BREIN on verge of shutting down many large torrent trackers

BREIN on verge of shutting down many large torrent trackers
The infamous Dutch anti-piracy group BREIN has now gotten the web host LeaseWeb to take down several more torrent trackers, and this time the names are very recognizable.

The ISP has said it is determined to fight BREIN in court but for now they have no other option than to take the sites down when they are ordered to do so.

Working off their successful court case against LeaseWeb in an Amsterdam court where the ISP was forced to shut down everlasting.nu and hand over the owner's personal details, BREIN seems intent on taking down every torrent site hosted by Leaseweb.

In an email written by Leasweb to one of the sites, the host says this, “In a recent case at the Amsterdam District Court, LeaseWeb was ordered to take down such sites. Although LeaseWeb has filed an appeal and will keep fighting for its client’s rights up to the highest court, LeaseWeb regrettably has no choice but to obey the court order and take down sites that list (bittorrent/edonkey) files.”

For those interested in what sites are hosted by LeaseWeb, here is a list, with some very noticeable names. btjunkie.org, seedpeer.com, torrentleech.org, mybittorrent.com, btmon.com, sumotorrent.com, what.CD, waffles.fm, hdbits.org, bitenova.nl, torrentportal.com, monova.org, not to mention dozens more smaller sites.

For now however, not all of these sites have received the shutdown notices from Leaseweb. It seems the BREIN is more intent on taking down sites that run a torrent tracker, in the same way that the recently taken down Demonoid did, first.

The web host had this to say to all those sites whcih hae already recieved an email. “LeaseWeb has filed an appeal and will keep fighting for its client’s privacy and right of freedom of expression up to the highest court.”

bleeping dirty *bleep*, where am I gonna get all my porn/games etc. if they keep shutting down these sites?

There aren't many thing I really hate, but BREIN is most certainly one of them. As somebody who lives in Holland, I appologize for my these bastards from my country. May something terrible happen to them!

Luckily I don't use any of the named torrent-sites. The larger ones like Pirate Bay, Mininova and Newtorrents are still untouched (and may even be untouchable for the small dicked BREIN). But it's only a matter of time when some other really big organisation puts the thumbscrews on the torrent-community. I was really sad to see Demonoid go offline (again), but I'm affraid that's only the beginning.

    Download while you can!

Is it just a coincidence that the bad guy in Half-Life 2 is named Dr. Brein? I think not!

BREIN, CRIA, MPAA, all have tech workers that work for them. None of them are pro piracy, the pro piracy tech's learned everything they no home school style. Piracy techs/hackers are much better and smarter. they have access to less computing strength which makes then intelligent because they have to work there way's out of cramped situations. Eventually the torrent sites instead of blocking and moving on will strike back, attack the ani-piracy with cyber terrorism, that will be a terrible day for us all

  • spydah

Damn that sucks because one of the sites i actually use is on that list. I hope all the BREIN tech/hackers get the worst case of carpal tunnel or arthritis.

Big brother is watching.. tell you what to do.. bleep microsoft.. *bleep* the big 4 and all the big public trackers.

They are forcing us underground where they have no control..

Land of the Free??.. pull the other one.. and you yanks have nobody to blame but yourselves.. "None of the above".. why don't you use it sometimes instead of being sheep??

yeah.. i live in the "land of the downtrodden subjects".. bleep that too.. Al Qaeda almost sounds good apart from the believing a pack of lies aspect...

cat among the pigeons.. well so be it.. we don't have an option.. but most of you have proportional representation and a choice of "none of the c****" so use it once in a while instead of whining on.. We don't have the option to say "none of 'em" and the next thing they will do is try to take that right away too for all-a-yas...
Spread the word.. get active (not easy for computer nerds I know.. but...) Get your networks going.. grafitti in very public places.. tell the citizens what is happening to rights and freedoms.. the revolution is here, and only WE can make it happen..

    political.. hell yeah..

*bleep* bush.. bleep t6he cartel and bleep those who are elected to represent YOU.. NOT BIG BUSINESS or the USA!!!

now wait for me being told off for use of "revolutionary/and/or foul language or sentiments" on a site that always bangs on about freedom of speech... see where I'm coming from??

Mind control can be subtle or blatant.. take your pick.. it's still CONTROL!!"!

Aren't trackers technically legal because all they do is track torrents and not distribute the files themselves?

    18.11.2007 22:06 #13

  • svtstang

Obviously not, proven by oink and demonoid being shut down (oink forced, demonoid chose to). I assume the legal reason is that the trackers are facilitating the sharing. Not positive by any means, but I am pretty sure they all have some sort of "donation" system in place....which makes it seem that the administrators of the sites are making profit for somebody else's work...pretty sure that does not help lol.

    edit

And what the hell does this have to do with Bush?? Seems no matter what the topic is he gets brought up. If I remember correctly, wasn't the DMCA created when Clinton was in office???

Ignorant bullbleep like that is the cause of the Holocaust.
And what makes the police think that all piracy and torrents are evil because some sick bleeps upload child porn.

    But back on topic:
This makes me sick. Seriously. The millions of dollars they are spending to shut down these "massive digital crime rings" could be used better elsewhere. And we're not costing the industries a fu**** penny. Not all people are into piracy. So deal with it. It's like eliminating a minority, you know?
I'm so glad we have the pirate party ;)

I'm kind of anxious to see what BREIN does next. If they go after the "big dogs", you know? They got Demonoid but do you think they'll ever get The Pirate Bay?

Yeah I was pretty sure that Clinton enacted the DMCA....the reason things are the way they are today. Bush has nothing to do with it, time for new material! He is by no means an Einstein and is easily distracted by bubbles and sparling lights, but this is not something he can be blamed for! As long as the media companies are sponsoring out politicians nothing will ever change, regardless the President in office.

nd yea this just sucks. has anything really been achived by the million other sites that have been shut down. its a waste of money even trying cause they will never be able to shut them all down :D

If all of you US citizens want to stop this crap from happening . . you need to STOP voting for Democrats and Republicans. There is very little difference between the two and they are making an effort to block any other party from 'upsetting their apple cart'.

What you need to do is become a member of the Libertarian Party. I have been voting Libertarian since 1976 and slowly we are making inroads towards releasing the stranglehold that the corrupt 'parties in power' have on all of us. For more general information, read the article at Wikipedia at the following link:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian_Party_(United_States)

Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness are God-given, non-revocable rights!! Let's keep them that way.

It seems lately that our sweet little t0rrent world's are all coming to an end. The only ones to blame are the large corporations who funnel money to the politicians, then the politicians have to act on it. Oh and it doesn't matter who you vote for, they all work for the same people and the same agendas.

I don't understand what basis the courts are using to force the ISP's here to shut things down and hand over the names and addresses of the website owners. Can anyone explain? Is it some copyright laws or some bullshit like that?

I agree 100%. All government officials are money hungry freaks. They all have one objective and its not the people so we all really can see where your votes have gone. What needs to be done is a collation of people need to get together and form a network outside of our current ISP and Webhosting companies and build a structure that will make them their on entity. So when they attempt to take down these things they cant penetrate that network. If i had the money to kick out i would donate a lot to it. Some kind of counter assault needs to be done to slap this corporations in the head and show them the people own them not the other way around.

I find this really strange. I have found a whole lot of Rapidshare links to files uploaded by premium account users. These links are more than - 12 months old & still very much valid. The descriptions on the referring url very clearly indicate outright piracy - no backdoor excuse of backups.

Is this German group - BREIN - in any way financially assisted by Rapidshare? It would be really interesting to find out.

Sooo by that logic that would mean that if I buy a gun and go shoot and kill someone, the store that sold me said gun or maybe even the manufacturer should be held liable as a "facilitator" of the act because the "gun" COULD or in this case WAS used to do something illeagle? Hell that applies to almost anything ever made... freakin' ridiculous..

    Sontiago,

Thats already happening here in the United States. The gun control nuts have managed to get stupid laws like this enacted. Its all a matter of control. Look at the cities that have the strictest gun control laws have the highest crime rate including murder. It will be the same with everything in your life. The government will use the excuse that it will improve your life and safety but they will exercise more control until there is no more freedom.

Only a matter of time till a new way to download stuff comes first it was Google then after that was Direct Downloads , limewire, Usenet , Then Torrents. I have a letter for MPAA & BREIN we Don't pay for "The Internet" just to be threatened by law inforcement and will proceed to download and create more ways to do it. Anyways isnt Downloading tv shows like Smallville and Digimon to movies like The Shining and Titanic is basicly the same thing as using a VCR to record even if they have DVD in store, if you gonna be worrying about little things like P2P and think your gonna stop it then you better stop dreaming!
