Nintendo promises large Wii supply for holiday season in North America

Nintendo will offer an "unprecedented" supply of Wii units to North America this holiday season, according to President and Chief Operating Officer of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime. Fils-Aime told the San Jose Mercury News that the amount of units will be "substantially more than the launch, substantially more than has been seen to date." Nintendo has struggled to keep up with demand ever since launch.

It's a good time for Nintendo to be making promises like this after NPD reported the company sold a very strong 403,600 Wii consoles in August, easily topping the charts for gaming hardware. Not only is Fils-Aime confident the company will keep its promise, he warns that it will be tough anyway to get a Wii console during the holiday season.



He said that Nintendo does not take the success of Wii lightly and realizes it is fighting a long term battle, but he was not concerned with the recent price changes from PS3 and Xbox 360. "In terms of our competitors, what we continue to see is that 360 and PS3 essentially trade share as they alternate on price reductions. But, really, none of that is impacting our business," he said.

  GO WII I have one (well my wife) but it is great if you are not hardcore gaming & my wife isn't i am a little different on the other hand! but It seems like someone wants to sell what they can not just limit there production for longer sales!
  It took me 2-3 days & about 4-5 ours calling around to get 1 store that had a Wii in stock when we got it!

  Every console has its ups and downs and the same holds true with every game. If liking a variety of consoles is a statement about maturity to you, then you may want to rethink what it is you stand for. A TRUE, HARDCORE GAMER will want to have a large number of consoles under his command as well as a massive number of games. Why? Because I know that I for one will respect someone more if I come up to them and ask, "What did you think of the new Zelda for Wii?" and they answer something like, "Well the Game Play experience with a Wii has a lot of cool features, but the graphics were a bit lacking. Still though, its nice to see a plot diversion from the last few Zelda releases..."
  
  A gamer who answers that way 1) Knows what he's talking about 2) Is willing to try new things 3) Probably has either read about or played most any game I can ask about 4) Probably has multiple consoles and 5) Is actually passionate about the game he is playing. A True Gamer does not limit himself by brand name. I'll liken this to football... A fan may stop cheering if his team stops winning, but the player goes to whatever team he is sent, and is happy to be there. So untill you're ready to broaden your horizons and get down out of the bleachers, I for one don't want to hear you critize anyone. A player who limits themselves will answer the question I asked above similar to this, "Noob, the PlayStation 3 is where all the real gamming is, the Wii is for losers."

  Pros: A brand-new, interactive game play experience using state-of-the-art technology. A small, compact design which seems fail-safe against overheating. Cross-platforming technology allows it to physically read from Gamecube games, and emulate from other consoles via its online store. A lot of game releases. Works with most every TV. EXTREMELY AFFORDABLE IN BOTH CONSOLE AND GAMES! Internal WiFi.
  Cons: Lower graphics than all the other contenters of its generation. Having to deal with idiots all day who limit themselves by their expectations of a Wii.
  
  X-Box 360:
  Pros: A fun-to-mod system with awesome gameplay (both on and offline) and extremely nice graphics. A lot of game releases, and a good warranty service compared to the last generation release.
  Cons: Its louder than hell and can come with some manufacturer defects in terms of heatsinks and whatnot. Also the games can be a shade expensive.
  
  PS3:
  Pros: A sleek looking system with a quite design. An Insane ammount of game releases. BluRay Disk Player. BlueTooth Connectivity. Not as noturious for over-heating...
  Cons: IS EXPENSIVE AS HELL. Requires you to purchase a TV of 1080i or better to actually enjoy the BluRay. BluRay technology, because of the average american TV set, is not in a very high demand. Games will cost you a small mortage each trip to the store. The BlueTooth connectivity is nice, but serves limited processes at this time.
  
  So, baring all of that in mind, the only thing a real gammer can do is: HAVE ALL THREE. Duh. I've said it before and I'll say it again, a TRUE gammer won't limit themselves. I've got an NES set up next to my 360, and I build custom computers every chance I get. Stop belittling each other, for the love of Mario, and get over it. If you haven't tried something for at least a week - keep your limited opinion to yourself.

  Only good game for the Wii will be Mario Galaxy..other than that where are all the games that make you happy to be a Wii owner. The games look like crap..and it won't push "SOFTWARE" sales. You can sell millions and millions of consoles but if the hardware can't generate software sales then it's a failure regardless. This Wii hype gimicky thing will be over soon just like Sony's PS3 fad. 360 rules PS3 drools!!

Did you fail, in your middle schooler mentality, to ready what I last posted? Or the time it was quoted? No? Perapes the words were too advanced for someone who still uses the "rules and drools" comparison. There are actually a ton of Wii games that run in nice graphics, and by saying the only good one will be Mario Galaxy, you're just proving my point that far too many consumers are sitting around doing EXACTLY what the big company's tell them to. I say "Nintendo" you think "Mario." Why? Because you limit yourself. Yes, Mario is awesome, but you are speaking about something when you honestly have no idea what you're talking about.
  
  You want to see the Wii put forth some graphics? Fine, go ahead and play all of these and then you'll see what makes the Wii one of the most revered consoles ever produced:
  Excite Truck - Stunning Graphics, Wii-Controller Fun
  Rayman Raving Rabbids - A nice ice-breaker when first getting a Wii.
  The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - A simply awesome game. A little slow at first, but the controls are awesome. If you can't get into long ranging enemies with your bow, while going through the motions with your wiimote, then something is wrong with you.
  
  Those are just a few good games, but the Wii has many more. The 360 is, despite being loud as hell and easily over heated, a good console, just as the Wii and PS3, are good consoles.
  
  But if none of that gets you, go find a friend who has a wii and convince them to rent Trauma Center: Second Opinion. Want a game with a lot of pressure to not screw up, with TC:SO you're a doctor and will soon find yourself performing things like open-heart surgery, all while trying tediously to perfect your hand-eye coordination and use of the WiiMote.
  
  So AGAIN, they're all good consoles, each with thier own ups and downs. Don't be an idiot and presume that you know what you're talking about untill you've tried it. Also, thousands of game consoles don't bother to push software sales, and were huge, phenominal hits. Some of the most popular games for PS2 and X-Box, are not actually available for PC. Still not convinced? Find me 10 examples of when the Nintendo 64 increased software sales - you can't do it. Yet lets all remember how amazingly popular the N64 was (and to the TRUE Gamers who don't limit themselves, still is).
  
  All the consoles of this generation are good, and you should all just be happy about that. If you want to go around pointing out flaws in other people's crap, you may as well start with your own.
