Yahoo China sued for piracy?
The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) confirmed today that eleven companies have filed a lawsuit against Yahoo's China division for about 5.5 million yuan (US$710,690). The companies accuse Yahoo! China of copyright infringement. It should be noted that up to 85% of all music in the country is believed to be pirated.

The IFPI said that China is an important market, and that the group is working to eradicate piracy in the country. Yahoo! China responded to the allegations by saying it does, and has always respected copyright and supports the fight against piracy. It also said that precedence has been set for such cases, and has shown that web site owners/operators are not liable for the actions of third party users.

    ...Only 85%?

I'm surprised they don't just adopt some crippling upload/download limit for files over 2mb. Sure you'll get the persistent users who will span/repackage files; but that's a fraction of individuals willing to go through that much trouble. It's helped keep yahoo in good standing here in many ways. But I guess every comany has their problems.

It would strat out as a fraction but would grow soon after people are more familiar to ways to get around it. Then you would have some one who makes a very easy user friendly program that can do all the work for you and it blows up again. Ignorance doesn't prevent people for a long time.

I see what you're saying; but I think you have one bit that you haven't put into your prediction there.

Yahoo did the same thing here. And it made them completely inconvenient for filesharing; so instead people switched to new; better methods. By doing this, yahoo made sure that the 'easy workaround' was to use somebody else's online storage.

So I agree that people will always find a way. But if yahoo makes it harder; the way that people find will be whoever is easier to exploit.
