i suppose they regret putting in the HD-DVD part? perhaps they made it before the wars end

Why not have the HD-DVD support?
Sounds more consumer friendly to me, unlike other companies.

You need an HDMI 1.3 output if you want to transmit the HD soundtracks bitstream to your AV receiver and you want to let the receiver do the decoding. If your player (or if your software in this case) can do the decoding, then you don't need HDMI at all.

juankerr is right, on the other hand you can't really trust commercial software for media playback. i mean, powerdvd ultra is supposed to decode these high resolution codecs too, but it resamples to lower resolution audio first(16/48), so there is no real benefit from these codecs. some say that this is fixed in the latest builds, but Cyberlink hasn't confirmed that.
so, does windvd downsamples too? that is the question...
