Microsoft denies Xbox Live security breach

Microsoft denies Xbox Live security breach
Microsoft Corp. is currently investigating claims of fraud on the Xbox Live network, but has re-assured the six million users of Xbox Live that there has been no security breach. "Recently, there have been reports of fraudulent activity and account theft taking place on the Xbox Live network," Microsoft said in a statement. On March 11th, a user posted a complaint to the Xbox forums about a stolen account and credit card details.

"We want to reassure all of our 6 million Xbox Live members that we have looked into the situation and found no evidence of any compromise of the security of Bungie.net or our Live network," the company said. The Redmond-based software giant said that there was a few isolated incidents where malicious users attempted to get personal information from unsuspecting users, and in turn use the information to access the victim's Xbox Live account.

Security on the Xbox Live network is a huge concern for Microsoft, who's products are targeted the most by hackers.

I received an email from email.xbox.com trying to get me to install active-x. I checked its ip and it came from someone in New Jersey on a Qwest line. Read your emails carefully.

Let's just say my house was secure, I was out of the country for a very long period of time with no access to Xbox or to my email and my account was breached and my credit card was stopped while I was away as it was used by people who obtained my details from microsoft. Either through NBungie or through customer support. They're covering their asses, there's been a serious security breach. My email, paypal, bank etc have not been affected.

Microsoft are lying to us to hide their negligence and mask their culpability/liability for any possible lawsuits.

Last I heard there was a supposed 'breach' of XBox Live.......because log-in & password details stolen from the PSN breach were tried (and worked) on XBL.

Now, if this is so - and given the well published info that a lot of people have trouble keeping & using more than a couple passwords etc is reasonably well documented - how is this "Microsoft are lying to us to hide their negligence and mask their culpability/liability for any possible lawsuits"?

At what point in that example is it anyone but the hackers fault & the private individual's negligence?
