Sony to begin buying LCD TV panels from Sharp
Industry sources have said that Sony is planning to begin buying LCD TV panels from its rival Sharp, possibly as soon as April of this year.

Sony is currently running an LCD panel joint venture with Samsung but this latest move should help the company "secure enough panels to meet fast-growing LCD TV demand without heavy capital investments."

Currently, Samsung and Sony compete for the highest sales in the global LCD TV market, while Sharp lags slightly behind.

Sharp is currently building the world's largest LCD panel factory and the company hopes to boost its LCD output capacity by 50 percent over the next year.

I bought a LC-42D64U, and the thing I like the most is the LCD panel. Like even when it's off it looks so great. No reflection and it looks completely smooth like a piece of paper. And it was only $1300 too. Possibly the best 1080P TV you'll get in a price range even past $2000. A very nice TV :)

Seems pretty logical. Sony entered the LCD arena (too) late (perhaps not commercially but from a R&D point of view) and Sharp has practically invented LCD technology and offer some of the best LCD screens. They just don't have the advertising power that Sony has.

well then its all good if its not a 100% sony product....wha? :P

I think we will see more main brand in breeding in the future as they fight each other and the cheaper brand names, in order to stay in biz they will buy from each other.

    We'll before this,
For the ones who didn't know Sony and Samsung worked together on the panels they are using now...
even though in all actuality Sony TV's including the XBR4/5 do not really compete with the Samsung 71 Series and up...
i don't know why they would want to work with Sharp because even though i don't like Sony i think there TV's still look a lot better than sharp...and this is coming from a person that works with these tv's on a regular basis.(supervisor at Circuit City)

Sony use Samsung panels and charge more than Samsung do. I think I would choose Samsung over Sony as far as LCD's go. However, I prefer the Pioneer plasmas over any LCD. I don't meant to harp on about it but people deserve to know that Plasma done the Pioneer way is better than any LCD at this point in time.

I do agree with you that Pioneer Plasma Kuro series are indeed a brilliant panel. I have a Sharp Aquos LC-46GD7X which has a wonderful picture but I am considering to purchase a Pioneer Kuro 50" Plasma so I can have the best of both Worlds. The statement that they are better then any LCD still remains a personal opinion and for you that is 100% accurate but the truth is that it may not be for someone else.
