Lucky and Flo are at it again

Lucky and Flo, the two trained dogs infamous for helping to bust pirates have been credited with another significant counterfeit disc piracy bust in Malaysia.

The dogs, which are trained to sniff out pirated optical discs, have been credited with helping break many large piracy rings, but have recently been out of commission after a bounty was placed on their heads by a Malaysian piracy group not happy with the work the dogs had been doing.



In the latest victory against piracy, the dogs helped find a factory in which MPAA and Ministry of Domestic Trade & Consumer Affairs officials seized 18,000 bootleg movies including some very new ones such as the Transformers and The Simpsons Movie. Officials said 4 suspects were arrested as well. Apparently, in an effort to thwart the dogs, the factory was packed with 300 bags of fertilizer to mask the smell of the discs.

"Lucky and Flo have done it once again. Their deployment in Malaysia has been a great success. And this is only because the MDTCA has and continues to show tremendous leadership in tackling the piracy problem" said Mike Ellis, Senior Vice President and Regional Director, Asia-Pacific for the MPAA. "The Malaysian government's aggressive enforcement measures send a clear message that piracy will not be tolerated. We therefore remain fully committed to support them in their operations."

  Good. go for the real pirates that make money selling the stuff that others make. ive copyed materails before but i credeted the people that entertain us. not once have i ever asked for money to share somthing i like with somebody else.

  Hell,Yea! Im serious. and about the placing a bounty on the dogs goes to show how ball less these pirates are. besides the point these specific may- whatever pirates are stuped. if you get caught in a bulding buy a cruse ship or a small Inland to make pirated movies.

  to my knowledge they just have a sensitivity to cd's in general so it's only for finding large stashes of cd's within a place that the police have warranted or something

The trainers then look at the material and see if its pirated material or just a large DVD collection.

  Would appear to me that the best place to mask smell is to remove it completely, everyone knows dogs cant follow scent in water, why note hide stock not in a sealed container held inside a fluid filled chamber, 0 air escape, 0 smell.
  
  Sort of like one barrel suspended in a larger one, you would only need to remove the inner container, this could then only be opened in a sealed process room which would be fitted with a 3 stage carbon filter and possibly an ozone generation chamber for good measure.
  
  For storage they can then be re-sealed in that room and then returned to underwater storage, hell drop a load of dead shrimp on the top and no one would ever know.
  
  Surely large amounts of fertlisers just going to make every one there ill if nothing else.
  
  Anyway, im glad to see lucky and flo have made it this far, looks like the malasian bounty hunters are not as good at their jobs as the disk copiers.

  What makes more sense?
  Overcharge for a product that is sold cheaply in the streets, spend millions of TAXPAYER money to thwart the street selling, have a whole underground of pirating etc
  OR CHARGE A REASONABLE PRICE FOR YOUR GOODS!

  rnr1995, you logic is sinsable but beside the point you see the people of country's that cant even afford a pair of shoes let alone a fifteen dolor movie. the pirates know this and use it to there advantage. but still id like to wacth a movie before i buy it and if its good ill buy the real deal. but some movie's when they show the advertizement clips on tv. and the only good part is the advertize ment clips why would i buy that. like the simpsons movie funny but it only last 1 hour. they tell you that at the beggining of the movie. sigh... the point im making is when people dont have the money the buy the cheapest alternative they can find.

The particles that a nose picks up would still float in the air, like your ability to smell food cooking from across a house. It would take several days for the smell to dissipate enough that the dogs couldn't track it. Why do you think they use blood hounds to find people when they get lost in a swamp? If the water killed the smell then there would be nothing that could be done for lost people.

  Yes, residual smell would be around for days, which is why i said to use exahust scrubbers and ozone generators, once the containers were sealed they would then be submerged in water tanks. Then they could then be transported anywhere without a chance of the smell escaping.
  
  Ozone will knock out any smell in minutes.
  
  Plus i guess that in the night when the area was devoid of people you could also leave an ozone gen going to remove any other smells.

  That would work but if they have leads and find something like that next to a dock or something to hide the CDs it would look really suspicous.

  I have to say i am for the dogs doin this. Well done. On the other hand they are not going to stop the racket. Both Transformers and The Simpson's Movies are already out on the net.
