PS3 firmware update adds full screen flash viewing

PS3 firmware update adds full screen flash viewing
Eric Lempel, Sony's Director of PlayStation Network Operations, has posted on the official PlayStation 3 blog that the upcoming PS3 firmware update, version 2.53 will bring improvements to the Flash Player via the internet browser.

From the blog:

"Hi everyone, in the next PS3 firmware update (v2.53), coming soon, we’re improving the way the Flash Player works with the internet browser. In addition to being able to access more sites using Flash, you’ll be able to enjoy:

* Full-screen mode playability

Now it’s going to be even easier to enjoy web content on your PS3, in full-screen!"

Although that is the most notable update, gamesareevil says this is the full update list:

    Glad to see the continuous support of an increasing number of codecs & playback options. It's clear that currently, the PS3 is the best choice for people wanting a multimedia console.

    All this is from the 2.50 update, not from 2.53.

    Yeah, this seems like DATED news to me...I already HAVE the update!

    It's nice they got real Flash 9 support instead of the Flash 5/6-compatible GNASH piece of crap that didn't work on most sites. I wish they'd support more QuickTime (and not just generic MPEG-4/H.264) and maybe even RealMedia. At least now I can order (crappy) pizza online using the PS3 browser! ;-)

    Sequential video playback ftw! Finally. Well, if it was already released in 2.5, then I guess I just haven't looked into it yet. Great for those with a large 500GB fat32 external drive large movies split in 4GB chunks!

    Quick question about the updates. I use my PS3 to view videos on youtube because my computer is so old it doesn't do this well. I have had no problems doing this it was really great....until now. Videos that I use to watch, I can no longer see the clip but I can hear the audio. Is this due to a recent update?! Just wanted to know if anyone new. Thanks in advance.

    I've run across a few videos online that only play audio, but not YouTube. If anything, FW 2.50+ should play any Flash-based video BETTER since it's now Flash 9 compatible. Some Flash-heavy sites might cause problems, though...I haven't checked.
