fawkin good that prices are starting to drop, if the war comes to a stalemate id have no complaints buyin both an HDDVD and Blu-ray player for a cheap price, hell maybe the dual format players will see $299 some day

well by summer of 08 I can see both HDVD and BR players being at or under 200 in 09 dual players will probably take over at 200-290 tech is moving fast the formats not so much.

I'm still waiting for the real boom of combo BD/HD-DVD players. Many companies are looking into that, as well as some companies who are looking into dual format discs. I figure by this Summer, I can get a combo player for a decent price (MAYBE), and then I won't worry about the investment either way, because I'll be able to watch my hi def movies either way. And that's when the real win comes in... For consumers.
The problem right now, is it's such a risk investment. I would like to get into the hi-def playback; but I'm not about to invest hundreds of dollars into somthing that might be obselete or out of production in a year or two. When we get dual format players, we can safely invest. I'm waiting for either that, or a clear winner before I buy. Until then, it's all speculation, regardless of how strong anyone feels about one side or the other.

I don't see that(boom of combo player) happening till mid 09 ;_;
By late 08 it could happen but I think Hdef players will still be playing price wars by then,the combo players are the best choice for the consumer.

I like to see this drive that pioneer is bringing out cause most of my drives are pioneer and they are the best in my opinion.

nice, my first cdrw-drive was a hp and it costed me about €550 so this 300$ is an ok-price up to me.
But I wonder when the first affordable hifi-models will show up...

This is just a SD DVD burner and BD ROM.
For $300.
In China (so who knows when or how much in western markets).
Not exactly what I'd call the great value Blu-ray burner some seem to want it to be about - but that's pretty understandable as the press release is (IMO deliberately) as vague about it as they come.
