AACS cracked once again

AACS cracked once again
Despite continued efforts by the AACS LA to protect next gen discs from content pirates, the pirates always seem to be one step ahead.

The latest volume key, scheduled for release next week, has already been cracked. Pirates using the latest Slysoft AnyDVD HD beta have been able to rip HD DVD discs using the new AACS version 3. Although scheduled for release next week, the pirates tried, and succesfully ripped early release previews of the Matrix Trilogy, the first movies to use Version 3.



If this is to keep happening (keys being cracked before the DVDs hit shelves) it might be time for the AACS to rethink the whole key model. After the last AACS key hit the internet, AACS LA chairman Michael Ayers stated that "the organization planned to continue clamping down on key dissemination, despite the fact that attempts to do so only encouraged further dissemination."

And so the war between hackers and the AACS continues on.

    this is actually good news for encryption companies as long as media providers continue to insist on using these arcane methods against their customers.

    It means that there is a continual stream of media execs coming up to the encryption troughs to dump more money in and buy new **updated** schemes... all paid for by the consumers who actually buy the discs.

    AACS LA will just keep changing the code every 90 days unless they manage to lower the date and then the money will pour into AACS LA faster than they can count it.

    This is not surprising cause its always been the way. They have to realize their are people out there that will always be one step ahead. Its a rule of nature if you tell someone you cant do something or your not allowed they will find a way to get around it.

    My worry is that slysoft might be raided & shut down but from what i understand its run in a country where they can't be touched but if money change hands anything can happen.I would hate that Slysoft product are awesome.

    If this happens, there always will be others who pick up where Slysoft left off. I'm not afraid. But this whole thing with the copy protection crap around the new formats makes me NOT to invest in such a player, let alone discs.

    Not sure why anyone is getting excited buy this revelation now since it has been know since shortly after the encryption scheme was release 5 years ago that it was weak and had been cracked. Hooray Slysoft and HD DVD.

    I'll keep buying DVDs as long as they're made. There's nothing wrong with them, or their resolution, even on a 52" screen. I don't need HD anything - only media companies need it, so let THEM pay for it. When they start paying me to watch HD content, I'll think about it.

    I have been in the movie collecting business since movies were first put on Betamax, then VHS,the laser disc, now DVD and the upcoming Blue-Ray or HD-DVD. I am movie rich and Component poor. I have nothing to copy my Betamax movies to DVD and the copies from VHS to DVD are not particularily great. If They change formats again, from DVD's I am going to just watch cable or Satelite. I have one Betamax machine left which I can not get parts for, Four VCR's Two Laser Disc, and six DVD player/recorders, plus DVD player/burners in four computers. I have been able to copy all movies with all equipment since the begining, but as a legit citizen I have bought 95 percent of all my movies. The other five percent was because I was told I could not copy them. I will not fork out more money for any new formats.

    This has to be an inside leak if it is cracked befor the release. These companies need to get their own people straight before pointing fingers at "hackers."

    That being said, a big shout out to Slysoft. The last defense of the consumer.
