Acer sued by HP over patents

Acer sued by HP over patents
In a lawsuit filed in Texas today, Hewlett-Packard has sued Acer for allegedly infringing 5 HP patents.

HP believes that from the years 1997 to 2003, Acer infringed on patents that include power management, DVD editing, clock switching, processing capabilities, and several other technologies.

HP wants an injunction placed on Acer that would force them to stop selling some of their products in the US, as well as unspecified damages.

"HP believes Acer has been selling computer products that use HP's patented technologies without permission. HP respects the intellectual property rights of others and expects the same treatment in return,"
HP said in a statement.

An analyst believes that this lawsuit shows that HP can no longer ignore Acer, which has seen a high level of growth and acquired market share in the U.S, anymore. "Acer has become a threat that leading PC vendors cannot afford to neglect. We understand why competitors would desire a halt to Acer's expansion in the U.S. market."

Hp should be nervous as my Acer Laptop blows away any of hp's current laptops. It runs cooler and faster, its made of a carbon fiber shell and has decent battery life.Heck my Acer has never even locked up while my HP does it once a week and they both run the same operating system and software.(Acer runs AMD while HP runs Intel maybe thats why) This type of lawsuit pretty much says "The consumers are giving you (Acer) their money instead of us (HP) And that only in a U.S. courtroom can we (HP) get any money from Acer. I am sure that HP has bent the copy right laws more than a few times for their own gain. They should try listening to what the consumers actually want and trying to fill the bill without bloating it. They do that and the market will take care of them.
    IMHO

I have stopped buying HP products because their tech help people do not speak English.

HP is still in business? Haha.

Seriously, I haven't seen anything by HP that I've wanted for over a decade. Even after they merged with Compaq, it didn't make any difference to me. I'd still rather own a Dell or even Gateway.

It doesn't surprise me that Acer would come under fire like this either. I own more Acer products than I do HP (which would be zero). I don't even own a HP printer.
