YouTube coming for Wii, PS3

YouTube coming for Wii, PS3
According to a new post on the official blog, YouTube is making its content available on Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii consoles, allowing gamers to watch their favorite videos from their TVs with ease.

The service will come through YouTube TV which is currently in its beta phase but will allow users to customize the content to suit their personal tastes and the TV they are using.

The full post says:

"Have you ever wanted to just sit on your couch and watch YouTube on your TV? Well, now that's possible via YouTube for Television, initially available through the Sony PS3 and Nintendo Wii game consoles at www.youtube.com/tv. Currently in beta, the TV Website offers a dynamic, lean-back, 10-foot television viewing experience through a streamlined interface that enables you to discover, watch and share YouTube videos on any TV screen with just a few quick clicks of your remote control. With enlarged text and simplified navigation, it makes watching YouTube on your TV as easy and intuitive as possible. Optional auto-play capability enables users to view related videos sequentially, emulating a traditional television experience. The TV Website is available internationally across 22 geographies and in over 12 languages.

As previously blogged, YouTube has partnered directly with major TV and set-top box manufacturers to bring YouTube into the living room. Still, very few such devices today contain a Web browser or provide access to YouTube. Our hope is that this site may help to accelerate an industry evolution towards open television access to Web video. Over time, we plan to add support for additional TV devices that provide Web browsers.

So grab some popcorn, gather your friends and sit back and enjoy the YouTube TV Website."

Ummm....you could already do that on the PS3. It was upgraded in the last couple of releases. First a flash update, then full screen YouTube.

you can go there on the wii too but sadly it wouldnt load videos over like 5min they are talking about adding an actual feature which would be cool cause you will always be logged in an bookmark your favorite faceplant compilations :D how much do you think this motivates microsoft to finally release a browser of some sort for the 360

Looks like they have their own conflict of interest between their own appendages. Nothing illegal about it, of course, just business concerns taking precedence over "innovation"...something they like to CLAIM anti-monopoly limits deter.

You said it creaky. I've had Youtube on my XBMC for years. Every Xbox 1 owner who has modded has had Youtube. Not really innovative, since the implementation maybe a copycat from the current script that runs under XBMC. But other than that, good for the Wii and PS3 unless its not a free service.

The wii is just god awful i still dont get how it sells to this day. In 2008 25% of their games had a review of a 4 or lower on a 1-10 scale with the higher the better. Yet people come in here touting the wii is so great and not gimmicky. craziness, so yeh it has youtube functionality woo hoo. Ps3 has the least titles with ratings that low and 360 yet in another spot is in 2nd place.

I agree with you the Wii is shit for hardcore gamers it has diversivied into the family fun market now because they can make more money now thats why its selling so fast I got mine a year or so ago as a Christmas present I played it for a month of two then i noticed there was no good games worth buying......Wish I got an xbox

Yeh i just dont get it, the sales are insane and its funny cause so many people are in a rush to get them and then its the least played console out of the big 3.It has crappy games, controller is not that great and it sucks for games it should rock at i.e mario kart for the wii.Yes youtube would be nice to have but the way i see it is its not fixing the problem that the each individual consoles have. Its sorta like madden every year they implement some new catchy feature instead of fixing the core gameplay.

I hope the Wii hasn't single handedly hurt console gaming in general (I doubt it has, just saying). After the big 4-5 titles which have already been released I haven't even bothered with it. The gimmick & excitement has died down and there is absolutely NOTHING of interest in the near horizon (along with the 360 too) worth "waiting" for...Hell people don't even ask to play when they come over anymore as they feel stupid! And when someone does I let them play for 10 minutes by themselves and they say "That's what all the buzz was about?...It's not even remotely accurate" that's when I say - Exactly.

The only additional reason why it has sold this well is because Nintendo has it's name on it. Because they are not the "innovator" as they proclaim to be here with the Wii. They actually ripped EVERYTHING off of another company's product that never sold so well called the XaviX. I mean EVERYTHING from the idea to how you interact in sports games (golf, boxing, baseball etc. <video>) to the mat and even a fitness game with a celebrity endorsement (Jackie Chan)!

They went to trade shows and just about anything being made by a 3rd party for a competitor that looked promising, they would try buying either exclusivity to the product or buying out the whole company making it...some of which appeared to be to nix the product entirely. They also seem to receive and lose (or setting out of court w/ a licensing agreement) a lot more patent infringement lawsuits than any of the other companies.

Wii games must have incredible replay value, though, for it to be so popular...anyone I know w/ a Wii has had one for about 2 years and only has about 4 games for it (Super Mario Cart, Super Smash Bros Melee, Super Mario Galaxy, BoomBlox and maybe Rayman: Ravin' Rabbids). Maybe they also have a lot of old GC titles too...I don't know. Nintendo artificially creating shortages of the Wii hardware itself was a less than honest marketing ploy too.

Whoa whoa whoa we've slipped into ps3 is greatness territory again. Nintendo and 360 having "nothing" of interest in the horizon but the ps3 is left out of that because let me guess their going to unleash the potential they've been babbling about for the last 2 years right? So i guess its time for the ps3 to start making up that 26 million console deficit to Ninty and 8 million to MS right. 360 never has been "gimmicky' just great games and shady hardware. And ninty did it successfully so it matters not if the other company invented it, and lastly Nintendo selling well cause their name is on it reminds me of some other Consumer giant that does the same cough sony cough. MS probably sells less consoles due to the name on the box and still outsells the ps3. I had to slip into this mode here id rather be blatant about it then sly.Atleast that way i dont isult anyones intellegence

And here sony goes again with saying xbox lacks longevity cause they havent had a console last more than 4-5 years, seeing as how they've only had one previous thats not sayin much. All you hear is that dvd9 cant do it and wont last yet some amazing games have out and done just that i.e bioshock, gta, dead space, gears of war and so forth. Sony is the ones putting their foots in their mouths and living off their fanbase and then people come in and feel bad for them it just doesnt make any sense. The 360 might not make it that far but lets get closer to that time before all the sony boys spread their own version of doom and gllom for MS. People complain sony is getting bashed in the media and MS isnt,sh!t the media need not do it with the ps3 minions out here on the web doing their work for them free of charge!
