Sony plans European PS3 price cuts for holidays

Sony plans European PS3 price cuts for holidays
According to the newspaper Les Echos, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) will announce lower prices for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) home entertainment console ahead of the holiday season, in an effort to boost sales. The report claimed that the company will offer price drops between €100 and €200, although the latter rate more-so refers to the availability of the 40GB PS3 model, which would sell for €399.

The 60GB version of the PS3 console, the most expensive in the territory, would see a price cut of up to €100, according to the report. A Sony spokesman declined to confirm the price cut details from the report, but did say that an important announcement for Europe was "imminent."

In the United States, Sony replaced the 60GB PS3 model with an 80GB model (with some extra upgrades) for the same price. The company is hoping to offer a more attractive price tag for consumers over the holiday season to ramp up competition with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's market-leading Wii console.

I would like to see the 40GB model at 350, the 60 or 80 GB unit really needs to be under 600USD....

I'd consider getting one if there were more tempting games that weren't multi format, and they wasn't made by foxconn in their slave labour sweat shops.

    Killzone 1 killed Halo....LMAO!
I love listening to Sony sheep convincing themselves that games that are not even out yet are eclipsing titles that are actualy available with good reviews.
Bunch of delusional self-humiliating Sony zealots...don't you just love 'em.

It won't take much to out due Halo 3, its single player campaign is weak. over all its abotu as good as halo 2 witch is sad since Halo 2 itself was weak, sure the MP side was good but thats what they have dumbed Halo down to a MP game with a ok SP side, Halo 1 is still the best Halo.

Sales aside the only thing you need to beat halo is a fun solid SP game with lots of MP options, Kill zone "might" can out due Halo 3.

Sadly I think Halo 3/Bishock/Jericho are the pencil of new FPSs ,the reason its sad the depth in level design,design/gamepaly is weak to what it was.

    @ ZippyDSM

just as films are getting worse so are the games unfortunately zippy. most game suck now and rely on visuals to sell them, but its the repetitive linear rubbish that's churned out by the large studios that sucks the most, hence the wii is dominate.

Zelda TWP is not that great in comaprsion nintendo is decaying at the same rate as the rest however they started out a bit higher and they seem to cling to qaulty a bit more than the rest..

But there is no denying that quality has gone to hell and no one seems to give a damn, bioshock is half the game it could have been Halo 3 is more like Halo 2....WTF.... gaming is now as bad as hollywood only its 60$ a pop and not 20 ><

do you know that foxconn is making the ps3 now which is why they were able to cut costs. foxconn were exposed for poor working condition slave labour, sweatshop style but were allowed to get away with it in their country because it was within their law. they outsourced workers from far away villages so the employees were forced to live at the factory complex where they only earned $50 per month but only received $25, after the $25 per month was taken out of their wages for bed and board. the daily mail in the uk had a 2 page spread of photographs and first hand accounts from the factory which to a developed country is nothing more than slave labour, so everyone enjoy your cheap ps3's!
