Good Old Games store goes public

Good Old Games store goes public
Good Old Games, a European gaming company, announced in July that it will begin allowing gamers to access and download old PC games that are very hard to find legally or have been abandoned.

The company will provide titles from as far back as the early 80's and in a downloadable format that is completely DRM-free. The games will also be reasonably priced, ranging from $5.99 to $9.99 per title. Also, once you have purchased the title, you can download it whenever you want, all the times you want.

The store has now hit its public beta stage.

"You won't find any intrusive copy protection in our games; we hate draconian DRM schemes just as much as you do,"
says the site. "Once you download a game, you can install it on any PC and re-download it whenever you want, as many times as you need, and you can play it without an internet connection."

Looks pretty promising. Hopefully they expand their lineup soon, but there are a few good titles already on there.

I hope this site does well, I have it bookmarked to check back on and pick up a title or two from them if a few of my old favorites are released.

$6-$10 isn't bad at all, especially considering you are not restricted by DRM.

Doesn't www.abandonia.com still exist? Why are we going to pay for games that don't have anybody still around to collect the money for?

oh... just went to abandonia, and they are actually giving props to the gog site. Seems that their take on it is that we'd be paying to know that the games have been updated to work on newer OS's. Kinda makes sense I guess... kinda.... :/

It's quite alright to charge for the games, why should they provide them for free when they put the effort in,tell ya what at least you get something for your money not like paying some kid a $1.00 for pixel on a website..lmao..me wonders if kid blew it all

Edit: not sure how long ago but some fella has a webpage that he charged for every pixel for small adverts or large ones if you could afford it

Never heard of them, but I like their prices! I wonder if their likely slim profit margin is made up for in add on sales?
