Nintendo sues Nyko over Nunchuk

Nintendo sues Nyko over Nunchuk
Nintendo has sued the peripherals maker Nyko for allegedly violating Nintendo patents and trademarks pertaining to the Wireless Nunchuk add-on for the Wii-mote.

The complaint, filed in Washington, claims that Nyko's "Kama" controller "wholly appropriates the novel shape, design, overall appearance and even the color and materials used in the Nintendo Nunchuk controller."

Additionally, Nintendo says even the Kama's packaging infringe on trademarks held by Nintendo. The entertainment giant wants monetary damages and the removal of the product from stores.

Im lost as well. IMO seems like Nintendo is being greedy/jealous? Firstly Nintendo gets money from Nyko to make 3rd party stuff but sues them for making it look similar to Nintendo's actual nunchuck? Isnt that how alot of 3rd party controllers look like? Not everybody likes to buy ugly looking 3rd party controllers. I think Nintendo's just jealous that Nyko did a good job with the wireless before Nintendo could and because of that they're afraid that more people will instead purchase the Nyko nunchuck instead of Nintendo's original. Nintendo just wants more money. I'd only buy the original wiimote and buy Nyko's nunchuck, and that is what Nintendo doesnt want. They want you to buy both original wiimote and nunchuck.

Yeah I don't understand how this pounces on copyright violations. Seems like the controller wasn't copied since it isn't 100% exact as the original nunchuck.

If i where nyko i would sue the hell out of nintendo for hurassment

First i don't see how this violates there copyrights the controller is wireless where nintendo's nunchuk isn't the controller contains two lights and a power button which nintendo's doesn;t contain one at all and this device was voted best device at e3 2007 so why didn't nintendo stop them then.

    GO NINTENDO!!!!!!!!!!

I'd be pissed if I accidentally bought a 3rd party thinking it was an original. I have a Nyko sensor bar but that's different. FIND YOUR OWN ORIGINAL IDEA NYKO!!!!!!

    Coat tail-riding bastards!!!!

Probably because the other 3rd party controllers followed the proper procedure and paid their money for the rights to manufacture a controller that so closely resembled the original. Nyko probably assumed since they had rights to make accessories for the Wii that meant they could copy Nintendo's controller design and just make it wireless.
