xbox has always been easier to do hackplus the new online frimware so they can hack the hacks is also a annoyance...,but add the BR no one wants to deal with full ps3 hackign jsut yet not that they wont just a 700$ bunring is a bit to much *L*

ya know Sony so eaily could have broken it down
    core 20gbhd,usb,ethernet,BT,wired pad 299
    core 60gbhd,usb,ethernet,BT,wireless pad 399

HDMI port add on 190(with cables even)
    Wi fi 50
    Multi card reader 50

but they didn't that annoys me and others S0ny also has attacked Importers/exporters to protect thier regions for movie sales, you do know th PS3 is not region free but cross regrioned right?
the EU machines will only play EU movies if this is true and not EU/japan(region 2) Sony is ramping its war on the consumer....

If you have a 360 who cares...if you have a Ps3 who cares...if you have a Wii who cares every human has his or hers likes and dislikes about all the systems.
That doesn't make one better than the other. One persons opinion is just that an opinion and not the Gospal of all gaming. I say if you like a system go buy it and don't listen to all the crap that will be posted on AD by a bunch of wanabe knowitalls who to hear them say it could develop a better system. Just remember, if they were that good and wanted in the tech world wouldn't they be there now instead of be here on AD writing post at all hours of the night. Lets use the Brain god gave us and make our own choice.

BluRay : Hideo Kojima has been courted by MS since before the XBOX. MS offered SEGA and KONAMI Windows based dev kits for floppy disc/rom encrypted arcade systems in the early 90s and Kojima was a big fan of them. Later, when the XBOX came about he was disappointed with the ported performance of MGS II XBOX but still said that he found the console extremely appealling. Now that KONAMI have a deal with Sony AND MS his eyes are turned toward's Nintendo's Wii - he sees that as the most innovative gaming platform. Bottom Line : Kojima goes to whichever platform HE prefers, regardless of business. Much like his nearest counterpart Yu Suzuki who made SEGA the major brand of the 90s.

Anyway its been said keeping a game to one system can be harmful to it but it helps the system I don't think the Xbox would have done near as well if is titles were on the PC as well but then even they got me by getting one *L*

I would rather them fight for first release than a full exclusive deal, altho if they did that there would be even less a diffrance in them 0-o

So the news artical is about media downloads of Xbox Marketplace.

This is neat. Certainly not something new, but its a way for many with standard TV and no HD DVD or Blu Ray player to get at some nice high def media. I, for one, have very basic old school cable service and TVs capable of High Def picture. In that respect, this is a good thing. Cool idea, Microsoft.

Also, this means more downloadable media available to the public. Remember, more competition means better prices for us consumers, (generally. Competition right? This is digital media though, hmm...)

However, I don't own a 360 or plan to get one. I have an expensive enough // fun enough computer. If I want to play games in front of a TV with friends, Wii it'll be.

Quote: its a way for many with standard TV and no HD DVD or Blu Ray player to get at some nice high def media

either you un aware of this but you dont enjoy high defination UNTIL you have a hd capable tv , pixels may be deliver but you cannot see it cuz the tv is unaware of these piexles theirfore not capable so if anyone wants to get hd content but has a sd tv then not even like this they are capable of viewing hd content.
