Another Pirate Bay child porn investigation

Another investigation has been launched into the alleged trade of child pornography by users of The Pirate Bay website. However, it is important to note that prosecutor Cathrine Rudström told Swedish news site The Local that, "The Pirate Bay are not suspects." Instead the police are hoping the popular BitTorrent tracker will co-operate with the investigation and hand over IP address info for the traders.

While some at the Pirate Bay were aware of the content being traded for about two weeks, a moderator Himod, refused to remove it on the site's forum. "I don't give a shit if you folks are upset," he said. "Me and the other moderators job are NOT to have an opinion about if it is immoral or not."



While the Pirate Bay administration have said that such material would be removed as fast as possible on notification, which did happen a few times, the site also boasts a no-censor policy and argues that it is impossible to track 600,000 torrents.

Sites like The Pirate Bay, which completely despise the idea of censorship, are easily abused services when it comes to this kind of material.

  Although I agree with the no-censorship policy of TPB, I do also agree that the mentioned content should be removed immediately. One thing I do like is the fact that the Pirate Bay isn't the suspect in this situation, the police realise that TPB and its Admin's/Mods do not control what people upload and so they are not held responsible it.
  
  However, I do think that TPB should at the ever least just delete the pr0n. If they don't hand over the IPs of the people that upload that is not cool but at least they should delete it so it can't get passed around.

  Sounds Fishy to me!!!Could be a setup for future torrent sites to give over its IP addresses and personal information,and shut down torrent sites.If any moderator was aware of the content and failed to act on it.Shame on him or her and should be accountable!!!

  I would just delete the kiddie porn and be done with the issue. No need to become a snitch, unless some pervert is repeatedly posting his garbage on the Pirate Bay. Then, providing their IPs to the police is the best solution; if they refuse to get lost and stop their illegal activities. Most of us don't wanna get involved with these sickos...

  Its rather ironic that some of these countries like Holland, Sweden, Germany and the like are coming down with guns blazing on cp traders..when they in fact sold it legally in the 70s and 80s. Amsterdam had it up to their ears in the 70s. You could go to any newsstand and see it sold right next to the mainstream porn. Not so much as a peep out of any politicians at all

  Child Porn is one of them. I think the site should have a written policy on something as on this. Child Porn is in most peoples eyes immoral and sickening, especially if u have children of your own.
  
  Those who think child porn is okay have their own problems. Either way, i would hope that such a policy would be similar to what cousinkix mentions above.
  
  Its not in the sites best interest to stand off to the side and not comment or take any action accept to blame others. Its called "Helping".

  And The moderators won't do anything about it, after knowing about it for 2 weeks?
  Well all I can say is I hope "the pirate bay" goes do forever.
  Because as far as I concerned if you know about it and do nothing about it, then your part of the problem.

  Deleting the child porn is probably the smartest thing they could do. But I am unsure of how difficult it would be to basically police the entire torrent tracker for child porn. The idea of turning over IPs sounds fine and is liked by the ears. But the brain can tell you, as stated before, that if The Pirate Bay goes handing out IPs now when it's a child porn crime, then imagine what it will be like when they are asked for it later for some piracy crime bullshit? They'll basically be expected to, and it's just really complicated. Plus, if they hand over anything now, users could get really angry, and pretty much start a riot.
  
  At this point, sitting on the sidelines is probably the best thing they could do.

  But the part that makes me even more angry about this is that a moderator knew this was going on for 2 weeks did'nt do a damm thing about it.

  Ok.. I usually make smartass replies and agianst law enforcement trying to obtain info on people pirating material.. BUT when it comes to child porn, Gloves are off.. If Pirate Bay cant comply and take the crap off and give the name of those downloading the crap, than I hope they get hit with every amount of MPAA,LEGAL,ETC,ETC power available.....Shut em down.. Some people may not give a crap, but from now on I will no longer use Pirate Bay as one of my torrent sites... I think everyone should stop using them.

They will us this as an excuse to push the issue of censorship. They will use it to try and get info on those using the net for various reasons. Its the same as Lincoln using slavery as excuse to go to war with the south. Lincoln didnt give a rats ass about slavery, it was just an excuse. Bush doesnt give a rats ass about "the poeple" in the Middle East. He sent us to war with Iraq to dip his hands in oil and to boast his ego. He sent us to Afghanistan to dip his hands in the profits of Pharmaceutical Companies. Alot of people dont know that Afghanistan supplies 90% of the worlds Opium. Anyways I didnt mean to get off the subject, just wanted to show examples of how governments use these "excuses"....

  I personally know of several torrent sites that do infact bann certain content on thier sites, Kidde porn being #1 on their list,
  They will in fact warn a member the first time ( a lot of peeps upload without ever checking what they upload) and delete said upload, in some instances depending on the individual their site priviliges are revoked, while they are not trying to "police" anybody ..they feel its thier site and as such they have a right to say what goes and what does not on thier sites which they maintain and pay for, which I agree with, as far as giving information to the feds pertaining to an individual, ie: ip etc.. that should be decided on a individual basis and I'll try to explain my thoughts there:
  you have a peep uploading "commercial" kidde porn that is legaly allowed in certain areas of the world...let the gov get thier own info..
  you have a guy uploading homemade or "non-commercial" kidde porn and they ask for the info...I would proabably give it to them
  
  For my own self I think pedophiles are the lowest scum of the earth
  
  I applaud PB for thier stance against censorship of any kind but kidde porn should be deleted world wide... imho

  PeaceI tend to agree with u there. I also say that they should remove child porn videos not porn in general which is 18-21 age group but child porn is not a thing that tpb should be allowing.

  it is totally immoral and the lowest of the low, TPB should delete as soon as they are aware of it and actively help pursue the uploaders of this stuff, they will do their cause no good whatsoever by turning a blind eye,it has nothing to do with censorship..hang the paedo's
