LCD sales surpass CRT during last part of 2007
Sales of LCD televisions have hit a milestone, becoming the number one television technology. In the fourth quarter of 2007, for the first time ever, more LCD TVs were sold than CRT models according to market analysts at DisplaySearch. Compared to CRT televisions, which managed a 46% market share in the 3 months of the year, LCD TVs accounted for a 47% share.

It looks like at least part of the boost came from 1080p models, which saw an increase of nearly 300% for the year, and accounted for more than 15% all LCD units sold and 60% of those with screen sizes larger than 40 inches in the last half of last year. Nearly 80 million LCDs were reportedly sold during all of last year.

I would have thought that they would have hit this milestone a year or two back now here in the UK. The only CRT screens you can pick up now easily are 14" screens.

So much for those who claim that hardly anyone wants/cares for TVs with 1080p support.

I got a DLP 61" Infocus DLP and a Samsung 61" DLP they both look good. The only problem I have with the Infocus is the lamps is way to high. DLP and LCD looked the same to me but DLP was a little brighter.

This is no surprise at all. Computer monitors are all LCD and it's a minor change to rework the manufacturing process and plants to mill out larger of an existing technology. Would not be the case if we were all using plasma computer monitors. I foresaw this over 4 years ago. Just call me Nostradamus baby, I'm good like that.

This would be expected. Tell me this, when is the last time you walked into any big department store and saw a bunch of CRT's sitten around waiting to be sold? Eh, I haven't seen any in ages. Where exactly can you purchase them? Seems like even Wal-Mart has changed their aim at selling LCD's and RP tv's.

"look honey, it said goodswipe! oh wow, that's amazing."

Are the electronics giants counting pc lcd monitors as lcd tvs? If so, this may account for the overtake of crts.

If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck!

This is what is going to happen its the natrual way of things like when CD's came and took over from cassettes etc... LCD and Plasma TV's are the way of the future and over time they become more and more afordable for all to accquire.
