New Windows 7 and Vista releases coming next week
Microsoft has confirmed that a new updates for users of the Windows 7 beta is coming next week while also adding that a Release Candidate (RC) for the upcoming Service Pack 2 of Windows Vista is being sent out to a few testers.

Windows 7 manager Brandon LeBlanc noted that on February 24th, five test updates would be released which “will allow us to test and verify our ability to deliver and mange the updating of Windows 7”.



LeBlanc did add however that the new updates would not fix any bugs but instead would simply “replace system files with the same version of the file currently on the system”.

The updates will need to be added manually through Windows Updates.

Vista SP2 RC, build 6002.16670.090130, was recently released to Microsoft Connect testers and should soon find its way to a larger range of beta testers.

When the SP2 eventually hits, it will encompass all previous updates and patches for the OS and will include 691 hotfixes, adds the source.

    I hope the Windows 7 beta updates fixes this crashing on boot problem I have. It's really annoying to start up your computer and get the blue screen and then have it restart and again waiting for it to boot... Waste my time...

    I've been using XP for around 6 years, and I was reluctant to upgrade to the bloated Vista OS, but I'm loving Win7, I think it's great. There are a few minor bugs I have noticed, such as hibernate function re-waking the system, and going back to sleep, and re-waking etc. And the copy function not working 100% of the time.

    It's a shame this release doesn't fix any bugs, what's the real purpose of it?

    I'm an administrator and network engineer with a fair amount of patience and I can honestly say that I have formatted my computers (both home and work) a total of five (5) times to give Vista a try. Once near the beginning of its inception, twice when SP1 came out, once for work computer and finally once a few weeks ago with SP2. I must say that SP2 currently is flawless. Don't listen to anyone saying otherwise.............their computer is in shambles if it's problematic or they're computer illiterates.

    Vista is the worst thing since ME and is frankly a piece of shit. It crashes harder than any other system and causes files to corrupt. It does not work without issue with several games and there are tons of graphics card-related problems for both ATI and NVidia. I truly and emphatically feel sorry for anyone using Vista that is not a computer professional because poor old granny or dumb soccer moms just won't know what to do.

    I am looking forward to 7. My company is a MS Gold Partner (not a big deal as any business can become one) BUT we are one of 60 worldwide companies that are NSIs or National Systems Integrators and we get EVERYTHING Microsoft first and free. 7 is on a few peeps computers and so far so good. Still.............I won't touch it until SP1 comes out for the public release.

    I will only use XP (although bored with it) until this happens.

    I like Windows 7. I took and upgraded my Vista Ultimate. I'm very happy to see a smoother OS (hopefully) for the future. I'll continue to use it until the official release comes out. That will be the true test of times.

    I liked windows 7 as well - much faster and more stable than the Vista Home Premium I have - only problem I had was that it kept killing my internet connection after a few hours use and no amount of diagnostics or uninstalling and reinstalling network card drivers would help - had to stop using it as not being able to connect to internet was a fairly serious problem in my book :P

    My experiences with Vista and Windows7 are both excellent. Yes Vista is video card selective, for a reason, image quality.
    Windows7 installed the easiest of any OS ever. No yellow ! for missing drivers. W7 is excellent for networking. When I added wireless, it took longer for the dvd drive to copy files than for me to have it running. A vast change for the better. I am an OEM builder.

    I happen to love Windows 7 at the moment, and have it installed on one of my laptops to test. Only annoyance has been with video playback: my system locks instantly with any video. The supplied drivers for the Nvidia GeForce 440 Go came straight from Windows Update. Still looking for a solution however...

    As much as I would LIKE to agree with you........and can't help but think that your statement was a seriously head-up-your-??? statement.

Granted.....I will acknowledge the REMOTE possibility that you are employed in a situation that only used Linux/Unix/Macs but I would find that hard to believe. That would mean your entire family uses only those 3 and your friends never hit you up for help on their PCs. C'mon man........that's just a dumb statement.     I concur. I'm not saying EVERYONE has problems but the vast majority do. Besides, your kid is 12 and probably fairly savvy with technology and computers. Maybe not a guru but savvy. Additionally, most 12 year olds don't use their computers to the same extent that others do that are engaging in daily tasks.

    I don't take credit away from your kid. Probably smart as heck and providing adults all the needed guidance regarding comps.

    Besides......not only is a system hog (though not really anymore as I can get it started perfectly using only about 650 MBs RAM) but it has legitimate issue with network connectivity both wireless and wired and especially on a domain when trying to access network resources. It deems certain files "crucial" and locks them down so tight that one has to take complete ownership of all files and eliminate others that have any rights. Aero screws with graphics updates/drivers and cards. Brutal. Vista is the biggest unsuccess story MS ever offered and they should be ashamed for bringing it out.

    An MS rep came to my place of business a few weeks back and I asked him honestly what his opinion is of Vista and what the overall concensus is and he flat out said he "does not like Vista" and the are "many complaints" and that "MS admittedly brought out Vista way too soon to appease the the peeps". I was astonished after hearing that.

    As I figured but the 'remote' part being that in a business environment even MS products are used at the end-user level. Used at home too. It's just impossible to not use MS stuff 100% of the time..........or even 80%. MS is everywhere and as much as I hate the fact that they are.........it's truly an inevitability.

    excuse me.. at work we run solaris, and at home I have NO micro-crap software at all... a M$ free world is not only possible, in business it is far more usual than a person with your head well and truly stuck up your --- could imagine.. ALL the major banks run unix/solaris.. NOT anything from M$.. because it just isn't reliable or stable enough.

    90% of the internet is run on linux or unix.. and by total machine count M$ software probably comes in a poor 4th place... even when you count in all the n00bs desktop machines. Induestral process machines.. traffic lights.. mobile phones.. atm's.. dtv boxes.. they all run linux/unix or solaris.. You hardly ever see M$ rubbish running in a truly professional business environment or on industrial hardware.

    Thise of us who have been in computing when the choice was unix or cbm remember well what happened to cbm with their 90% hare of the home computer market.. they dies because they tried playing like M$.. monopoly and fanboyism.. apple had a huge market share in the early 90's.. they tried the same trick.. only run "approved" applications.. and lost to "free" windows 3.1 ..they have not only never recovered, they seem to have not learned the lesson.

    You want a monopoly? EVERYTHING in the world only running what M$ will allow?.. hahahaha.. you are welcome. ur-loser.. FOSS will always innovate and move forward.. everying M$ sell is obsolete before you get your hands on it.

    The problem with Vista and any other operating system is mostly user error don’t get me wrong I’m not singing Mr Gates praise Vista has many issues but with a bit of patience and a few tweaks it does what’s its suppose to do be over priced though and too many flavors to choice from I mean vista home no different then xp.The amount of folk who’ve asked me for help because they cant get there router working or there printer is printing in black and white “DoH” change the settings if they cant get these simply tasks working how are they suppose to under stand the workings of an operating system until they make a user friendly operating system or one that doesn’t involve any input from the user which is never going to happen forget about touch screen you need to know what to press and what your looking for, the customer support lines will always be busy which I suppose is what they’ve always wanted. The end of the day read a book on the operating system you are using plenty about problem is folk cant even be arsed to do that so get on the phone customer service I'm sure will love to here from you.

Vista in fact has massive incompatibility issues with intense software, graphics, networking, permissions etc. There is no user error when I USE an OS on a basic level. Vista and VISTA ONLY is a problematic OS. If you honestly believe that Vista's errors are mostly user-related then I feel sorry for your family because you're no doubt pushing them into using it. Don't make excuses for that OS. It's a failure admittedly so by even MS and MS reps themselves. Wake up and smell the coffee..............and recognise a bad thing when you see it. How could millions and millions and millions be so wrong? Maybe you're not paying any attention to the tech forums/society/industry. YOU MUST NOT BE.

    I might defend MS and Windows, since I use it on an expert level in my workplace, but I've also come to realize that I won't change other's opinions about Windows; especially Varnull's! (Just because Linux isn't my cup of tea, doesn't mean I "hate" it... I do have a Mac and a Linux box that sit on the floor at my other desk, when I have playtime for those things.)

    Anyhow, Vista IS an ABOMINATION! There I said it. XP is a solid OS, Windows 7 is shaping up nicely (fix that WMP bug please!) however, Vista is the red-headed step child. I've given it chances many times, even as close as 2 weeks ago, and it was still crap like it was before. When I can't unzip archives or transfer files over a network as fast as the PREVIOUS OS, then something is definitely WRONG! (And yes, I'm using the "quicker" SP1.) Combine that with the constant security issues, and it's no wonder IT departments aren't upgrading quickly.

    Heck, at my workplace, I think we have Vista on a total of 6 stand-alone mini PC's that are rigged to 32" displays, and that's only because the network monitoring software required Vista (ouch). So, out of 1300+ systems, 95% are XP, less than 1% are Vista, and the rest are Server 2003 or stragglers that still haven't had their systems updated from Windows 2000!

You might just get out of middle management.You really are a fool.If you had taken the time and took your head out of your arse for a second and read the comment properly,you would have read my thread correctly.I said my daughter "she has no problems and when she does she knows how to reactive the problem" not "she knows how to reactive to the problem".Obviously you don't pay attention that's why you talk such babble.Give us break and stop kidding yourself your not AS you quote "I'm an administrator and network engineer" if you was wouldn't talk such rubbish and would be more educated.Leave it at that now starting to bore me.
