Sony's ARccOS group takes down RipIt4Me and FixVTS

Sony's ARccOS group takes down RipIt4Me and FixVTS
While details of this are sketchy at best and there are multiple court orders to not release details to the public, it appears that the developers for the ARccOS encryption destroying software RipIt4ME and FixVTS have been heavily pursued by an Australian court.

In a copyright lawsuit issued Digital Digest, two separate court orders have been issued to seek out personal data as well anything related to the RipIt4Me software. In the first search, the courts were looking for anything related to the users involved, the actual use of the software as well as information leading to the development process. In particular, they were looking for information that shows the intent to circumvent the ARccOS corruption mechanism instilled on many Sony released DVDs. In a second search, one of the developers had personal items seized from their residence targeting again, information regarding the development of RipIt4Me as well as parties involved in its creation. Another person involved with the project was specifically named in the court order in which lead to the RipIt4Me website being taken down.

In a final order issued on May 3rd, Digital Digest was ordered to not include any forums that discussed DVD backups at all. In addition, the administrator of the site has been banned from providing any DVD backup support on any website.

I don't have a problem with sony for the most part but what disturps me is that the court order is making it illegal for someone to post information about DVD backup. This is the scariest part and destruction of that persons rights.

I also want to say if you have a copy of the program just torrent it for people to get, lol.

This was in an Aussie court? Why don't they just migrate the servers over the net to a few mirrors in other countries, and then let the courts fight for 10 years about who has jurisdiction. Hell, put a mirror in Switzerland & another in the Caymans, and they'll never shut it down.

ya sony made 10 billion off emo spidy 3 but lost 3 on the PS3 plus they are kinda disembodied heads when one dose not make moeny the others cannibalize it,if the PS3 dose not start making money back soon they will drop it or damage it further it in some way(removing more hardware but not lowering consumer price).

That's a shame -- that's really nice software. But it's not going to change anything, and they'll be back in a week.

What cracks me up about Sony is that they will put their super secret heavy duty encryptions on a vague, children's movie that failed at the box office, but then it won't be on a rated R adult action film that did rather well at the box office. It's stupid.

The DVD and movie industry is just retarded. I don't know why they don't just give up and price their DVDs (and theatre movies) accordingly. Ask me when the last time was that I backed up an $8 DVD. That would be never. I just bought the stupid DVD instead. Back when movie theatre tickets were $4.00, ask me how many movies I simply waited on to come out on (then VHS) video? That would be none -- I just went to theatre and saw what I wanted.

I'm not going to pay $20 for a DVD and I'm not going to pay $10 to sit in an uncomfortable theatre (especially not with the widescreen and surround sound sitting in my family room at home with a rather comfy chair and a fridge). Both industries need to wake up and see the writing on the wall.

I guess this is the loudest way that arccos can shout "uncle"

And rightly so, because this software is the best, most ingenuous one yet. It even provides the user with a blow-by-blow account of what is being deciphered, and sweeps all the trash it rejects. This software delivers when all the others fail.

Sony has just made martyrs out of the developers of this software. I tip my hat off to them.

So what is the best combination, CloneDvd2 and AnyDVD or Ripit4me and dvddecrypter . Is it just because they are free programs and AnyDVD you have to pay for?

    16.6.2007 13:06 #23

  • tucker001

DVDFab Decrypter and AnyDVD are the best

    I don't need a sig.

    16.6.2007 13:27 #24

  • Steener19

I wish someone could 'splain this to me: how can Sony (spit on the ground as I write it) get the free software taken down but it's perfectly legal to buy programs like CloneDVD and AnyDVD? Is it maybe because Sony (spit) owns them too and are profiting at both ends of this major clusterf--k?

I wish the developers of RipIt4me all the best and plan to boycott the Sony (spit) asswipes.

    16.6.2007 16:02 #25

  • GernBlan

@Steener19: I think it's location, location, location. I'm sure Sony's legal team is working on something against all the software that's currently out at the moment, but most of them are wise enough to take advantage of jurisdictional loopholes. I wish RipIt4Me had been, but I suspect they will be back in business soon.

    16.6.2007 19:53 #26

  • Steener19

I hope so: it is a very elegant program which in my opinion they should have been able to market no sweat. It is a major loss, not only because of the program itself, but also what it represents - the right to buy a disc and remove all the advertising crap and trailers the manufacturers force onto you.

Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society: Std. Ed

The manufacturers of this dvd disc must have stumbled upon another form of copyguard. A lot of encoders are unable to decode it. I found some way but I will tell you over the email.

I back up my movies so I do not have to pay to watch it again, or to secure the copy in case the family of mine breaks it. I buy the original if it is worth the money.

Copying movies for resale is a crime, because it steals the reward that is supposed to go to the people who produced the movies. If I do not have the means nor the intention to resell the backup copy, why should anybody prevent me from doing whatever I want from what I own.

If I rented a dvd movie, I should own the movie for the duration of the rental, no? And I shelled out money, a portion of which goes to the producers of the dvd. Where is the stealing in that?

I will send you the method of backing up the aforementiond dvd movie even if you are with the copyright protection group. You deserve to know, too, right?

    If sony will continue with the court action;
    rename product
even put a small token/donation fee on the programs and place it on a sister site.
I mean what have they go against anyone making backups.
I've seen about 2 news story over the last 2 years here in Aus where someone's been caught out copying and reselling DVD's with new labels.

    17.7.2007 02:37 #44

    One does not sell backups.
    One sells copies.
    This is stealing.

I just got myself a perfectly legal program that allows one to back up one's DVD and remove all the crap trailers and advertising that jerks like Sony (spit-on-the-ground)forces one to buy with their DVDs: AnyDVD 6160. Best of all it also it also does Bluerays!!!

Is there some crying & whining happening at Sony (spit) headquarters?

I mentioned before it's rather interesting that those programs are available retail & that's okay... but God forbid that someone give away an elegant program like RipIt4Me. What's wrong with this picture?

Anyway, the movie industry sure stopped us from being able to back up stuff, huh?

it's all ok. sony has such a hard on for pirates that now thier products are starting to suffer. thier tvs and product reliability are slowly declining as this year the samsung lct line (samsung of all people) is actually a better tv and thier s300 b) player is a waste of time sure to be abandoned by sony when the s500 comes out. the 1080p panasonic plasma will eat a sony lcd for lunch and thier famed es series line is of no intetest to much of any one any more. sony has been so obsessed with thinking the average consumer is a pirate that thier dvd recorders are ridiled with anti copy schems that have the local cable companies scratching thier heads as such the recorders end up back in the store as an open box unit. both panny and sammy make b) players that eat the sony line for lunch. so while sony loses focus on what they have built in trade for a obsession one has to wonder whos driving the train at sony. this is the first year that i have rejected a sony lcd tv, a sony s300 b) player, and a sony dvd recorder all for other brands that were far supperior and have customer satisfaction as priority one. good luck sony there's always a lot of room at the bottom of the barrel however it is so so tough to claw your way back up the food chain. in my opinion this obsession could cost sony its companies reputation and cripple sales of hardware based products. actualy for the first time i have been hearing comments from people regarding products when some one mentions sony i will hear "but you should look at xxx brand before you buy as sony is not what they were 5 years ago". product reliability is down, performance is down, cost is way up(i wonder why), overal performance and ciustomer satisfaction is down.

Well, SONY are *bleep* and I want them to know, personally, that I USE Ripit4me every day at least 15 times a day to legally back up all of my store bought DVDs.

    *bleep* *bleep*

Out of 100 computers in amny general place in the world, 95 of them WILL have Ripit4me installed.

*bleep* Sony and it's time for the next person who will bypass their ENCRYPTION to step up.

    6.8.2007 10:37 #54

  • XweAponX

Well, it's been a year and a half since I posted my sentiments, and my sentiments still remain untouched, although some jackass edited the crap out of my post.

The last line basically said, "Screw Sony and it is time for the next person to stand up and bypass their *encryption* - The word Encyrption was edi-deleted! I guess encyption is a 4 letter word now.

It cannot be legal for me to backup my expensive DVD collection and also be illegal for me to do it at the same time, and if Sony or other assjacks try to make me stop I will fight them to the fullest extent that I can. And I still perform backups every time I return from the DVD store, and it is the first thing I do. Why do I do this? Because DVD is probably the most Volatile of all storage medium! I have Vinyl Phonogragh Disks from the 1930's but none of the CDs I bought when that medium was introduced survive today, and I was lucky enough to back up most of my collection to WAV files when that technology became available to me. I do not consider that stealing, I consider it protecting songs I spent several thousand dollars for. Nobody can tell me what I did was illegal or wrong or piracy or any such thing. In 2002 or so when my then-small DVD collection started to become corrupt, I began making copies of each disk, and now I have a copy of every film I bought as DVD... And I have master ISO images stashed away somewhere on old Hard Drives, which I check to make sure that they are still viable.

Why shouldn't I have done this? I spent the cash, I could have eaten something but instead I bought some movie for 26 bucks- Which is a lot of scratch.

So now I can watch these films where the original DVD has stopped fucntioning- Cos I PAID for it. Sony has to WAKE UP! We are not claming OWNERSHIP of the content of a DVD, just the DVD. And therefore we WILL continue to make copies of that content. We ALREADY PAID for that content, and will will nto CONTINUE to pay for it. It is kind of like a Microsoft Windows XP Product Key that way... We originally paid 400 Bucks for it, so we will keep using it, and if we have to use AntiWPA3.3 to KEEP it a valid key... Then we WILL use AntiWPA3.3.

It is funny and actually hilarious that they try to tell us that "DVDs are electronic devices" - What CRAP! Utter Poop! DVDs are the medium which contains DATA which is played back on MY DVD PLAYER or My COMPUTER- It is not a device, it is a plate of tripe! It is a side of Beef. Electronic devices by definition MUST include electronic circuitry. But regardless of what it is, the basic law allows me to make BACKUPS. So that is what I do, and nobody will prevent me from doing it, by making the software I use illegal or any other means. You hear that? You will prevent me from copying DVDs by "wresting Ripit4me out of my cold dead hands" - Thank you, Chuck Heston.

Sony pulled some crap where they scrambled "The Dark Night" and other POS titles, and someone immediately fixed it, all you have to do to copy those DVDs is to install AnyDVD, the software which seems to decrypt Blu-Ray as well- And run it in the background and let AnyDVD destroy any new encryption. Thank GOD that there are people who will just keep doing what is required to allow us our GOD and State given right to COPY.

Slysoft has always been in good odor with me and about 90% of the DVD-Copying population (And that population has increased by leaps and bounds in the year and a half since I posted it... At the time, maybe 1 in 10 had DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, Imgburn, FixVTS, and Ripit4me installed.

In my work I get to see the habits of "The Average Man" - And the average man has all of the aforementioned programs installed, we are talking in the last 4 months, 10 out of every 10 of my clients have had these things installed... As well as links to private forums where the art of making good region free and macrovoision and ArccoS and CSS free copies is being discussed NOW. Right NOW people are discussing how to bypass any crap that Sony, Disney, or any other manufacturer is trying to shove at is in the holy and nonexistant name of "Intellectual Property"

It is pleasing to see that Sony, by this action, has begun a massive and unstoppable movement of pissed off consumers who wish nothing else but to protect their investments.

Going back to what Mjfive said: What the Hell else are they gonna do to us?!

Eh? I am waiting for the day where Armed FBI in military SWAT uniform invade my home to arrest me for the thousands of DVDs I have copied and burned- They can add that to the charge of maliciously ripping that label right off the mattress of by bed.

With today's technology the copyright mafia can not have absolute control over distribution it rakes to deeply into the personal freedoms of the masses. Instead Copyright should focus on profits made from distribution this would be a much easier to control on all levels as there are clear instances of rights violations.

Sorry, I was still editing out the Typos ahaha:

Quote:"Instead Copyright should focus on profits made from distribution this would be a much easier to control on all levels as there are clear instances of rights violations."Yes, exactly- Which is why the fuKkKin US is ultra STUPID for making software piracy "Illegal even with no monetary gain" - So now there is no way to find out who REALLY is a criminal and abusing the so called intellectual property rights of the copywrong holders.

By making a tacit, blanket statement "All THIS is illegal" they make it impossible to locate and prosecute people and groups who are making a lot of money doing actual piracy.

So what do they do? They pursue 40 year old disabled mothers, and intellectually challenged people, and old men in wheelchairs, and even kids in school trying to keep a large amount of multimedia content which would take up a LOT of space in CD and DVD storage, which would be stored as MP3s and DivXviD Avi files on SD memory cards or tiny USB hard drives, which carry larger and larger amounts of data as the physical medium gets smaller and smaller.

Which is the future, but the RIAA/MPAA does not want the future, they want the past, where they had absolute control, even over what bands and films are to become popular and which ones are not to become popular- Because of Overbloat-Packaging.

Technologies that allow us to MINIMISE out collections so we can take it with us and ENJOY it in circumstances where we would not be able to enjoy it otherwise? Are made ILLEGAL.

So, I also agree with that term you used, COPYWRONG MAFIA.

Well look at the founding of the music industry they have always been after distribution and in pre digital times that's a reasonable thing to go after. However when you can copy or record something as easily as thinking, talking communicating about it focusing solely on distribution over steps the rights given to the content owner.

Focusing on profits alone is a better solution as you go after people who sale stuff without a license and you can go after places that rake in money through advertising. This allows for so much more give and take and allows the fans to build up interest in content as so the media industry can resell it to the masses.

If the media indutry focused on profits it would also help the conglomerates as they could offset cost by licensing out sales/publication to anyone willing re sell their stuff, with the ability for anyone to print a DVD/CD you could have a movement to bypass production and leave that up to the retailer/reseller.

But if anything is clear the media mafia dose not like change and innovation....

Well I can see who has no life...

Answering a post on an almost 2 yr old press release.

Yes, back when there was no internet. Then they could rape the public at will. Those were the good old days!

I for one have gotten tired buying the same album for the 4th time. Each time I buy it the price went up even though the expence in nmaking it has gone down. If the cost making an album is cut in half they double the price. How clever!

    RIAA bite me!!!

Well, as of Feb. 18, 2009, Ripit4me still works on all of the new releases that I have purchased and all movies I have bought since it stopped being updated in April 2007. Looks like they haven't found a way around this program yet.

    18.2.2009 21:32 #60

  • Mez

Then you have a limited collection. Though half the movies are bairly encrypted some are quite advanced. Old ripit is the best for bad pressings as long as the encryption is not too tricky.

  • orion250

Untrue, no limited collection here! Which titles have this "advanced encryption" that you are referring to? I have not had any problems with any new releases to date that I have bought so far!

Sony and Disney are both good for newer encryption. I think Madagascar I was the first of the new encryption.

I assume you are talking about the first Madagascar that came out about 3 or 4 years ago. Ripit had no problems whatsoever backing that one up. The new one that came out recently, I have not bought. I just might have to go to the store and pick that one up for the kids and try it out. I have also used DvdFab HD Decrypter on occassion, only because it seems to be a little quicker since it doesn't go through the FixVTS stage like Ripit does.

Try Madagascar 2, Saw IV and V etc.

You should run your DVDFab rips through FixVTS as well. It has the tendency to not provide the cleanest rips, which can hinder further processing.

Did not know that. I prefer to use Ripit though for the 1 step process (includes FixVTS). No problems with the ones done with DvdFab HD Decrypter though.

As a matter of fact, because I was curious, I also ran that movie through DvdXcopy (which I haven't used in about 2 years and hasn't been updated for several years) and it also had no problems backing it up. I don't have any interest in spending money on any of the "SAW" movies so I won't be trying them out.

if I may ask, are you running the lastest Anydvd in the background while using ripit4me ?

No other programs running in the background. I never had any luck with Anydvd, so deleted it. Just Ripit and DvdDecrypter, just like the good old days!

This is VERY interesting. It may have been the pressing or it may have been the first had better encryption. I do remember not being able to back that one up. No one on AD could at that time. I had to watch the original.

I have had disks that could not be backed up. They also did not play well. In fact I never watch a movie out of the box. They are all skippy these days. I also don't need to deal with the spam on the burned disk. Anyone that feels backing up is a science doen't know much. I am impressed how little I knew. You would figure after 8 yrs I should have figured it out.

    Thanks!

When did you try to back Madagascar 2 up? What software did you try to do this with? Did you even try Ripit with this movie? If you still have Ripit, try to back this movie up just to see if it will work. I have NEVER had a problem backing any movie up with Ripit4me whether it be a new release or an older movie. I was surprised that DvdXCopy was able to do this movie since it has not been updated for about 4-5 years! It took about 12 minutes to back it up with Ripit and about 6 1/2 minutes to back it up with DvdXCopy. After using DvdXCopy and verifying that it did indeed back the movie up, I deleted it. What "spam on the burned disk" are you talking about? Is it all the junk that they include on the original disc? If so, just use VobBlanker after ripping and before burning to BLANK out or delete this garbage. Which program do you use for your rips? Has anyone heard from or seen Pacman around the board recently? Is he still around?

It was Madagascar I not II. It was 2-3 years ago. Defab and AnyDVD+Clone and Ripit4me. DeFab did come out with a fix. There was a time when nothing could back it up.

There were plenty of movies that could not be copied with ripit4me when I used ripit4me more often. That is still my second line of attack. Many woes are due to bad pressings which ripit does well.

Back when the 1st one came out, I hadn't even heard of Ripit and was only using DvdXCopy. DvdXCopy had no problem backing the 1st one up 3 or 4 years ago right after it first came out. I tried DvdXCopy on the second one I just bought and had no problems backing that one up as well. Do you have the second one (new one)? If so, try using Ripit to back that one up. Wouldn't you think they would have used some type of "advanced" encryption in the last 4 years on these movies so that even DvdXCopy couldn't get past it?
