Xbox 360 hits 10 million sold in the US

Xbox 360 hits 10 million sold in the US
Microsoft has announced that it has moved over 10 million Xbox 360 consoles in the United States, being the first next gen console to hit that sales milestone in the States. Overall Microsoft has sold 19 million units worldwide to date.

The software giant also added that the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV has pushed Xbox Live memberships to over 12 million players worldwide.

IDC research manager Billy Pidgeon added that the service was "the largest community in the connected console games sector," and said it represented "the greatest growth opportunity in the console market."

Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices VP Don Mattrick noted, "history has shown us that the first company to reach 10 million in console sales wins the generation battle. We are uniquely positioned to set a new benchmark for the industry.”

How many wiis and ps3s have sold so far?

subtract 30% off MSs 10 your left with 7M with a good attach rate for games, the 360 stands agisint odds, the PS3 will soon toss it from the path it and the Xbox made once the industry choses it or the WII, I really think the WII will be left behind by the industry most wont make games to run on it and most will make party games for it leaving nin to fill the void.

The 360 is filled with issues it has no whereto go but down unless its overhauls itself, the PS3 seems to be the most future proof of the lot sadly..

Congratulations to 10 million units to Microsoft. I agree that Nintendo will eventually be left behind but i dont think PS3 will be leading the way. People are still buying them regardless of all the problems it has had.

I think a variant of each is most likely, the industry LOVES shiny more than it loves cheap profit, right now EA is willing to down grade for the WII it wont take much for the to not and they are not doing it with every multi port title, the WIIs effect on normal gaming is minamial at best right now casual casual and non gamers love it but that will last for so long.

So whats left to fill the real gaming void the PS3 that has full HD+ BR or the 360 thats falling apart at the seems?

It seems to me in a 3 year time spend the WII will drop to 2nd game wise the PS3 will push to the top leaving the 360 trailing by body length, the ps3 is currently trailing the 360 in 3rd place by a head, unless it gets blu ray then things might change but I do not see it.

The 360 has the best attach rate, however I beleive that ps3 sales have only be high because of the BR player sell point, not because of a gaming machine! CUrrently the game library for the ps3, isn't the best in the world, and every 'exclusive' seems to flop, and doesn't deliver! The Wii, is being bought massivly by casuals, and has a poor small library of games! Its going to turn into a party toy and that will be it!

The 360, whilst having a high fail rate (on my second, bought at launch) is still the best option atm for gamers, because of the decent game library and great online!

Maybe in a few years the ps3 might start challenging the 360 for game library, however in a few years time, we'll be looking at Nintendo and M$'s 8th gen consols, where as Sony, will still be with the ps3, which will look like a child compared to the 2 new consols that will be coming!

Frankly 7th generation, Sony messed it up big time, and were just way to cocky, expecting the PS3 to sale because it was a Sony product! So far it has produced what was promised! The only reason to buy one is for the BR player! However next gen players aren't even that main stream yet, becuase not everyone even has a HDTV! I beleive BR (for gaming) will come alive in 8th gen gaming! When we have machines with Dual core GPU's with 512mb-1gb and RAM of 2gb-4gb! That is when gamign will truely be able to use BR properly! (and also when the read speed get greater aswell)

You got a point, but the PS3 dose have more to it tha BR and the BR factor wil assist sales you cant argue how well unit sales dose fora console look at the WII who's selling improportionately to lite casuals and non gamers their attach rate has to be horrid they don't buy games steadily.....

The 360 despite logic and reason is doing great the WII came from no where and has done greatly but its not great for software so far, the industry has 2 choices moving forward either move to the PS3 or the WII, I just don't see 360 being clung to over the next 3 years there will be a shift it will either be to the WII or the PS3 and with the graphic/power nature of the industry the PS3 is it.

Didnt the ps3 just sell more in japan and others recently leaving only america to clean up when some actual games come out.

Didnt the ps3 sell more in its first year than the 360 did with no competition.

A lot of ps3 AAA titles are coming out in fall, early next year we shall see what happens I think its going to be a slaughter house when games like gow3, gt5, socom, ff, killzone 2, star ocean, re5, jrpgs start coming out to name a few.

Hey i heard recently that GTA doesnt run in full HD on ps3 because of lack of ram, is this true?

If so that goes against what people are saying here about ps3 been more future proof than xbox because of a larger disk copasity.

Wasn't it a programming oversight on Rockstar's part? And isn't it fixed with a downloadable patch?

    16.5.2008 11:44 #16

  • OFI

Yes it's true. PS3 runs at 640p native. Although RAM is not related to disk space if that is what you were trying to say...
To be honest the amount of pop ups i'm getting on the 360 perhaps it would have been an idea to go for 640p on that too.

Anyway regardless this isn't related to the thread much..

meh GOW2 looks no better than GOW and I beat it will be shorter if halo ep 3 is any indication on the trend to sale less for more money.

Looking at HDVD prices and lack of players Nintendo might jump on it since they so love vague formats, MS and SONY need BR to pad sales, they are on the high end of tech/gaming.

looking at the 2 games not on it,its not worth it, if it was not an easy break oven it might be worth fooling with, but don't worry the WII and PS3 are not worth the cost yet either :P.

I wish the 360 would get a BR drive and a overhaul and not change price,I'd pick up an elite then....

As long as microsoft fixes the RROD consoles, I think they are OK. Note i dont own one of the older consoles so I havenot had any RROD though... Regardless people are going to continue to buy the Xbox360 b/c of the best lineup of games currently and knowing microsoft will own up to their warranty with defective consoles. But honestly, do we do anything different in everyday society. I mean when we buy a vehicle not everyone buys the most reliable vehicles. Most of the time we buy what we like and knowing it has a warranty is our security blanket regardless of its reputation. If you own a ford, GMC, Mazda, Chevrolet, you dont have a the best reliability in quality. Lexus has been number one for something like 8 years in a row. Honda and toyota are suppose to be very well built also. But my point is this, people buy dodge and chrysler (Some of the worst quality products made)but they offer a warranty so people feel comfortable with them. Dodge has been plagued with engine and powertrain problems for years and evedently they couldnot fix them and give reliability in those areas like Honda etc.. but they did have enough sense to finally offer a lifetime powertrain warranty and try to give people some sense that we have your back. Give Microsoft some credit, they do fix the consoles and of course they are working on making the consoles more reliable everyday. Note that those consoles only cost a few hundred bucks but those unreliable vehicles will cost you a lot more out of pocket and some headaches yet we still buy them b/c it is what we like. My question to those that constantly complain about the RROD is did you buy the most reliable quality brand lexus or did you buy what appealed to you when you were on that car lot???? Did everyone complain as much when Sony kept having issues with the lasers. I still have my lauch PS2 and a slim but most people eventually had problems with the laser. But you know what, most people bought the ps2 regardless b/c of the library of games. Dont know from my own experience but i have read that the xbox was the better consoles, hardware and reliabiity wise.

Quote:Live blows and should be free, everything else is on PC but for halo ep 3 and lost oddessy.Ok..I going to get straight to the point on this constant comment...
NO ONE PLAYS PC GAMES. LOL straight up man. When people talk about videogames people dont even consider PC b/c it isnot a videogame console. When i say no one plays pc games all you have to do is look at the comparison in statistics when you look at game sales and you can validate that this is not just my opinion. It doesnot matter that PC may have better graphics, control, and be cheaper on the consumers pockets. The numbers say gamers prefer it on a videogaming console. So it doesnot matter what game xbox360 has that PS3 doesnot just b.c it is on PC. We are talking about WII, Xbox360, and PS3. Mass Effect,GOW,Bioshock etc.. are all exclusives to the xbox360 when we are talking in the regards to what actually sells, the VIDEOGAME CONSOLES.............

Also i have no proof but on the GOW2 comment about the game being short, LOL which it really was i was like man its over already, I have read it is 5 times bigger.

Oh almost forgot, Bioshock isnot exclusive anymore. The rumor has been confirmed that PS3 will be getting this great game. The storyline in video games really plays a big part today into the games overall success. Played it all the way through and beat it and i can tell you, it really plays like a legendary "Horror Novel". It is one of the best FPS i have ever played and you PS3 owners should check it out. If you are are a fan of resident evil, its like RE with a new twist. Here is a link so check out the reviews, the scores are some of the highest i had ever seen on any game until GTAIV was released.
