SIXAXIS rumble controller will feature 'Touch Sense'?

SIXAXIS rumble controller will feature 'Touch Sense'?
PSM France has revealed some details on a SIXAXIS rumble controller for Sony's PlayStation 3 (PS3) console. One of the rumors that has been spread about such a controller is that it will feature "Touch Sense", a superior vibrating system compared to older controller technology. The vibrations do not come just from the handles but from various areas of the lever.

Using the Touch Sense system, developers will be able to experiment with different effects for users during gameplay instead of the standard system used by the PS2. The effects will be more powerful and intense, and should provide a better gaming experience for the user. For example, firing a gun will prompt a fast jolt from the controller, and tearing around a race track will prompt the controller to vibrate in sync with the roughness of the road surface

Sony first admitted that it would consider changing the SIXAXIS controller for the PS3 in March this year after settling an ongoing dispute with Immersion.

so they had to invent their own sort of rumble because they lost that lawsuit with nintendo. fucking stupid that the ps3 didnt come with one from the begining, reason number 56,392,291 that i still dont own a ps3. let me guess, the new controllers will cost 80 bucks?

What the hell does touch sense mean??

The case was not completely settled with that company that they got sued by thats why it was not with the PS3. Also they did not work out any details with that company as to how they were gonna try and bring back the controller. No sense in them getting sued again they got enough issues going on including being sued by other companies.

When were they sued by Nintendo?

they were not sued by nintendo for the rumble it was immersion. nintendo and microsoft both settled out of court and sony tried to fight it. That is why nintendo and xbox still feature rumble

From what I hear they will be free. When they finally do come out, you will be able to trade your existing controller straight up for a new one.

Too little, too late comes to mind...also nothing is free apart from nothing.
As for Halo3,it's one game amongst many. It's not the saviour of
the universe, just another two fingers at what's available on
competing hardware which says a lot! :D

Touch Sense translates too a new rumble setup, probably new motors that use less power and are smaller than the old ones but provide as much vibration.

The main reason this was not done at launch was because they got their ares handed to them in court or were still in court thus they could not release it then.

SOny has screwed up,MS has managed to apologize for it,Sony is smug and arrogant about...the sad thing is they will probably over come it with no change in game plan...

    M$ Douches strike again.

"Ya, when the PS3 was released, I was really mad when Sony didn't appologize for not including vibration in their controllers! They just ruined my life. They better extend my warrenty for this, and buy me a new pair of shoes while their at it."

WTF :/ Micro$oft was almost forced into an apology when they realized that 30% or more of their consoles were defective.

Ya'll be killing me with the over exaggeration with Sony. All of these companies are the same. They all have goals to get more cash some more extreme then others. So far Sony over the last few weeks in my eyes they have been trying to fix all the things they left loose since their release date. Hopefully with this controller it will enhance the game play on the games and make it a better overall experience. Now all i have left to say is all of these companies got issues they all money hungry monsters with the intent to get as much of your money no matter the strategy. But up to this moment Sony is following the same plan as M$ when they released the 360 with not hardly any good games not quite as many features available after its release and so forth. There is no need to even compare the Wii because of its price people will over look any issues unless its a extreme issue because of the price.

Lets see the WII is not to bad the 40+ pads are a bit much tho,the 360 just tried to cover up its fail rate nightmare, its prices are no worse than anyone else but then again they didn't have to remake their pad and then "re release" it at consumer exspence,do they all do it...ya but not as badly ^^

Face it between the PS3 screw ups and the total nazi style of marketing (same for the PSP) for the media machine the PS3/Sony has had as bad a tiem as the 360 over its issues.

I think what everyone is trying to say is this:

Phil Harrison, one of the execs with Sony of America, blatantly quoted that rumble was "outdated" and basically tried to bypass the issue. After getting berated for months about the PS3's shortcomings, Sony is finally doing something about it, maybe in effect, hoping, that the newer controller features will push console sales.

The one thing I need to say to that is, you would rather buy a "re release" console (elite) than a controller? even though MS have now extended their warranty what happens to those who have already got a second (or third) console?

If Sony would do that free swap then this would be an awesome idea, Im still trying to find a second controller there seems to be very little stock of them anywhere and they disappear fast. So Im waiting on this one, I agree with oofRome bit more weight and Dualshock (or Touch Sense) would make the SIXAXIS an awesome controller.

one of the reasons they said that was because during that tiem tey could not build a rumble pad even if they wanted it....well not build but sell, now that they have that issue fixed they can sale it again, how knows they have have thought they could skip it.

I hope the wii can get a rumble feature soemtiem soon that would be neat :P

The elite is not such a bad deal its badly priced tho at least 30 to much(its over 450 and only have HDMI and anew HD MS should be slaped), also the elite is not a "re release" console all it really has is HDMI and thats not oh so important as long as you have DVI or component, the Elite is more a repacked deal to sale to hard core fans and HDef hobbyists not to the "common" buyer hell the PS3 is the same int hat respect,it was not made for the common player/buyer not at that prices tag.

Now spending any extra money to have your 5th 360 replaced ya thats bad much more than the Version 2 controllers that any system has had, however controller prices have hit 50+ and thats whats so damn stupid abotu it recoup your losses elsewhere dcks ><

    *head desk*
I cant get a WII till Xmas ;_; so much for getting MP3 at launch >>

Hell I am wishing for customizable controls in these new systems running a system config to remap out a controller is nothing and they want nothing to do with it hell I would even buy a control device that elts me remap my buttons and stuff....but no they don't offer it they would rather have hackers and 4th party peripherals makers make their systems more custmizable...

speaking of control I got Halo 2 to work on XP it dose play better than the Xbox 2 version :X

If the Touch Sense "makes no sense" to you then a suggest you re-read the article, it makes it very clear what it is/does.

[/quote]Well tilt and play jokes aside, this rumble enable pad is coming a bit tardty to the party, but I guess its not so new how long in the PSX life until the dual shock sprung up 2 or 4 years?

One could say this is like the Xbox's S pad but its more a small variant of the official pad that was...official LOL, not a do over, this is a do over and its annoying and it just adds to the ill rep sony has gained of late.

I been keeping score MS has 2 or 3 marks agisnt it,BWC,Disc eating and now the fail rate, the PS3 has like 5 or 7(at least they are tryign to support BWC so I will give them a pass on it for now)
