Mozilla tries to set world record with Firefox launch

Mozilla tries to set world record with Firefox launch
After nearly 3 years in development, the much anticipated release of Firefox version 3 should be available on June 17. As part of the launch the Mozilla Foundation has announced that they'll be attempting to set a world record for the most software downloads in a 24 hour period. They're also suggesting that fans of Firefox host parties celebrating the launch.

The good news for Mozilla is that they don't seem to have any competition for the record. According to the FAQ on the website created to promote the launch, "This is the first record attempt of its kind so there is no set number. We'd really like to outdo the number of Firefox 2 downloads on its launch day, which was 1.6 million. Let's shoot for 5 million--the sky is the limit!"

If you'd like a reminder on the release day you can pledge to download and they'll send you an email reminder on the day Firefox 3 launches. You can also look for launch parties at Mozilla Party Central.

Or, if you're like most people, you can just download the software.

Am 100% behind this gimmick! I just hope that FF3 would really show a huge difference to FF2.
    But yea, Firefox rocks!

I been trying the FF3 beta theres not much to write home about its better with memory but not to a great extent you still have to hack the script to put in multi lines of bookmarks in the tool bar all in all Flock is alil better.

I've enjoyed using FireFox, so i pledged to grab the new one when it comes out.

Hopefully it'll hold up with version 2 and improve upon it.

    I'm waiting for this one.

Crossing my fingers that a lot of my favorite add-ons still work. Customization is key, and I really love the fact I could copy my profile folder to each machine I use FF on, rather than download and reconfigure each time I build a new PC or reformat. I can even sync my bookmarks for my USB key portable based version. I know I'll be d/l on release day.

Dose anyone know if FF3 will fix the multi bookmark tool bar lines ?

I see no reason why either wouldn't carry over to the official release.

Have been running the Beta for quite a while now (it downloaded an update not that long ago and now says its not beta?), I can confirm that download resume is in, I frequently close the lid of my laptop sending it into standby without realizing files are still downloading, they resume perfectly fine when i turn it back on.

Agreed. It's MUCH faster, and as long as the memory leaks are gone, I'm happy. Just wish they would make a way to window the tabs within one instance of the application, so I could make comparisons while shopping, etc.
