Sony announces launch of PSP 3000
At the video game convention currently being held in Leipzig, Germany, Sony has announced a new version of its PlayStation Portable handheld games console. The PlayStation Portable 3000 is set to go on sale in Europe and the United States in mid-October. The new PSP brings improved support for Skype, contains a microphone and new screen offering better, tweaked more for improved usage outdoors.

"We believe that this will establish the PSP as a viable communication device," said David Reeves, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, referring to the new microphone which will obviously help with Skype. The PSP 3000 will go on sale for €199, compared to the current slim model which sells for €169.

At the convention, Sony also announced the upcoming release of a new PlayStation 3 (PS3) model that contains a 160GB hard drive, more than twice the capacity that comes with current PS3 models. The new 160GB PS3 will go on sale for €449 in late-October.

Im thinking of buying this, but i guess we should start spreading the word to NOT upgrade any new official firmware if you plan to add cfw to your psp.

In the least the 3000 will feature the currently unhackable ta-088v3 motherboard. There are psp's which pandora does not work on right now, why would you believe Sony would let that slide? It is as plain as day this new psp is Sony's attempt to squash custom firmware.

So long as the battery is the same size and shape, it should be done.

I guess I'll get my hands on another PSP-2000 before they are out of existence.

Good idea locobrown, any psp after the latest madden bundle psp will have the currently untouchable ta-088v3. Haven't read about people in the states having this mobo, but it will be here soon enough.

I just remembered the v2 made it impossible to make a pandora's battery. But if the v3's can't even have CFW installed to them, then I guess it'll be a while before the "PSP-3000" will be hacked.

Exactly. ta-088v2 can use pandora (DC7), but does not have the ability to create a pandora. Ta-088v3 is completely locked up, so who knows how long it will take. Never doubt DA or his team though, they are truly incredible.

I find it really stupid, Sony keeps producing the same things with minor upgrades. More surprisingly they actually succeed in selling more of the same stuff. Pathetic i tell ya!

I just came back from Sears and bought another PSP-2000 black, it has OFW 3.80 to my surprise and extreme rejoice. If anyone is going to get a PSP-2000 do not go to Walmart or Best Buy. The place to get a PSP is Sears. Nobody shops at Sears especially electronics so you know that the PSP's they have in stock are not the new ta-088v3 mobos. Walmart and Best Buy re-stock all the time and most likely the PSP you buy from those stores will feature the new ta-088v3 mobo.

wow..big deal...with slim at least they did make a FEW viable upgrades that make me wanna buy it but comon a microphone and a
"new screen offering better, tweaked more for improved usage outdoors"

honestly thats the stupidest excuse for an upgrade i ever heard from a sony..and they were talks it might at least even hav an antenna and a sim card slot (not that people will use it as their phone of choice but its nice to know its there)

good luck with that and with no moddin opportunity for now they made syre people will kill to get a slim

Do you thing Sony would hire people just to browse these forums to find out the lastest hack on their product?

    23.8.2008 11:57 #16

  • locobrown

Most likely, that's how they discover programming flaws and based on info found within forums across the internet to try to solve such issues. They never learn, the product is only improved but man-made items are meant to be broken its only a matter of time regardless of how much security one my have. There's a small number of decent games that are worth $30-50 bucks and the rest are simply lame. If the PSP came out of the box unlocked at its full potential CFW might not even be needed if they sold iso downloads with a trace ID of games in order to avoid piracy of such downloads. UMD, what can I say? Nothing good.

I agree. Greed plays a big part in all this.
