Live Earth continues to set records

Coverage of Live Earth, which already broke the previous record for delivering Streaming media, has continued to be a money maker for MSN, who owns the rights for 90 days.

In total, Live Earth on MSN had delivered 30 million live and on-demand streams through Monday morning. During the live series of concerts, which lasted from Friday night at 9 p.m. EST through 11 p.m. EST time on Saturday, the site streamed 15 million clips.



According to MSN officials, usage peaked on Saturday afternoon, when 237,000 users streamed footage all at once, despite warm, sunny weather throughout much of the country. MSN executives claim that figure represents a record concurrent streaming audience for an entertainment event (CBS’ online streaming of the NCAA college basketball tournament did exceed that number in 2006).

Rob Bennett, general manager, MSN entertainment and video said that Live Earth had resulted in few technical glitches, despite the heavy volume. Unlike CBS, which deliberately capped the number of users who could tune in to see live college games during March Madness, MSN never considered placing limits on Live Earth.

Besides delivering a major worldwide audience, MSN likely provided its advertisers (and millions of eco-conscious consumers) with plenty to smile about. Chevy and Philips were global sponsors of Live Earth, while Microsoft’s own Zune was a major sponsor in the U.S.

  Makes me chuckle, Because no one could be bothered to actually watch it while it was going out live. Maybe they all decided to conserve energy by switching off their TV's

  I don't have TV service so my only option was to watch it online. Besides, the new trend is for the media to submit to the viewer's schedule, not the other way around.

  As much as I'm all for saving the Earth and going green
  I can't help but think that all this won't make a dent to
  it's future.
  The dinosaurs weren't burning the forests and using cfc deodorants
  so why did they die out in an ice-age?
  Noah built the Ark to save a load of people and animals when
  THE BIG FLOOD happened but there wern't many cars or planes
  choking up the atmos.
  Scientists are saying it's all our fault, and although I do agree
  that humans have damaged a lot of the Earths resources I don't believe we are totaly at fault and the Earth is changing regardless
  of our actions.
  The UK was once a part of France and the Earth decided to seperate us
  by water and I don't think anybody was the cause of that.
  There's a lot more to the universe than what we know.The time that people have been on this planet measuring these changes is a mere blip to how the Earth has changed.Why don't people see that the Earth
  is a constant changing force and man has no say in it's direction.

  I remember back in the early 80's they said the world was cooling. Now they claim it's heating up. :D
  It's really just their opinion with no solid proof. We've only been recording temps for about 150 years. That's a very small snapshot of time considering this old world has been here thousands of years.
  Anyway, when the state of Florida is under water in 2050, then I'll believe it. Until then, I continue my life as these people have continued theirs.
  Madonna on guitar reminded me of the "Air Guitar" competition.
  It's a little ironic that they made such a huge carbon foot print to travel the world with this show. Don't ya think?

  People like me are just sceptical of theoretical claims
  made by scientists who are paid to make these claims otherwise they
  wouldn't get their grants.
  You have to go beyond what they are saying and try to look at why they are saying it.The world is dictated to you and it's upto you
  to decide what is true and what isn't.You carry on believing what they tell you on television and in the paper just like all the other
  sheep on the planet but I happen to be an individual who sometimes
  see's holes in certain truths.

  the dinosaurs where pretty much certainly killed by radiation poisoning caused by a huge meteor, this would have the same effect on the world now

  you are right that the increasing carbon in the air is mainly due to nature (small eruptions, forrest fires in Australia) but around one 5th of that amount on top is what we add. my point is that the world is used to changing conditions but at its own rate not ours
  
  as for that waffle of scientists making claims to get there grants, goverments scientists arnt really granted they have a job to do and a budget in which to do, even if this was true in America, scientist world wide are saying the same thing CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL ands its happening now

  Actualy dinosaurs farted too much methane which burnt a hole in the ozone layer which caused a severe ice age.I know this because I traveled in the Tardis to observe the event.
  That meteor impact was there way before the dinosaurs existed and was caused by a particle of anti-matter colliding with dark matter which caused a rift in the time-space continuum and wiped half of the advanced Grey alien race that were having a holidays there.

  Despite the wild popularity of their number one hit “Man Is Responsible for Global Warming,” I’m still not wowed by the music of Al Gore and his backup band, The Live Earth Hystericals. All their songs sound the same, and all their lyrics always reduce to the same one hook that’s also the title of their one hit song.
  
  But, great ideas, like great music, can stand the test of time. And they invite inquiry, investigation, dialogue, and discussion. Advocates of great ideas—true ideas—are not afraid of engaging in debate, especially when they have the arguments and the evidence at the ready—in the bullpen if you will.
  
  Just like when I pitched in the big leagues: When you have your good stuff, you’re told to attack the hitters. When you don’t, you try to trick ’em for as long as you can, and just pray they hit the ball right at people. You can boast all you want, but the moment you step on that mound and start throwing the ball, everybody on that field is going to know pretty soon whether you’ve got your good stuff that night or not. You can trick major league hitters for only so long and then there’s nowhere to hide. I should know. Too often in my career I was the guy trying to trick ’em.
  
  By repeating the mantra “the debate is over,” when thoughtful observers know it isn’t, the Hystericals are screaming one thing loud and clear for the whole world to hear: “We don’t have the science to back us up.” Or, to continue the baseball metaphor, “We don’t have our good stuff, and there’s no one in the bullpen.”
  
  No. The debate is not over.
  
  Here are three, simple, easy-to-remember questions you can ask those who sing along with Algore and the Live Earth Hystericals.
  
  1) Why is it getting hotter on Mars without any SUVs and private jets emitting carbon dioxide? If it’s the sun that’s responsible for the warming on Mars, then maybe it’s also responsible for the warming of the Earth.
  
  2) How do the alarmists adequately explain past warming and cooling cycles that started long before the introduction of the first internal combustion engine? There was a Medieval Warm Period from 900-1300 and then a Little Ice Age from about 1500-1800. By simply looking at the covers of our most popular periodicals over the past century, these cycles are clearly evident. We worried about a coming Ice Age from 1895 to 1930, then it was the threat of global warming from the 1930s to the 1960s, followed by another imminent Ice Age during the 1970s, and now we’re back to the threat of global warming again. Our great grandkids will likely have to worry about another Ice Age. There’s just no such thing as our planet’s “ideal temperature.” Average surface temperatures are constantly in flux, up or down about a few tenths of a degree every year. These cycles are normal.
  
  3) If man is solely responsible for the increased levels of CO2, then how do you explain the Ordovician Period, 440 million years ago, when the CO2 level was 16 times higher than today? Or, the Cretaceous Period, 140 million years ago, when dinosaurs ruled the Earth and CO2 was 8 times higher? Or, the CO2 levels from 95 million years ago which were about the same as levels today? How can these levels be changing long before the appearance of man?
  
  Despite what they claim, no, the debate is not over. Not by a long shot.
  
  But, it has never really been about the science anyway. It was, has been, and continues to be all about the money. Who needs to pay it, who collects it; who redistributes it.
  
  Put it this way. Al Gore views capitalism the same way other liberals view tobacco. He doesn’t want to outlaw it, he just wants to tax it. He doesn’t want to kill the Golden Goose, he just wants more of the eggs for himself and his big government cause.
  
  But that’s a topic for another column.

  When it comes to TV shows, it seems that the networks HATE the whole DVR thing claiming no viewership (Jericho), but here they are patting themselves on the back with people watching this on their own time.
