American kiosks to invade Canada this year
The New Release (TNR), a Houston-based company, plans to add 1,000 of their Moviecube DVD rental kiosks in North America by the end of 2008. Specifically the kiosks are going to Canada, where they'll be installed in Loblaws grocery stores.

TNR's move was spurred, at least in part, by an influx of cash from a venture capital firm. They're second only to Redbox in the number of rental kiosks currently in service. Redbox's kiosk offerings include many found at parent company McDonald's restaurant locations.

“Expanding into Canada, where movie rental customers have shown a veracious appetite for DVD rentals, is a much anticipated move for us,” said Tim Belton, chief executive officer of TNR, in a statement.

    These guys are making a killing! This is a testimonial to their triumph. I anticipate already established firms partaking into this endeavor as well.

    I have yet to actually rent from a Kiosk, but that happpens when you live in an area that doesn't have any yet.

    I rent from a family owned - Ma and Pa video store where everyone knows me, and the covers to the movies are photo-copied. And, as long as they are in business...they will have mine.

    @badkrma
    No rent and burn discussion here - equals piracy which if you check out the rules is not allowed.

    I rent from Redbox ALL the time...renting from a kiosk is easier and less costly. Ive never had a problem with movies not working. I dont know about this MovieCube, however. And, Im glad they are going into Canada so my bf and I can watch the same movie at the same time (I am in the States) :)
