IFPI raids hundreds of Internet cafes, one arrest

During the first two weeks of January, IFPI organized 335 raids in Brazil targeted on Internet cafes. In the announcement by IFPI yesterday the mission was called a success with more than 2,000 computers seized and over one million illegal audio tracks found. However, during the operation only one arrest was made by the 600 Special Ops police officers involved.

Most of the raids were conducted in the Sao Paolo area with the help of Associacao Anti-pirateria de Cinema e Musica (APCM) - Brazil's movie and music anti-piracy lobbyists. To justify the raids on Internet cafes, the IFPI claims that 20 percent of Brazilians visit Internet cafes to download illegal content and sometimes burn the files to discs.



IFPI also considers Brazil to be one of the largest black markets for entertainment media in the world with an estimate of almost 50 percent of CDs and DVDs sold are Bootlegs.

  They are only doing this because all those losers that backed these Government officials with money during their campaign are demanding actions to be taken against the people that voted them in. The question of the year is going to be what are the people going to do about this issue. Are we going to sit back and just keep taking it or are we going to take back what rights we do have. If we all look this type stuff more closely you will see with each new gov idiot that takes the next seat more rights have been stripped with more repercussions when you demand them back.

  I wonder what the cafe owners think about this. Are these raids going to cause thousands of people to stop visiting cafes? One would think that it would have a negative impact on the cafe owners.

  Instead of fighting change they would be making billions if they just embraced it and catered to what the consumer wants. Consumers are the people who put them into power and consumers are the people who can also take it away.
  
  If you want to see REAL change then quit BUYING new crap! If you can't control yourself then buy it USED from someone else. Take away there money and you take away there power.

  If they would only put this much effort into getting rid of more serious crimes as mentioned in previous threads.
  
  It is so interesting to watch how companies can steer governments to focus on their problems and not on solving problems that would help the general population. Another reason why I think our government should be allow to accept "campaign contributions" aka bribes from companies.

Take away there money and you take away there power.this is exactly what the media industry is trying to stamp out and as with what sony have done with the game warhawk psn release is what they want for all media, they want to lock it to 1 device, and 1 licence per user for that device. digital downloads eula none transferable (not allowed to sell, lend, or even give away when you sell your device as part of the package as its locked to you)! You now purchase an empty bag so why not just download it from a torrent site like www./thepiratebay.org as you don't own that either and its cheaper! If they want to take the pi$$ simply never purchase any media from these companies!

  Frightening, when you think about it. The ifpee can now use gestapo tactics to hit internet cafes, no doubt with machine guns locked and loaded and dogs foaming at the mouth. Next thing you know the lobbyists will demand special lock down prisons for internet cafe customers. Where will this madness end?

  I heard its legal to download copyrighted material in canada just uploading it is more of a legal right(but as long as you bought it(the cd, the game) you should be able to do what you want with it, we need a more creative society improving on things already created!!!)
