Blockbuster sends DVD care packages to USO

Blockbuster employees are putting in extra hours at the company's Dallas headquarters. What's unusual is that instead of overtime pay they're spending their lunch hours trying to get packages out to United Service Organization (USO) centers, where they'll be distributed to U.S. servicemen.

Although Blockbuster has a long standing policy of sending movies and games to U.S. military personnel, this year seems to be busier than most. Blockbuster employee Larcine Bland said "This is the first year we've had a packing party. We've been shipping them out all week. In an effort to ensure we get them there as close to the holidays as we can, we've asked for volunteers to help us." She added, "We had a great response from employees that wanted to come and help."



Each shipment includes an assortment of genres: comedies and dramas, new releases including 'Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End' and 'The Bourne Ultimatum', as well as holiday classics like 'It's a Wonderful Life'.

  I am glad to see something like this happen. Although I won't express my stand on the war, I do support the troops, regardless of being for or against the war.
  
  Its nice to see a big company like this, even if its just the people at its headquarters, doing something small to help boost morale and offer some excitement to those out serving.

  I agree... the men and women serving the nation appreciate the support. I'm one of the ones who is lucky to be state side this holiday season. However I've been there and it really is a morale booster to have a new movie to watch. Movies have to be the best because they are an escape from reality for a short period of time.

  Despite how I feel about Blockbuster and the War, this is just a really nice gesture. Regardless of their corporate policies, it's refreshing to hear about individuals doing nice things for other people. Even if on a corporate level, it's just a marketing ploy and a way to maybe boost sales on American soil, kudos to the individual volunteers who truly want to make a difference in someones life.

  Some of the 3 million subscribers to Blockbuster’s Total Access service will see price increases to their plans beginning next week.
  
  The rental company, which has been battling rival Netflix in the DVD-by-mail business, sent e-mails to affected customers Dec. 20.
  
  Blockbuster did not say how many customers will be affected, however subscribers who were paying $17.99 a month will have a $2 increase in their subscription price and subscribers to the $24.99 plan will see a $10 increase. Subscribers to the most basic plan will see a decrease of $1.

Well done Blockbuster you maybe loosing the battle with Netflix but its good too know that you at Blockbuster know what is morally right to support our men and women that are on the front line.
