MPAA study shows film industry is back on course
According to the latest MPAA study, all-media revenue for 2006 was 8% higher than 2005, and reached $42.6 billion USD. The "all-media" references money made from home video, television, theatrical and pay TV entertainment.

The confidential report disclosed that all-media sales grew by 10% in the US and 5% in the top 25 international markets.

In 2005, sales were down and all-media revenue decreased 8.2% from the year before.

Canada, recently deemed a "haven for piracy", showed the biggest growth in terms of dollars by adding $341 million USD, a huge jump of 23%.

Russia, another so-called haven of piracy, moved up to become the 13th-ranked purchaser of U.S. filmed entertainment, a 50% hike from last year.

Theatrical revenue in Europe was $2.1 billion, matching 2004's record. Other notable stats included the death of the VHS which fell to 1% of overall all-media market share for the year.

The survey covered revenue recorded by the Walt Disney Co., Paramount Pictures Corp., Sony Pictures Entertainment, 20th Century Fox Film Corp., Universal City Studios and Warner Bros. Entertainment.

The only question that remains is, where are all these multi-billion dollar losses due to piracy?

Nice to know that MPAA feels as if they are the ones to thank. Maybe the selection of titles was just better than the year before? There are alot of really bad movies out there I know that I wouldn't purchace!

MPAA = Bullshit... seriously, when movie industries make bad movies and dont get more income than the last year... whats their answer: "BLAME THE PIRATES AND THE INTERNET"

They only putting up good numbers because they probably tripled their numbers suing and hiking prices up for more sales. Their is no reason for them to be so damn greedy. They getting all pissy because they mad that people dont want to keep forking out all that money for them to pay other people to pretend and they struggling doing that. Its good movies out this year but over the last 2 in a half years movies have been on the sub par side and they new it but they still got their money people went and seen those movies but yet because they wanted to show their strong hold on society by posting fake numbers and fake claims of diminished sales on the internet and regular people is sick. Its all about who you know and how much money you can show to get your way.

MPAA = Multiple Person A-hole Association

This is the best news i've heard in a while.

I think someone with lots of cash should sue them for misleading the public. Come on BILL....grow some balls ?

Also...from what i understand...they cannot track satellite viewing. If more and more peopel move towards satellite TV, legal or not and have larger TV's or Hi Def...then they don't need to buy DVDs or go to the movies. Utlimately...they will not be included in any count. MPAA blames this on pirates.

They do more damage than the pirates do. I'm sure of it.

its about time thease busness that make money off the backs of others are held acoutable... like the critics who pre-view the movies and rave about something that may(and I mean may) apeal to a limited number of people fails because they are trying to claim that everyone will run out and see it .... to list a few Saw and the sequeals , Hostal and the sequeals to list one type of movie that dosnt intrest me... really after Jason and Freddy who needs more bodybags ... but some like it but not all so it may hold a market place in retail or even the theaters but its not a money maker like Titanic or a Star Wars movie that holds a broader apeal or the fantastic four ... but when the sales slip its always piracy that doomed the film... maybe it was the critic . And now the MPAA is saying the are the help the movie industry needed so keep funding us to sue the people who go to thease things and have been mis-lead for years to shell out cash for crap and just want some thing back maybe for free or with alittle effort to recover their loses and they think that they the MPAA will make a dirrence... no they dont, those that steal will and those that buy are more carefull they may rent it first to see if they like it .

LONG LIVE PIRACY. DONT BUY ANYTHING. THE INTERNET IS YOUR FRIEND.

If a person is benifiting from piracy then a person should return the favor and pick up something others might like to have and share. I'm talking about people who are smart enough to know at least how to change their IP addresses before uploading lol :)

the way the MPAA was sounding, it was as if the sales would be zero...

proving that wide distribution, even at cheap prices, encourages buying... not discourage as the MPAA has claimed in every lawsuit
