An 'iTunes for video games'

An 'iTunes for video games'
Virgin Games and Game Domain International have teamed up to create a new virtual way to purchase game downloads. The pair hope that their project, A World Of My Own (AWOMO), will revolutionize how video games are purchased over the Internet. They promise to enable gameplay within minutes of purchase through high speed downloads with better security and usability.

The pair hopes that the launch of the service will rapidly boost the number of game downloads. "This is a really exciting development for us, as it gives us the opportunity to do for PC games what iTunes has done for music. The GDI technology will revolutionise how the mass market will play games and will give them more choice for less money." Virgin's chairman, Sir Richard Branson said.

Game publishers including Koch Media are said to have already registered their support. The platform is expected to launch "later in 2007".

At first when i read this article i was like wow what a new idea and then when i read the two comments above i realized it was not a new idea. But having a name like Virgin behind it will make it popular like Itunes is when it comes to music downloads.

the trouble with this how are the downloads handled are they like MP3s that can be played with any "PLAYER" or like gametap that needs to check that your account is in good standing before you can play.
