Sony BMG to begin supporting Dolby TrueHD on Blu-ray music titles
Sony BMG has finally begun support for Dolby TrueHD on their Blu-ray music titles, starting with "Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds: Live at Radio City".

The disc, which is already a huge hit in standard def, will be released on Blu-ray on September 4th. The release will be Sony BMG's first ever support for the TrueHD audio on a music title.

The show was filmed with nine HD cameras and therefore is presented in full 1080p/24fps video. The audio will be available in uncompressed PCM 5.1 Surround as well as Dolby TrueHD for the first time ever.

Nice! I bet it sounds really sweet with the right equipment. DVD Audio never really took off. This would really help sell some bluray players. I guess they must record this from a new source. Can't see how you turn older recordings into true HD. Maybe like movies, scanning the original negatives.

I am guessing they can take HD footage and although it would degrade it quite a bit, create something close to SD for DVDs.

Well with over 100 Blu-ray movie having only vanilla 'Dolby Digital' as the primary audio it's about time they upped their game.
