ShowStash sued by MPAA

In June, the MPAA sued both YouTVpc.com and Peekvid.com even though neither site actually hosts any of the copyrighted material on its servers. Yesterday, the MPAA announced they had filed a similar lawsuit, this time against ShowStash.com, and for the same reasons.

The site indexes copyrighted material into categories such as Movies, TV shows, Anime and Cartoons. The latest releases are readily available at ShowStash just as they were at Peekvid and YouTvpc.

“ShowStash is a one-stop-shop for copyright infringement and the operators’ sole purpose is to disseminate content that has been illegally reproduced and distributed,” said John Malcolm, Executive Vice President and Director of Worldwide Anti-Piracy Operations for the MPAA. “Sites like ShowStash are breaking the law and our goal is to put these movie theft ‘entrepreneurs’ out of business for good.”

If it doesn't provide you with ANY copyrighted data then it isn't a one-stop-shop. Sounds to me like ShowStash simply pointed you around the web to get the files. Similar to a search engine.
  
  Whats next? MPAA/RIAA sues Google for giving people with the knowledge on its workings the ability to quickly find and download "Illegal" content? I would see the MPAA/RIAA commanding the highest courts to filter the internet in America and abroad so that "Illegal" content cannot be downloaded or even searched for.
  
  I love how much money, time and effort is spent on chasing pirates instead of the real bad guys that distribute child pr0n and other highly illegal and offensive material.
  
  Next thing you know the MPAA/RIAA is going to try and get piracy punishable by the death penalty in America for pirating films or music.
  
  Maybe not that much punishment but just a step lower, life in prison without parole, due to the hope that no-one with brains would clearly see it as "Crude and Unusual Punishment".

  The MPAA is getting out of control. They're suing everyone and their dog. Why doesn't the courts just give them complete control over the internet and get it over with.

  They need to step back and take a look at how much money they are wasting on these frivolous lawsuits. Take that money and redirect it - to make a better product.

  lol last i checked you can still search both of those sites and find plenty of torrents...
  mpaa know they cant really stop it...but they have to make it look like there doing something..

  ISOhunt dose not log,and they always filtered IP/CP content when asked(not threaten) they have joined with file rights to try log "copyrighted" filenames and remove them from their trackers

  While Torrentspy has pretty much sold out by choosing to give up user data and ips than to close down.
  
  Isohunt is tryign to find a middle ground.
