OiNK uploaders charged with infringement

Almost one year after authorities shut down the private torrent tracker OiNK, the site's administrators and a few alleged uploaders have been charged, putting an end to the year-long investigation.

Alan Ellis, the administrator, was charged with “conspiracy to defraud” and the uploaders were charged with copyright infringement for the unauthorized upload of one CD.



To give some back story on the situation, in addition to the administrator, five men and one woman were arrested for uploading music to OiNK and since their arrest they have been in questioning and required to provide DNA samples. Within two months, two were released from investigation and not charged but it appears the rest are not as lucky. Each was charged with infringement for the unauthorized upload of one CD.

In an interview with TorrentFreak, one of the charged uploaders said he is being made into an example for other uploaders. "I think it’s a sledgehammer to crack a walnut,” he added.

There was no official word from the BPI but we will keep you updated.

  Might sound a bit extreme but it has solved a lot of long standing unsolved rape, murder and serious crimes.

  yep. cause when u upload music, you are worse than a rapist, murderer an crook that steals from churches.

  yep. cause when u upload music, you are worse than a rapist, murderer an crook that steals from churches.Well, it assumes that people who break the law in any way, shape or form are deviants. So when a rape investigation starts, they feel that your DNA should be thrown into the mix. Because people who upload music are put into the "criminal" category.

  Might sound a bit extreme but it has solved a lot of long standing unsolved rape, murder and serious crimes.used to be that way in the UK but for the last few years it doesnt matter if your found innocent or guilty, the DNA still goes into the national database, they are or were even plans to make DNA sampling mandatory in the UK for everyone so they could build a complete database of every man woman and child in the country

  They opened a new DNA testing lab in Runcorn today which cuts the time to test from 5 days to 12 hours....
  
  Solution.. if you commit a burglary or any other crime which may involve leaving dna around just torch the evidence before leaving ;).. or we can burn the testing labs down.

  but the flip side is that a murder is committed and that can you didn't put in the bin, ends up near by, you have no alibi and the police, in their usual attempt to solve crime by any means necessary, which usually means blaming a relation regardless of how thin their circumstantial evidence is, and guess what happens, they fix you for it because YOUR dna was at the crime scene.
  
  just ask the Billie-Jo Jenkins's father, Sion Jenkins how the police have destroyed his life with circumstantial evidence in the need to find anyone to blame.
