DivX says Merry Christmas with free DivX Pro bundle

DivX says Merry Christmas with free DivX Pro bundle
For a Limited time DivX Inc. Is giving away their DivX Pro bundle which includes the official DivX converter and DivX Pro Codec. These products add multi-processor (SMP) support for faster encoding and decoding with dual CPU or dual core CPU machines. The bundle normally costs $19.99.

When you install the software you'll be prompted for an email address to send your serial number to. Until your serial arrives you can use the 15 day trial versions of each product. Mine arrived nearly immediately.

Nobody seems to know how long this promotion will last so get yours now from the DivX download page. Instructions for downloading, installing, and requesting/entering your serial number can also be found there.

Not a huge fan either, but thought I'd give it a try on my Macbook, never used the mac edition before. And hey, free software is free software, why not give it a whirl.

I never look a gift horse in the mouth, that's what I always say. Either way this is an excellent deal, I've use there free dr.divx 2.0 to encode to divx and get near dvd quality at default settings. Recommend every one get this while it's free.

i've just downloaded the free version of Divx but when I enter the serial number they sent me it does nothing.Should I have restarted my computer before entering it?when i enter the seriel number and click on register,it wipes the number off?

    14.12.2007 03:46 #18

  • laddyboy

Entering the serial number might not work until the trial expires in 15 days. That's when the window shown in the instructions usually pops up.

  • ctop1

I already had the trial software installed so I just reinstalled overtop of it, put in the email address and continued, by the time it was done the serial number had arrived in my inbox. I copied and pasted the serial # in the box that appeared when I ran the converter, it took it and the box stayed on screen but the serial # disappeared. I closed the app and restarted it. The trial box that always appeared did not this time, so I'm guessing it took the serial entry but doesn't tell you that it was successful.

My download and install was flawless. You fellas having nowhere to put your serial number, did you open DivX Converter program? When I opened the file there was a button in the lower left corner that you press then paste the serial in the box, then your good to go. If that is not happening I don't know what to tell you. Perhaps you had the program already installed previously and registered with another serial and it just upgraded you previous version to this package. Maybe I'm nut's and I'm not really typing this because I'm having an episode.

And like Rude above I'm not new just don't have much to input, there are many more people out here more knowledgable than me with all this stuff, that's why I have SlyFox products. Press a couple of buttons and I have my backup copy to use.

    Wildrat,

Divx is a format that has failed but some still embrace it. It was intended initially for movie rental but this is where it failed miserably. It does use MPEG4 compression so if you need to compress video to be viewed on lets say an iPod it works pretty well at doing so. There are plenty of other tools to do the same thing so unless you are someone who has tons of Divx CD's or DVD's laying around or you get a Divx formatted disc from someone or from the internet then this would be good to have, otherwise I wouldn't waste my time with it.

I can't even get the email. I installed the version linked to on their page, the bundle, last night and entered my email address in the box while installing. It told me they would be sending the email to that address. It handles my internet fine, since when the install finished it loaded up the community page and upgraded the web player program to a newer version.

I've checked my mail in Thunderbird several times since and there's nothing from them. I went to the Comcast site and my box there is empty. I sure hope Comcast hasn't blocked it as spam!

    14.12.2007 12:44 #24

  • Wildrat

why not get a gmail or some other online mail service and not use comcast. If you use gmail you can also check the spam box to see if important emails are there. If you use FireFox there are extensions/add ons that will allow you to use 5 gig of space for storage. Just a suggestion.

This is great! I've been with DivX almost since the beginning, and after an eight year hiatus "away" from any comps, this is a nice "Welcome Back" Christmas gift. Thanx!

    Ahh! Got the email!

This is great. Assuming it activates okay, thanks a bunch to the DivX folks for this. I'm not a huge user of the format and so never purchased since I've mostly just used it to view a video here and there. Back when VCD was a popular format for converting video to I sometimes made DivX instead. Now that it's pretty easy to make dvd+r video dvd's I mostly do that. I don't have a DivX compatible home dvd player, so that's one good reason I do that. But it's nice that this is available, and for content I don't believe I'd ever use except for on the computer I think DivX is a great alternative still.

As far as another email address, you know I've never had more than a single address that was whatever my current ISP provided. I tend not to sign up indiscriminately to web stuff, sticking to sites I believe are viable. I've always kept spam to a minimum and never saw the need to have an alternative address.

Yes, I know what you mean about multiple email accounts. I was the same way just using my RR.com account with MailWasher to help with Spam and all that, then I decided to try Google Mail. I have been nothing but happy with it, rarely any spam, just the stuff I am signed up to receive, or my friends, both of them, plus the ability to store files on Google via FireFox. I don't even use MailWasher anymore, I did download the latest update though since I did go ahead and pay for the pro version a few years ago. Anyway, I better mention something about DivX to keep this on course. That was it.

Uh, there are/were two DIVX... the DIVX format for rentals-on-CD that failed is different than the codec DivX. They (the codec people) just used the name to make fun of the failed CD format... other than that, they have nothing in common. The DivX codec is pretty popular for compressing/sharing movies... check out DivX on wikipedia.org if you want the whole story. DivX/Xvid/H.264 make up most of my digital library, so having this free version of the drag-and-drop converter is handy.

I did not get a serial no.I was not asked to send e-mail
I use the link from After Dawn, every thing went smoothly.
I was told I was successful.
I can open everything but no further, I am presented with
a dialogue box asking for serial number.
I now went to see what every one was saying,
and found out I needed a serial no.
Could someone give me some advise, on how
I can get this serial number? or do I have to
uninstall this and start over again?
Perhaps After Dawn, should again give us
the link, Then everyone will be at the same page.
