iPhone firmware 2.2 jailbroken

In just a few days after Apple has released its iPhone 2.2 firmware update, the iPhone Dev Team team has already jailbroken it.

QuickPWN 2.2, available for free for both Mac and Windows users, will allow iPod Touch and iPhone users to jailbreak their device to the latest firmware, version 2.2.



With each update, Apple fights against jailbreakers, as a way to protect their exclusive contract with AT&T. An unlocked phone can work with any GSM carrier.

Whenever Apple updates the firmware, previous jailbreaks are broken in terms of the App Store, because most applications require the latest firmware to even run.

  ok so basically what your saying camaro is that the QuickPWN team did not jailbreak the new iphone software but the iPhone Dev Team did. and if i get this straight the iPhone Dev Team makes QuickPWN.... Is it just me or does this not make any sense :S

  Ya know, this is exactly whats going to Kill off the Iphone Eventually. Exclusive contract with At&t from a company that sells awsome products! profits would have soared if Apple made it available to EVERYone. True, some people were soo excited to get one, and signed up with AT&T. But with a hole in thier consumer base, they are leaving the door wide open, and the playing field uncovered. What this is doing, is giving a huge amount of room for Companies to make a phone that will surpass, do the same things, or otherwise render obsolete the Iphone. It may hold it's own for a while. But thats alot of consumers left out of the loop here. You can bet phones like the Android, and others are hard at work....trying to give the Rest what they want.
  
  Great plan for the short term...horrible plan for the long term. People dont like, DRM, heavy copyright protection....or having their gadgets controlled like this.
  
  I feel this was and is a bad move.

  Apple is very greedy, which is why they took the money AT&T threw in their face for exclusivity. To me the iPhone would be unstoppable if they had it open to all major carriers. It only makes since, why bog people down to one carrier, unless you're only thinking about yourself and not the choice of the consumer. So I don't reall ever plan on getting an iPhone.

  The problem is that the public is so gullible and prone to the lastest fad.
  The entire Ipuke line, including the touch and the phone is downright insulting to the consumer (as is everything Apple does) and yet there are entire isles in stores and entire sections on webstores devoted to this crapola.
  
  Prediction, next year will be the death of the Ipuke.

  Prediction, next year will be the death of the Ipuke.I highly doubt that the iphone/ipod will be going away any time soon. coming from a Samsung x105 phone>then to the first RAZR phone (back in 2005), then to a Samsung Trace>T-mobile Dash with WM 6.0>6.1 (yes, I did have internet with my Dash), I've had my share of phones over the years.
  
  After ACTUALLY BUYING an iphone, I have to say its the absolute best (and scariest) phone purchase I've ever made.
  
  I'll explain my point of view. I'm a pc guy. Always have been for years, probably always will be. Bought a first gen Ipod Shuffle back in the day as well. Hated itunes. Couldn't STAND the fact that you could ONLY load songs into your device through itunes. I shouldn't HAVE to do that. I should be able to plug it in, access it via mycomputer and drop my files in.
  
  I haven't used itunes since 2005.
  
  After purchasing my iphone I'll say this... Things just WORK. Unlike my T-mobile dash, I don't have to reboot my phone every day. Unlike my dash, I have BETTER than 5 hours battery with use.
  Internet works without issues. IN MY AREA (Tampa Bay) AT&T has better coverage/quality than T-mo.
  Access / Setting up email is easier. Installing apps is WAAAYYY easier on the iphone than most HTC devices. (I can't believe how many hacks I had to go through just to get my dash working with just a few apps)
  
  The delay between screens is very reasonable compared to my dash. (Yes I did even hack my dash to use the HTC version firmware to speed it up, but I just got sick of the spinning pinwheel)
  
  I still don't like itunes, however backing up my iphone and updating it via itunes makes it worth in some respects.
  
  On top of all that, you get a built in Ipod.
  
  I know why Apple is doing as well as they are. They are making items work as EASY as they can while making them functional.
  
  Pastor, I think you're just upset that no other company is 'really' bringing it to apple like apple has to every other company. I remember when Nokia used to be top dog, but now Apple will be. Without Apple bringing out the iphone, I don't believe RIM would have ever released the BlackBerry Storm as early as it has.
  
  My prediction is...
  a) Apple will continue to gain ground in the phone market
  b) The main players will be Samsung, HTC, RIM, and Apple, nokia will cut their losses in the phone market and concentrate on other electronic endevours.
  c) Apple will drop the shuffle from its line, as well as Ipod Classic.
  d) More integration between Apple TV and the Ipod Touch/Iphone line.

  Any one who reads my comments, know I always try to understand the consumer market as a whole. And that whole consists of people thinking the latest "trend is cool". Guy goes to work, sees all his coworkers handling their shiny new Iphone, and decides to be part of the crowd. Again, consumers buy what works. But Consumers also buy whats convieniant. But that's not enough incentive to change carriers for most.

  And then you go on to mention the ease of use, and the superior features. Look, the electronics market is filled with failed superior products...most of which were so ahead of it's time, people didn't apreciate what it was. My Main point is: Ease of use does not compare, or Equal with the "Ease" of using one's own carrier. It was a piss poor decision. And by constantly fighting against consumers (who have already bought their product mind you) to keep Iphones working on At&t and no where else....they are stirring up future consumer backlash.
  
  After looking at your post...I found you have a knack at making reviews, but are dismal at understanding what common consumer knows. Most likely the closest to reviews they have time for is picking up thier local Consumer Report on phones or something. Everybody knows magazines are not reliable. They will tout anything with the most add revenue, and are very biased. And usually they just compare features, like you have done...but say nothing of the drawbacks, and pain that comes along with changing carriers.
  
  As I said, with my Experience being a Retail slave at: Borders bookstore, Circuit City, and Wallmart.... People do not like having thier electronics, cellphones, dvd players, ipods etc. Locked, restricted, or directed.
  
  Being exclusive will only turn the consumers who aren't willing to convert, elsewhere. When enough people switch to something else Example: Android, and other up and coming smart phones.... then the Iphone man (who was cool in the past) will suddenly become the black sheep. It is in apple's best interest to abolish it's agreement with At&t and open it's market.
  
  Period, no exceptions, or replacement theorys will do.

  you make some very valid points and I have to be honest and say that I have never (and will never) give the I-puke a fair shake.
  All of what you say may be true. It may work better, It may be easier, but like the other poster says, big deal! It's still an I-puke and is locked to high heaven.
  
  All of these things were said about the Macintosh when it came out. It's better, looks better, works better and is easier... "It just works..."
  Well, I think Apple has maybe 1% of the PC market right now? Whatever the percentage is, it's laughably small.
  People buy PC's because they are open and will do what WE want, not what they want.
  Look at the backlash towards Vista. A big part of that is the DRM bullcrap. People do NOT want that and as long as there is a viable alternative (linux is not a viable alternative) they will flock there.
  The Google Phone doesn't quite do it. It might, but not quite yet. Far too new. Not enough support. It may be (almost) open, but there is nothing that works on it.
  Give it a year or two and we'll see.

  I wish the guy over at ZiPhone would come out with something for 2.x. I have an unlocked and jailbroken 1.4. But for 2.x, I either need to pay someone to do it or buy a Mac, neither of which I'm doing.
  
  To the guy bashing the iPhone. Agreed, it's not the greatest phone in the world. But with the T-Mobile hack, I get unlimited internet for $5.99 a month. Don't bash something you know nothing about.

  I've had the 3G version since August. I was thinking about Jailbreaking it to load apps that the appstore has rejected (not to pirite apps moderators). I have AT&T so I don't need to unlock its service... but does anyone know if it is worth the effort??
  
  To be honest, it is a HASSLE to have to connect to Itunes to do EVERYTHING with this phone. I feel like Itunes's bitch most of the time. Will Jailbreaking make this process easier? or will it add extra steps to putting things on my phone?
  
  I own a PC not a MAC. So I would like to be able to drag and drop stuff... but I would also like to play video formats that aren't in the .mp4 container. Any help would be appreciated. If this is taking up too much room on the comments section, please feel free to PM me with any helpful info.

  Aside form the Ipuke comment, Most of us feel Apple should open it's doors. We see it as a great product for sure, but at the same same I feel Hacking the Iphone should not be needed. It wouldn't be needed in the first place if it was open to everyone.
  
  So don't get me wrong, I have an Ipod, I love apple for alot of their innovations. And although I use a PC I do see the perks of having an Apple (for certain professional Uses).

  it's easy why iPhone sucks and Apple is retarded, if i'm shelling out 500 bucks for an electronic device, there should be no restrictions on it, i should be able to do what the f*ck i want with it. Too bad the G1 sucks compared to the iPhone, and so do all other phones out there. anyway, i'm not gettin an iPhone until apple stop being such control whores but that's not happening anytime soon, too bad because apple lost my money and many other consumers who feel like i do.

  Thanks.if youre using windows and jailbreak your phone, you can use WinSCP to connect your pc to ur iphone. Getting them to connect to each other for the first time might take some extra steps, but after it will become easier and you'll be allowed to drag and drop stuff. Not sure if you can drag and drop everything but its useful to me.
