Update: The Pirate Bay does not get reclassified

Last week it was reported that Swedish police were trying to get the infamous torrent tracker The Pirate Bay reclassified as a "child pornography" site so that it would be filtered by Swedish ISPs.

The latest TPB blog however, seems to show that the police have laid off their threat, at least for the time being. There is a quote from an unnamed source that says "The child porn filter list distributed this week will NOT contain the pirate bay." It is not completely known whether the quote is direct from Swedish police or other sources.



The blog also questioned the motivation behind the police's actions.

"They claim that their work has been successful when trying to rid the Internet of child porn. I want to point out that still to this day, the police has not given us one single hint on what content on the site has been containing child porn - and the things we have filtered out has been proven not to be child porn either. So wtf? What is this content their talking about?"

TPB also added that they are contemplating filing a lawsuit for slander and other charges over the police's actions.

"We are currently thinking about filing charges against the responsible police officer for slander or official misconduct, and we will continue to investigate the actions they have taken."

  Torrent sites with porn are just horrible. Full of adds and viruses.
  
  But child porn? One thing, why would you put something like that on a popular public torrent site, completely open to everyone including the police and so on, and why wouldn't that site take that kind of stuff off to save their own a$$es? As if being a torrent site in general alone wasn't enough for them :S

They didnt have child porn....the gov was trying to classify the site as a child porn site so isp's would can it....didnt work!

  Maybe they'll eventually realize that those porn sites also are major distributors of pirated software too! When is the last time that you visited one of those places, which didn't also want you to download adware for their X rated material, before you could get a crack, keygen or a serial number from them? Many are that way now...

  methinks these cops need more coffee and donuts, or just maybe more coffee!! Because no one with a brain would consider pirate bay a child porn site or contain any form of child porn whatsoever!

Someone would surely insist that they investigate the origins of the post. After all, a torrent site that inadvertently hosts child porn is nowhere near as bad as someone who actually posts it (in my opinion, at least). So what happens when the cops scratch their heads and tell the wondering public that they couldn't dig up anything on the cp poster? Surely, someone would get suspicious.
