African narcotics officers now set to go after pirates
President John Agyekum Kufuor of Ghana has announced that in his country, drugs and piracy will be treated the same, with former narcotics officials set to go after counterfeit goods as well.

“This insidious crime of product counterfeiting has become a global phenomenon; it’s no longer the canker of the under-developed or developing world,”
president John Agyekum Kufuor recently said, “The developed world is also battling with counterfeiting products albeit at a scale lower than in our part of the world”.

According to a Ghana News Agency (GNA) report, the Criminal Investigation Department of the police will begin to “handle counterfeiting and piracy crimes as drug trafficking” effective immediately.

There are however, many glaring problems with this latest announcement. Drug trafficking has never been adequately stopped, in any country in the world, and certainly a drug such as heroine or cocaine should be easier to find then a counterfeited software CD intended to look exactly like the original. Narcotics crimes are federal offenses everywhere whereas piracy is not, except in certain circumstances. Another bandage on a cut that will never be closed.

if your in your house backing up your games with the windows covered.. they will probably never say a word to you.. but if you leave the window open and someone breaks in and you call the cops to make a report and you have pirate goods all over the place then your a** should go to jail for leaving things.. out.. or selling them on the corner.. either way is good.

I don't know about Ghana, but in the U.S. the narcotics officers are as dumb as dirt. Somehow, I think it is more important to focus on drug dealers given the effects drugs have on people and their communities. I don't see people setting up "backup houses" where you can pick up movies any time of night. How about rival gangs moving on each others turf looking to slang backup 360 games or DS flashcarts? If I were a drug dealer I would jump for joy at this news because the fight against drugs just got weaker.

Ghana.. home of the internet fraudster.

I can't begin to count how many "dear one" emails my server catches in a week from ip's in Ghana. They have more important things to do first before we in cyberspace give them the time of day thankyou.

    "Dear One,

I'm sorry I never told you but I recently went on a trip to Africa. While here, however, I tried to purchase an M3 cart for my DS, at which point I was put into jail. Please wire me $1000 bail money as soon as possible so I can get out of here!

    Sincerely, Your Nephew

PS: I still have all the cocaine you gave me. They didn't really care."

I heard the news and I wanted to help.

.. I'm setting up a "CD exchange program" so we can make sure that people are at least using clean CD's when and if they chose to copy pirated material.

For only the price of a cup of coffee you can help these children live in a world where the music they listens too, and the movies they watch come from a legitimate corporate machine that is more than happy to take your money on his behalf!
