AllofMP3.com closes

AllofMP3.com closes
Controversial Russian music download site, AllofMP3.com, closed its doors last week. The site, which sold music downloads for a fraction of the price that iTunes and similar authorized services charge, was the target of international legal and political attacks over the past two years. The site claimed that it was fully legal under Russian law, and for a time was the second most popular paid music download site in the UK.

The once "$30 million a year" site caused ripples across the world and at home, as it was painted as a huge block of Russia's entry into the World Trade Organization. Its business was particularly impacted when credit card and other online payment facilities withdrew their support for the site.

However, the company behind AllofMP3 followed the closure with the opening of yet another music download site, MP3Sparks.com, selling tracks for similarly low prices. The site uses the same legal arguments for its operations as AllofMP3.com.

Brings a tear to my eye as I'm reminded of Napster back in the day. One goes down, and another one pops up.

I don't understand why artists have a problem with cheap songs being sold, its the gig industry which makes them all the cash back! Sellign songs cheaply just means they get more fans.

I think the poeple going nuts over this are Apple, who are causeing all this crazy legal actions and shizle, cause if the site sellf ro ths low, they will have to reduce the price of there itunes, which means less cash, which eventually means no new mac OS's lolz!

So i am all for this! W00t keep sellign music for cheap, all i'll keep goign to the gigs

the middle man want more profit than the artist them selfs because of this the RIAA became a blind toothy guard dog that rapes innocent people.
A new RIAA needs to be made one that wants 1 penny on the dollar for every song sold, their job would be to route moeny to all artists, artists that make more than million a year need to pay 5K in yearly membership fees(adding to the pot) also to protect IP (pirated sales, make deals with web radio to host music, play ads and stuff to keep web radio free but talking about artists) this RIAA would not sue the common consumer no good comes from that they will only sue the media industry when contracts are broken or one sided, find and sue pirates that sale illicit copies off cheap MP3s online as a better option than free MP3s, meh pipe dream....N/M....was stairing into the sun *crawls back under rock*

WellI HOPE the music industry pays dearly for this, by more and more people getting their files by FREE p2p!

Why should we pay stupidly high prices for a song and THEN have DRM too?

Until the music industry learns the meaning of what a "customer"actually IS, they will contiue to win only a few battles but lose the WAR on filesharing! For every one they try to take down another one will pop up. Screw you music industry!

I'm confused. So we now have mp3sparks.com which is the same thing, and we still have AllTunes which was the non-web app version of allofmp3, which is also essentially the same thing.

So basically it moved across the street and changed its name?

There are 15+ other sites out there that profess to be the next AllOfMP3 replacement. There are reviews of over a dozen of these sites at http://www.songboom.com - it's worth checking out.

I agree with ZIppyDSM's post. It's not the artist that are getting pissed, it's the music industry. Artist don't really make alot of money from music sales anyway.
