PSP-3001 coming soon

PSP-3001 coming soon
Last month we reported that rumors were swirling that a new PSP model was already in production. Thanks to a new FCC filing, it appears a new model is coming, dubbed the PSP-3001.

Because all new products must undergo safety and interference testing if they include wireless components, the filing shows that the PSP will somehow be updating the wireless components of the PSP, possibly to 802.11g Wi-Fi from the current 802.11b.

The only diagram, pictured below does not show any of the rumored changes, including a mic, relabeled Home button, or camera. Gamers can expect a thinner model however.

Is this new third-gen PSP already in production and ready for the upcoming holiday season?

It all depends if CFW can be flashed. If not, poor sales will follow.

How can you till from this diagram?

I'd still buy one even if you can't get CFW.

I would think the real reason for this update to the PSP is to make it more hack resistant. There is a motherboard out for the PSP Slim that is so far been resistant to Pandora's Battery, but I don't think Sony is going to wait around for some hacker to figure it out.

Also, if Sony really wanted to impress me with the PSP, they would start bringing more exclusive games like God Of War: Chains Of Olympus or Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and less PS2 cookie cutter games.

I don't care how thin it is. I won't buy another one until it comes with dual joysticks.

I played Crisis Core on a friend's PSP while he was renting it... I can honestly say it was garbage... I didn't think I could be disappointed like that, but then again I played Final Fantasy X-2... and was that God Awful... yes... dear God YES.

I think it's another case of Sony Denial... the PSP is fading... the same way they are still pushing their memory sticks (Notice the only things that use the Memory stick format, are Sony branded items at this rate...) The Memory stick sucks, bad, especially when compared to SD cards (Sony even conceded to the SD Card on the PS3... wonder if they'll add support for SD on the new PSP...) which one would you want? 16GB Max Sony memory stick, or 32GB Max SD card (same price btw... just SD card's you know... bigger.)

either way... if they keep taking the poor selling PSP titles (Silent Hill Origins) and releasing them on PS2... what's the point of having the PSP? I may as well mod my slim PS2 and make it portable for the same money - either way, I Don't think Sony's going to have a whole lot of luck in the mobile gaming console field. It's been Nintendo's racket for years, better hardware competing against it or not, the DS has out sold the PSP in a sort of disgustingly sick way (also the fact the DS has 802.11G speeds and the ability to download demo games from the Wii don't hurt either.)

anyway... the slim down is nice... but I would be more impressed to see them do something really innovative with it... like I don't know, have it connect to the PS3 remotely via WiFi.. like they said it would. Or, better yet, get it to upload the PSP game to the PS3 so you can play that game on the big screen - it can't be that hard to work out...

they should make 2 joysticks but old games can still be played using 1 and also to enlarge capacity of the umd!!!!

then the devs would develop the games for two analog sticks and thus make people that already bought the 2001 and 1001 psps fork out for another incarnation

I don't think the capacity of UMD can be enlarged any bigger than 1.80GB DL. A triple layer would need to be manufactured but that's almost, I believe impossible. A DL Mini-DVD is 2.66 GB, the disc size is larger than a UMD disc if you stacked both discs against each other. In order to increase storage capacity the diameter of the UMD disc would need to be a bit larger but that would only cause havoc among every current PSP owner because the PSP would need to redesigned and send much more on manufacturing costs and for Sony that's out of question. Better compression is the key for the PSP in order to keep up and survive against the DS.

I own a PSP-2001 and I have CFW on it, and I hardly touch the thing!
It's great for road trips and such, it's a great portable device, but the mixture of UMD & Memory Stick Pro Duo has completely killed this portable device.

I hated how Sony really boasted about remote play, and yet, there is barely any support for it.

And WiFi B? Come on, give me at LEAST G.

The Slim does have TV output... for hi def only... with no real hi def picture... but it does work for <strike>DVD's</strike> UMD's in standard def! ...which the PS3 already does. And as for connecting the PSP to the PS3... it's really easy! =D

I mean all you need to do is....

    go to the Network Settings
    Go to "ad-hoc mode"
    Create an SSID
Set an encryption level and password (if you want... why I have no idea... are people going to hack into your PSP's tiny 802.11b wireless card?)
Ensure you set all the IP configuration to DHCP enabled
Run a test... are we done? Not yet!
Then go to the remote play, and THEN you're all set!
don't forget if you want to take HD content from the PS3 to the PSP you're gonna be waiting a while... because for some reason they're using... 802.11...b... why I do not know, G's been proven for years, and is about 5x faster than b... so... yeah I dunno. the iPhone can cram a G device into itself... why not the PSP? (it's got more room and less arrogance than an iPhone.)

On the Wii and DS you need to go to the Nintendo channel, pick what you want to send to the DS, set it to connect to DS, set DS to the easy option on the first menu for download play... and... ...wait for them to easily sync with each other AUTOMATICALLY, download the content, and finish. instantly you have a DS demo from the internet as the Wii toggles - on it's own - from Infrastructure to Ad-hoc mode...

Why so complex Sony? You know both ends of the hardware, you couldn't just add all of that easily into the "Remote Play" function and let the PS3 and PSP automatically do all that?

basically the point is... it seems Sony could have done better with the PSP if they just worked on it a bit more the first time, and spent more time making it an enjoyable user experience - forcing formats on people doesn't always work... and the UMD thing never caught my interest, I own a laptop, It has a DVD player - why would I buy the DVD I own again, when I can rip it onto a memory stick and play it the same way anyway? (probably what really killed "UMD")

Yes, UMD is killing the PSP. If sony would of used flash cards instead of UMD and produced Magic Gate MS larger than 4GB at an affordable price the PSP could have been a powerhouse console, it is but it has limitations as the UMD holds it back. The console version of current games are watered down stripped ports, I've always disliked this fact. The DS in the future through a firmware update will be able to produce full console version of games due to the increasing GB capacity of flash. Flash is currently at 16GB, UMD at 1.80GB. I've always said, its on you to decide whether or not to buy a product you are not pleased with. I hardly use my PSP, I rather get the console version to avoid having to point out elements of a game that were left out. What are we going to do? I love my PSP, I guess were just going to have to live with it.

Yes i think that psp 3001 is real coming!
    here is a new

    Quote:
So, at least it's more or less official. We already told when the 03g appeared on the IPL, as well as it did when 02g appeared and the fresh Slim && Lite came into scene.

Some freshly documents that can be found on the FCC webpage shown that Sony decided to send the final testing units to be tested and approved (as well as all the tech on the US has to be done before coming into market if i'm not wrong); and those documents are available.

This, once again, demonstrates that a newer revision is coming into market, a move that might probably harm some consumers that have just bought his/her first Slim, as well as happened when this one appeared.

Those documents include some graphics, statements, and the proper test reports with the (probably not final) characteristics of this psp3k. Obviously, the first thing anyone might have thought is that "hey, firstly they didn't say anything about it when asked, then they denied it, and now what they should say?" Well, this is the proper enterprise act.

What do you think about all this?

ps. All the data on this post can be totally free obtained under the FCC webpage, therefore we don't take any responsibility We are not hosting any document or stuff that can be compromised with Sony corporation or the FCC rights, just making some news and showing what the users think ;P

Taddy is that not a bit rhetorical, i could have sworn this thread made that point, that a new PSP unit was coming.

Will the PSP - 3001 Model be coming out with TA-088?

    @DXR88

    LMFAO..!

  • DXR88

(@Rogdrik) TA-088 or best known uncrackable as of yet mainboard. Maybe Maybe Not. it will not be the same form factor as the slim TA-088.

take a look at where the WLAN module is at. this leads me to believe that the module is no longer a separate piece. it also leads me to speculate the UMD Door being located behind the D-pad and Analog stick.

i also believe the th XD Cards Will be loaded to the left side of where the WLAN module is.

i also speculate that the button will be flush with the face plate, because of the way the Mainboard will be pushed toward the front faceplate with the other major components directly facing the back plate.

will a new Mainboard be coming i believe so, and it wont be the TA-088. maybe a reversion of TA-088, along the lines of a TA-088/A

i actually want Homebrew to stop for awhile. you see the PSP is a fabulous system, but Developers don't want to get involved with it, the PSP is a Piracy Ravaged system, to many Hardware Sales And no software sales.

also UMD never failed, rather it was a proprietary format for the psp much like how GC made there discs spin backwards.

i think the PSP could have been the NEXT PS1 if it wasn't pirated for so early in its life.
